Golden Carriage (금여) in Saju: Comfort, Grace and Partnership

The Golden Carriage (금여 金輿 geumyeo) is a noble star associated with comfort, refinement and a supportive marriage or partnership. It is found from your Day Master and falls on a branch two steps after the Day Master's Officialdom branch. Traditionally it was read as especially favorable in a woman's chart, a view many modern readers now apply to anyone.

What it means

金輿 is the gilded carriage reserved for nobility. The image is of being carried in comfort, and classical texts tie the star to a gracious manner, good taste and a spouse who brings security. Old manuals also say a man with the Golden Carriage in the day branch marries well, and a woman with it enjoys an honored position.

A modern reading drops the assumption that comfort must come through marriage. It suggests an ease with beauty and quality, a calm presence, and a tendency to form partnerships of any kind that make life smoother. It does not predict wealth or marital happiness on its own, and readers are careful not to treat it as a verdict on relationships.

How it is found

Find the Day Master's Officialdom branch, the life stage where it works at full strength, then count two branches forward. The branch you land on is the Golden Carriage, and the star is present wherever it appears among your four branches.

Worked example: a Gap Yang Wood Day Master reaches Officialdom in In 寅 (Tiger). Two branches on are Myo 卯 and then Jin 辰, so the Golden Carriage branch is Jin 辰 (Dragon). A Gap person whose day branch is Jin, as in the Gap-jin day pillar, carries the star in the spouse position. Other examples from the table: Gyeong 庚 takes Sul 戌 (Dog), Im 壬 takes Chuk 丑 (Ox), and Gye 癸 takes In 寅 (Tiger).

Mu 戊 and Gi 己 follow Byeong 丙 and Jeong 丁, which is the convention of placing Earth's stages with Fire, so Mu shares the Goat with Byeong and Gi shares the Monkey with Jeong.

How it shows up in a reading

The day branch is the classic placement, because it is the spouse palace (배우자궁 baeujagung) in Korean Saju. There the Golden Carriage is read as a partner who adds stability or refinement to your life. In the hour pillar it is linked to comfortable later years; in the month pillar, to a pleasant working environment; in the year pillar, to a comfortable background.

Clashes temper it. Jin 辰 clashed by Sul 戌, for example, is read as comfort that has to be rebuilt after changes. A combination with a neighboring branch can bind the star in place, which readers describe either as stability or as being tied to circumstances, depending on what the combination produces.

Since relationship questions are read mainly through the Ten Gods, especially the Wealth stars for men and the Officer stars for women in traditional practice, the Golden Carriage is a supporting detail. Related stars include Hidden Pay, which also derives from the Officialdom branch, and Red Glamour for charm. Check your branches with the free day pillar calculator and see more in the glossary.
