Gyeong-o (庚午, 경오) is the day pillar (일주 日柱, ilju) where Gyeong 庚, the Yang Metal Day Master, sits on O 午, the Horse. It is the seventh pillar of the sixty-pillar cycle (육십갑자 六十甲子, yuksip-gapja). The image is raw iron laid in a blacksmith's forge at noon. The fire is fierce and the metal glows, softens, and takes a shape it could never reach on its own. Gyeong-o is the pillar of metal that is being made into something.

The image

Fire controls Metal, so the branch works on the stem rather than supporting it. In Ten God terms, what controls the Day Master is its Officer, the star of rules, duty and recognition. The Horse's hidden stems (지장간 支藏干, jijanggan) spell this out: Byeong 丙 Yang Fire for 10 days, Gi 己 Yin Earth for 9 days and Jeong 丁 Yin Fire for 11 days.

Jeong (丁), the main hidden stem, makes the branch a Direct Officer: the controlled, refining flame of a forge as opposed to a wildfire. Byeong (丙) adds Seven Killings, the harsher pressure. Between them sits Gi (己) as Direct Resource, and that small piece of Earth matters. Classical readers describe a flow called "Officer produces Resource" (관인상생 官印相生, gwanin-sangsaeng): pressure turns into learning and status instead of damage, because Fire feeds Earth and Earth feeds Metal.

On the twelve life stages (십이운성 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Gyeong on O is at Bathing (목욕 沐浴, mogyok), the infant being washed. Bathing is exposed, attractive and unsettled. Gyeong-o is not a stage of full strength, so the Day Master depends on the Gi Earth inside the branch and on support elsewhere to hold its shape in the heat.

The Void (공망 空亡, gongmang) branches are the Dog (戌) and the Pig (亥).

Character

Gyeong-o tends to be the most polished and socially aware of the Gyeong pillars. The bluntness of Yang Metal is still there, but it has been through the fire and comes out as a sense of duty and a concern with doing things correctly. Many Gyeong-o people care about reputation, keep their word and prefer clear rules to improvised ones.

Bathing adds charm and a visible style. People with this pillar often dress well, speak well and are noticed. The blind spots are sensitivity to criticism, a tendency to overwork for approval, and stress when authority is unfair. The Seven Killings in the branch means pressure is part of the furniture, and they do best when they choose which fires to stand in.

Relationships

The day branch is the spouse palace (배우자궁 配偶者宮, baeujagung). With Direct Officer here, traditional readers in women's charts see the husband star sitting in its own palace, a classic sign of a respectable, responsible partner. For anyone, the reading is that Gyeong-o values commitment, formal steps and a partner who brings order and standing. The caution is the hidden Seven Killings next to the Officer: a relationship can feel like one more set of expectations to meet.

Traditional pairings: the heaven-and-earth combination (천지합 天地合, cheonjihap) is Eul-mi (乙未), and the "heaven strikes, earth clashes" partner (천극지충 天剋地沖, cheongeuk-jichung) is Byeong-ja (丙子). These describe classical attraction and friction patterns, not outcomes.

Work and money

Officer stars favour organisations: civil service, the military, law enforcement, compliance, management in large companies, medicine, or any field with ranks and licences. Gyeong-o often climbs well because it accepts structure and wants the title that proves the work was done.

Money usually follows position. A steady salary, promotions and benefits suit this pillar better than speculative income, and there is no Wealth star in the branch to pull it toward trading. Gyeong-o's financial risk is spending on image, the Bathing stage's appetite for presentation.

How Gyeong-o differs from the other Gyeong pillars

Each Gyeong pillar meets Fire differently. Gyeong-ja (庚子) sits on the Rat, the branch that clashes the Horse, and its Hurting Officer branch questions the very authority Gyeong-o serves. Gyeong-in (庚寅) has Fire only as a hidden seed beneath Indirect Wealth and puts opportunity ahead of procedure. Gyeong-sin (庚申) has no Officer in its branch at all; it answers to itself. Gyeong-sul (庚戌) holds a little Direct Officer inside a Goegang pillar, which makes it combative where Gyeong-o is careful.

FAQ

Why is Gyeong-o linked with careers in organisations?

Its branch carries Direct Officer and Seven Killings, the Ten Gods of rules, rank and pressure. Traditional readers therefore see Gyeong-o as suited to structured work where responsibility is recognised.

Does Fire under Metal make Gyeong-o weak?

Fire controls Metal and the stem sits at Bathing, so Gyeong-o on its own is not strong. The hidden Gi Earth turns some of that pressure into support, and the rest of the chart decides the final balance.
