Byeong-sul (丙戌) puts Byeong, Yang Fire, over Sul, the Earth Dog. It is the 23rd pair in the sixty-day cycle (육십갑자 六十甲子, yuksip gapja), coming after Eul-yu (乙酉) and before Jeong-hae (丁亥). The image is a sunset over dry autumn hills: the sun is going down, but the stones and fields have soaked up the day's heat and will give it off long after dark. 戌 is the evening hour of the Dog, when people bank the fire and lock the gate.

Fire produces Earth, so the Day Master (일간 日干, ilgan) flows into its branch. 戌 is dry earth and, in classical theory, the storehouse of Fire. The hidden stems (지장간 支藏干, jijanggan) are Sin (辛) Yin Metal for 9 days, Jeong (丁) Yin Fire for 3 days and Mu (戊) Yang Earth for 18 days. From Byeong, Sin is the Direct Wealth, Jeong is Rob Wealth and Mu is the Eating God. Mu is the main stem, so the branch reads as Eating God.

The Sin inside 戌 is worth noticing. 丙 and 辛 form a stem combination, so the Day Master quietly bonds with the Direct Wealth hidden in its own seat. Readers describe this as an attachment to what the person has earned and stored, whether money, possessions or memories.

On the twelve life stages (십이운성 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Byeong at 戌 is at Tomb (묘 墓, myo). Schools frame this differently: some stress the ending, others call 戌 a storehouse (고 庫, go) where Fire is kept safe. Either way, the sun is not at full strength here. Fire is held in reserve, which suits patience and long projects more than sprints.

Character

Byeong-sul people tend to be loyal, protective and more serious than their friendly surface suggests. They remember favours and slights, and they often carry a strong sense of right and wrong.

The pillar carries the White Tiger star (백호살 白虎煞), a traditional marker of intensity and sudden, forceful events. Modern readers mostly translate it into personality: a strong will, a capacity for blunt action in emergencies, and the need to handle tools, vehicles and tempers with care.

Blind spots: holding on too long to grudges, old plans or possessions, and a stubborn streak once they have decided. The Tomb stage can show as reluctance to start over even when a restart would help.

Relationships

The day branch is the spouse palace (배우자궁 配偶者宮, baeujagung). The Eating God there is traditionally read as a caring, easy partner and a home organised around food, comfort and family routines. Because Direct Wealth is hidden in the same branch and combines with the Day Master, some texts say Byeong-sul men are especially attached to their spouse and household. The White Tiger is the counterweight: arguments can flare fast, so cooling-off habits help.

Traditional notes: Sin-myo (辛卯) is the harmony pillar, since 丙 and 辛 combine and 戌 and 卯 combine, called 천지합 (天地合, cheonjihap). Im-jin (壬辰) is the clash pillar, with 壬 controlling 丙 and 辰 clashing 戌, called 천극지충 (天剋地沖, cheongeuk jichung).

Work and money

The Eating God over stored Wealth favours work that builds slowly and keeps value: property, archives and collections, restaurants with regulars, crafts, security and protective services, operations roles that keep an organisation running. Savings tend to accumulate quietly; the risk is keeping something out of loyalty after it stops paying.

How Byeong-sul differs from the other Byeong pillars

The two Void branches (공망 空亡, gongmang) are O 午 Horse and Mi 未 Goat; see Void. The stem is covered on the Byeong Day Master page and the branch on the Dog page. To check your own pillar, use the day pillar calculator.

FAQ

What does the Tomb stage mean for Byeong-sul?

Tomb (墓) is the twelve-stage position where a stem's energy is stored rather than active. For Byeong at 戌 it suggests reserve, patience and holding on, and some schools prefer to call it a storehouse.

Is the White Tiger star in Byeong-sul dangerous?

Traditional texts tie the White Tiger to forceful, sudden events, but modern readers treat it as intensity of character. It is one factor among many and does not predict any specific event.

What Ten God is in the Byeong-sul spouse palace?

The Eating God, from the main hidden stem Mu (戊), with Direct Wealth and Rob Wealth as smaller hidden stems. It suggests a comfortable, caring home life.
