Byeong-jin (丙辰): Sun Through Spring Mist on the Earth Dragon
Byeong-jin (丙辰) sets Byeong, Yang Fire, over Jin, the Earth Dragon. It is the 53rd pair in the sixty-day cycle (육십갑자 六十甲子, yuksip gapja), after Eul-myo (乙卯) and before Jeong-sa (丁巳). The picture is a late-spring morning over a river delta: the sun is well up, but mist still lies on the wet fields, and its light goes into the soil, raising crops rather than glare. Byeong-jin is a sun that works.
The image
Fire produces Earth, so the stem pours itself into the branch. That makes the branch a channel for output rather than a source of support. 辰 is a damp, water-holding earth, and classical writers say it "veils" Fire (회화 晦火, hoehwa): the light softens and turns into growth.
The hidden stems (지장간 支藏干, jijanggan) of 辰 show three layers. Eul (乙) Yin Wood for 9 days is the Direct Resource, a small store of support and learning. Gye (癸) Yin Water for 3 days is the Direct Officer, a thin line of duty. Mu (戊) Yang Earth for 18 days is the main stem and the Eating God, so the branch reads as Eating God: enjoyment, craft, generosity and the steady production of good things.
On the twelve life stages (십이운성 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Byeong at 辰 is in Cap & Sash (관대 冠帶, gwandae), the stage of a young adult putting on the clothes of public life. Strength is growing and self-image is forming. It is not yet the peak, and the heavy Earth drains Fire, so most readers want some Wood in the chart to keep the sun fed.
Character
Byeong-jin people are often warm in an unhurried, practical way. They like to make, cook, teach, host and fix, and they tend to show care by producing something useful. Where some Byeong pillars want an audience, this one wants results it can hand over.
The Cap & Sash stage adds a concern with presentation: how they dress, how their work looks, whether they are taken seriously. That is a strength in client-facing work and a weak point when criticism touches their pride.
Blind spots include over-giving, since the Eating God drains the Day Master, and a tendency to stay comfortable once a routine works.
Relationships
The day branch is the spouse palace (배우자궁 配偶者宮, baeujagung), and here it holds the Eating God. Traditionally this points to an easygoing domestic life, a partner who is good company, and a home where food, comfort and humour matter. In a woman's chart the Eating God is also the classical star of children, so some texts link Byeong-jin to a household centred on them. The caution is complacency: an easy relationship still needs attention.
Traditional notes: Sin-yu (辛酉) is the harmony pillar, with 丙 combining with 辛 and 辰 with 酉, the pairing called 천지합 (天地合, cheonjihap). Im-sul (壬戌) is the clash pillar, with 壬 controlling 丙 and 戌 clashing 辰, called 천극지충 (天剋地沖, cheongeuk jichung).
Work and money
The Eating God likes careers that turn skill into a product: food and hospitality, education, design, agriculture, content production, healthcare roles with direct patient contact. Byeong-jin also tends to suit managing teams who make things, because people like working with them. Money arrives through steady output more than windfalls. The Direct Officer hidden in the branch hints that a modest, reliable title often comes along with the work.
How Byeong-jin differs from the other Byeong pillars
- Byeong-sul (丙戌) also sits on Earth with an Eating God branch, but 戌 is dry autumn earth and Fire's tomb. Byeong-jin's earth is wet and growing, and the sun is still climbing at Cap & Sash.
- Byeong-in (丙寅) receives from its branch; Byeong-jin gives to it.
- Byeong-ja (丙子) sits on the Direct Officer and is defined by role. Byeong-jin is defined by output.
- Byeong-o (丙午) burns at full Emperor strength. Byeong-jin's heat is gentler and spent on others.
Byeong-jin in 2026–2030
- 2026, Byeong-o (丙午): a Friend stem and Rob Wealth branch. Extra Fire strengthens a pillar that is usually drained, which helps energy and confidence, though shared money needs boundaries.
- 2027, Jeong-mi (丁未): Rob Wealth stem, Hurting Officer branch. Creative output turns bolder and more outspoken.
- 2028, Mu-sin (戊申): Eating God stem, Indirect Wealth branch. The pillar's own theme doubled, with a commercial edge.
- 2029, Gi-yu (己酉): Hurting Officer stem, Direct Wealth branch, and 酉 forms a branch harmony with the day branch 辰. A traditionally favourable year for partnership and stable income.
- 2030, Gyeong-sul (庚戌): Indirect Wealth stem, Eating God branch, and 戌 clashes 辰. Change in home, routine or partnership, alongside new money opportunities.
The Void branches (공망 空亡, gongmang) for Byeong-jin are Ja 子 Rat and Chuk 丑 Ox, explained under Void. For the stem in general, see the Byeong Day Master; for the branch, the Dragon. Your own pillar is in the day pillar calculator.
