Sin-hae (辛亥, 신해) is the day pillar (일주 日柱, ilju) of Sin 辛, the Yin Metal Day Master, standing on Hae 亥, the Pig. It is number 48 in the sixty-pillar cycle (육십갑자 六十甲子, yuksip-gapja). The Pig is the water of early winter, broad and moving. Picture a handful of silver jewellery rinsed in a cold river: the grime runs off, and the metal comes up bright. Classical texts say exactly this about Sin, that it likes Im water to "wash" it (도세 淘洗, doseo), and Sin-hae is the pillar where that happens at home.

The image

Metal produces Water, so the stem feeds its branch. The hidden stems (지장간 支藏干, jijanggan) of Hae are Mu 戊 Yang Earth for 7 days, Gap 甲 Yang Wood for 7 days and Im 壬 Yang Water for 16 days.

Im (壬), the main hidden stem, is Sin's Hurting Officer, so the branch reads as Hurting Officer: articulate, inventive output that tests rules. Gap (甲) is Direct Wealth, and the flow is clean: Metal produces Water, Water produces Wood, so talent leads naturally to income. Mu (戊) is Direct Resource, a small portion of Earth that steadies the stem. That makes Hae one of the more complete branches a Sin Day Master can sit on: support, output and reward all present.

On the twelve life stages (십이운성 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Sin on Hae is at Bathing (목욕 沐浴, mogyok) in the reversed Yin-stem sequence, the infant being washed. The stage and the image agree. Bathing is fresh, attractive and a little exposed; the Day Master is not strong on this branch and spends energy freely.

The Void (공망 空亡, gongmang) branches are the Tiger (寅) and the Rabbit (卯).

Sin-hae also carries the Golden Carriage star (금여 金輿, geumyeo), traditionally linked with refinement, comfort and support from a partner or family.

Character

Sin-hae is clever, expressive and quick to notice what could be better. People with this pillar often speak well, write well, and have a distinctive taste in clothes, design, music or ideas. Hurting Officer under fine Metal gives a sensitive, perceptive critic rather than a blunt one: the comment is precise and often witty.

Their strengths are originality, articulacy and the ability to make complicated things look clean. They tend to be generous with ideas. The blind spots are restlessness, a low tolerance for dull authority, and emotional ups and downs that come from a Day Master spending more than it stores. Left idle, washed silver tarnishes into worry.

Relationships

The spouse palace (배우자궁 配偶者宮, baeujagung) holds the Hurting Officer. Traditional rules for women's charts read this as friction with the husband star, since Hurting Officer attacks Direct Officer. A more useful general reading is that Sin-hae wants a partner who enjoys conversation, accepts frank feedback and leaves room for creativity. Golden Carriage softens the classical picture and is traditionally a good sign for the home. Direct Wealth also hidden in the branch suggests practical partnership, especially in a man's chart where Wealth stands for the wife.

Traditional pairings: the heaven-and-earth combination (천지합 天地合, cheonjihap) is Byeong-in (丙寅), and the "heaven strikes, earth clashes" partner (천극지충 天剋地沖, cheongeuk-jichung) is Jeong-sa (丁巳). These are classical notes rather than predictions.

Work and money

Sin-hae suits creative and analytical work where expression is the product: writing, translation, media, design, music, product management, teaching languages, marketing, consulting, research communication. Hurting Officer leading to Direct Wealth suggests money that follows public skill and reputation, and often more than one income stream.

The risks are inconsistent effort and spending as fast as earning. Because the Day Master is not strong on this branch, Sin-hae benefits from routines and from people who handle the parts of a business it finds tedious.

How Sin-hae differs from the other Sin pillars

Sin-hae and Sin-sa (辛巳) clash by branch and sit on opposite sides of authority: Sin-sa is bound to its Direct Officer, Sin-hae questions it. Sin-yu (辛酉) stands at Officialdom on pure Metal and keeps its thoughts tightly edited, while Sin-hae lets them flow. Sin-myo (辛卯) also deals in Wealth but trades directly, whereas Sin-hae earns through talent. Sin-chuk (辛丑) has a cold Water seed inside a storehouse, quiet output held in reserve; Sin-hae's water is a river.

Compared with its Yang Metal cousin Gyeong-ja (庚子), which also pours Metal into Water, Sin-hae is more aesthetic and less combative.

FAQ

Why do texts say Sin likes to be washed by water?

Classical texts describe Yin Metal as a jewel that shines when Im water rinses it. Sin-hae has Im as the main hidden stem of its own branch, so it is often given as the clearest example of that idea.

Is Hurting Officer in the spouse palace a problem?

Older texts flagged it, especially in women's charts, because Hurting Officer opposes the husband star. Modern readers usually treat it as a need for honest, lively communication with a partner.
