Eul-myo (乙卯) Day Pillar: The Yin Wood Rabbit, Pure Spring Wood
Eul-myo (乙卯, 을묘) is Eul, Yin Wood, sitting on Myo, the Rabbit branch. It is number 52 of the sixty-pillar cycle. Myo is mid-spring, the month when Wood peaks, and its only hidden stems are Wood too. Picture a hillside meadow in April: grass, vines and wildflowers so dense you cannot see the soil. Eul-myo is one of the most single-element pillars in the whole cycle.
The image
The stem and branch are the same element, so the branch holds Friend and Rob Wealth in Ten God (십신 十神, sipsin) terms. The hidden stems (지장간 支藏干, jijanggan) are Gap, Yang Wood, for 10 days as Rob Wealth, and Eul, Yin Wood, for 20 days as Friend, the main stem. There is no other element in the branch at all.
On the twelve life stages (십이운성 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Eul at Myo is in Officialdom (건록 建祿, geollok), the working adult who stands on their own salary. The Day Master is rooted and strong. Because everything in the pillar is Wood, classical readers pay close attention to what the rest of the chart offers: Fire to let the growth show, Earth for something to grow into, and Metal to give it shape.
Character
Eul-myo looks soft and is not. Like grass, these people bend in every wind and come back upright. They avoid open confrontation, prefer charm and persistence, and usually get where they were going by the side path.
Strengths include adaptability, social reach and a sense of beauty. Eul-myo tends to build wide networks of friends, classmates and colleagues, and often knows someone who can help. Many have a good eye for design.
Blind spots come from having so much of one thing. Eul-myo can find it hard to say no to friends, can spread itself across too many people and projects, and may struggle with the discipline that Metal provides. Rob Wealth inside the branch can mean money and credit leaking to peers.
Relationships
The spouse palace (배우자궁 配偶者宮, baeujagung) holds Friend. Traditionally that suggests a partner who feels like a best friend or sibling: similar in values, easy to be with, sometimes too similar. The relationship often thrives on shared interests and social life. The classical warning relates to the hidden Rob Wealth: competition, outside friends drawn into the couple's business, or a partner who feels more like a peer than a spouse. In a man's chart, older texts also note that Friend and Rob Wealth in the palace leave little room for the Wealth (wife) star.
Gyeong-sul (庚戌) is Eul-myo's heaven-and-earth combination (천지합 天地合, cheonjihap): 乙 with 庚, 卯 with 戌. Sin-yu (辛酉) is its heaven-strikes-earth-clashes pillar (천극지충 天剋地沖, cheongeuk-jichung): 辛 cuts 乙 and 酉 clashes 卯. Both are traditional comparison points rather than predictions.
Work and money
Eul-myo does well in people-centred and aesthetic fields: design, horticulture and landscaping, fashion, education, counselling, community work, events, sales built on relationships, and any role that connects many people. It prefers collaboration to hierarchy.
There is no Wealth star in the branch, so money typically comes through networks, partnerships and steady work rather than through the pillar itself. The traditional caution is about joint money: lending to friends, sharing a business without contracts, and splitting costs that were never agreed.
How Eul-myo differs from the other Eul pillars
Eul-myo is the strongest of the six Eul Yin Wood pillars and the least mixed.
- Eul-yu (乙酉), its opposite branch, is the reverse: Seven Killings and Severance, a flower on a blade.
- Eul-hae (乙亥) is fed by Water as Direct Resource; it receives where Eul-myo spreads.
- Eul-chuk (乙丑) and Eul-mi (乙未) sit on Earth with Indirect Wealth, so both are more material and more grounded.
- Eul-sa (乙巳) burns its Wood as Hurting Officer in Bathing, much more outward than Eul-myo.
Eul-myo comes after Gap-in (甲寅) and before Byeong-jin (丙辰). Its branch is described on the Rabbit page.
Eul-myo in 2026–2030
| Year | Stem / branch Ten Gods | Relation to Eul-myo |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Byeong-o (丙午) | Hurting Officer / Eating God | none |
| 2027 Jeong-mi (丁未) | Eating God / Indirect Wealth | none |
| 2028 Mu-sin (戊申) | Direct Wealth / Direct Officer | none |
| 2029 Gi-yu (己酉) | Indirect Wealth / Seven Killings | branch clash |
| 2030 Gyeong-sul (庚戌) | Direct Officer / Direct Wealth | branch harmony and stem combination |
The first two years let all that Wood flow into Fire, good for showing work. 2028 adds structure and income. 2029 is the turbulent one: the Rooster clashes the Rabbit day branch under Seven Killings, so relationships and routines are tested. 2030 is the reverse, Eul-myo's own heaven-and-earth combination pillar arriving as the year, traditionally favourable for commitments and partnerships. The Void (공망 空亡, gongmang) branches are Ja (Rat) and Chuk (Ox), absent from this stretch. Check your own chart with the day pillar calculator.
FAQ
Is Eul-myo a strong day pillar?
Yes. Eul is in Officialdom at Myo and the branch contains only Wood, so the Day Master is well rooted. The question for this pillar is usually what the extra Wood is used for.
Who is compatible with Eul-myo?
Gyeong-sul (庚戌) forms the traditional heaven-and-earth combination with Eul-myo, and Dog in a partner's day branch combines with Rabbit. Full compatibility needs both complete charts.
What does 乙卯 mean in Saju?
乙卯 is Yin Wood over the Rabbit, the peak month of spring. It is pillar 52 of the sixty and is read as a dense meadow of pure, resilient Wood.
Hidden stems in the branch
The Rabbit branch carries these stems inside it (지장간). Read from the Eul Day Master, each takes a Ten God role.
| Hidden stem | Element | Share of the month | Ten God |
|---|---|---|---|
| 甲 Gap | Yang Wood | 10 days | Rob Wealth |
| 乙 Eul | Yin Wood | 20 days | Friend |
