Your birth details

Pick a city from the list. We correct for daylight saving, longitude and the equation of time before casting the hour pillar.

With a birth time, a birth place is needed: the hour and day are corrected to true local solar time, which depends on longitude and the local daylight-saving history. Why this matters.

How this calculator works

It casts your chart with the same engine as Orienteller's readings. The year and month pillars change at the solar terms (절기), so the Saju year begins at Ipchun (입춘, around February 4), not on January 1 or Lunar New Year. The day and hour pillars use true local solar time when you give a birth place. There is no AI in this step: it is calendar arithmetic, and two people born at the same moment and place get the same result.

FAQ

What is a Day Pillar in Saju?

It is the pair of characters for the day you were born: a Heavenly Stem over an Earthly Branch, one of sixty combinations. Its stem is your Day Master, the character that represents you in the chart.

Do I need my birth time?

No. Without a time you still get the year, month and day pillars, which is enough to know your Day Pillar and Day Master. The hour pillar needs both the time and the birth place.

Why does my Saju year differ from my Chinese zodiac year?

Saju changes year at Ipchun, the start-of-spring solar term around February 4, not on Lunar New Year. People born in January or early February often belong to the previous Saju year.

Is my birth data saved?

No. The calculator computes the chart for this one page view and keeps nothing. Saving a chart requires an account and a reading.
