Gyeong-sul (庚戌, 경술) is the day pillar (일주 日柱, ilju) of Gyeong 庚, the Yang Metal Day Master, seated on Sul 戌, the Dog. It is number 47 of the sixty-pillar cycle (육십갑자 六十甲子, yuksip-gapja). Think of a sword hanging in a fortress armoury at the end of autumn. The walls are thick, the harvest is in, and the blade has seen use.

The image

The Dog is dry, warm earth, the last month of autumn and the storehouse of Fire. Earth produces Metal, so the branch supports the stem, but the support comes packed with heat. The hidden stems (지장간 支藏干, jijanggan) are Sin 辛 Yin Metal for 9 days, Jeong 丁 Yin Fire for 3 days and Mu 戊 Yang Earth for 18 days.

Mu (戊), the main hidden stem, is Indirect Resource and gives the branch its Ten God: independent study, unusual skills, a strong private inner life. Sin (辛) is Rob Wealth, the competitive sibling who shares and takes. Jeong (丁) is a small Direct Officer, a pilot light of discipline sealed in the earth.

On the twelve life stages (십이운성 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Gyeong on Sul is at Decline (쇠 衰, soe), the veteran past their peak. Decline describes experience and caution rather than weakness, and the earth keeps Gyeong-sul a solid Day Master. Dry earth, though, can also bury Metal when there is too much of it, so readers check whether Water in the chart is there to clean the blade.

The Void (공망 空亡, gongmang) branches are the Tiger (寅) and the Rabbit (卯). Both are Wood, which is Wealth for Gyeong, and some readers take that as a reminder that money plans need checking twice.

Character

Gyeong-sul carries three named stars, and they pull in recognisably different directions.

Put together, Gyeong-sul often reads as a commanding person who is also more charming than expected. The strengths are courage, loyalty and the ability to take charge in a crisis. The blind spots are combativeness, holding grudges, and a private side that rarely asks for help. None of these stars fixes an outcome.

Relationships

The spouse palace (배우자궁 配偶者宮, baeujagung) holds Indirect Resource, often read as a partner who is capable, protective and somewhat unconventional, or as a home that functions as a base for recovery between battles. Golden Carriage on the day pillar is a traditional plus for marriage, and Red Glamour suggests that attraction comes easily. Goegang adds the classical caution: two strong wills under one roof need clear agreements.

Traditional pairings: the heaven-and-earth combination (천지합 天地合, cheonjihap) partner is Eul-myo (乙卯), and the "heaven strikes, earth clashes" partner (천극지충 天剋地沖, cheongeuk-jichung) is Byeong-jin (丙辰). Both are classical patterns, not predictions.

Work and money

Gyeong-sul suits roles with authority and risk: command positions, law, emergency services, security, high-stakes technical work, turnaround management, and businesses where someone must make the hard call. Indirect Resource favours niche expertise, and Rob Wealth in the branch points to a competitive field.

Money comes through effort and nerve. Rob Wealth means shared ventures can drain funds, and the Wood Void suggests that deals should be verified before money moves. Golden Carriage is traditionally linked with a comfortable standard of living, often supported by family or a partner.

How Gyeong-sul differs from the other Gyeong pillars

Gyeong-jin (庚辰) is its mirror. Both carry Goegang and an Indirect Resource branch, and their branches clash. Gyeong-jin sits in damp earth and grows quietly at Nurture; Gyeong-sul sits in dry earth and has already fought. Compared with Gyeong-o (庚午), whose Direct Officer branch makes it rule-minded, Gyeong-sul keeps its Direct Officer as a minor hidden stem and treats rules as optional. Gyeong-in (庚寅) chases Wealth from a weak base, while Gyeong-sul has backing and finds money comes more slowly. Gyeong-sin (庚申) is stronger in pure Metal but lacks Gyeong-sul's stars and its warmth.

FAQ

Is Goegang on Gyeong-sul a bad sign?

No. Goegang is a traditional marker of strong will and leadership on a few day pillars. Older texts warned about its intensity in relationships; most modern readers treat it as temperament, not misfortune.

What stars does Gyeong-sul carry?

The engine lists three: Goegang, Golden Carriage and Red Glamour. Different schools weigh these stars differently, and many practitioners read them only after the elements and Ten Gods.
