Gi-hae (己亥) Day Pillar: Yin Earth Pig and River Delta Soil
Gi-hae (己亥) is the 36th pillar of the sixty-pair cycle, with Gi (己) Yin Earth sitting on Hae (亥), the Water branch of the Pig at the start of winter. Think of the soft, rich soil of a river delta: deposited by water, shaped by it, and among the most productive farmland there is when someone manages the floods. Gi-hae is practical ground that lives in close contact with money and movement.
The image
Earth controls Water, so for Gi the Water of Hae counts as Wealth. The main hidden stem (지장간, 支藏干, jijanggan) is Im (壬) Yang Water, 16 days, which is Direct Wealth (정재, 正財, jeongjae): earned income, steady assets, careful management. That is the branch's Ten God.
The two shorter stems make Hae a busier branch than it first looks:
- Mu (戊) Yang Earth, 7 days: Rob Wealth, a sibling Earth that both helps hold the riverbank and competes for the harvest.
- Gap (甲) Yang Wood, 7 days: Direct Officer (정관, 正官, jeonggwan), order, status and responsibility. Gap also combines with Gi in the classical 甲己 pair, so the Day Master feels a natural pull toward structure and commitment.
Wealth plus Officer inside the spouse palace is the classical picture of a settled, responsible adult life.
On the twelve life stages (십이운성, 十二運星, sibi-unseong), the engine puts Gi at Conception (태, 胎, tae) on Hae, using the Fire track for Earth with reverse counting for yin stems. Conception is a seed state: potential rather than force. Schools that skip yin-stem stages would frame it differently, but element-wise the conclusion is similar. Soil sitting in water needs Fire and Earth elsewhere in the chart to stay firm.
Character
Gi-hae people tend to be grounded, considerate and good with practical life. They usually notice what things cost and what people need, and prefer quiet competence to drama. Where some Earth pillars hold a position, Gi-hae adapts: delta soil changes shape with every season and keeps producing.
That adaptability is both gift and risk. Gi-hae is easy to work with and often well liked, but it can be carried along by circumstances, by a strong partner, a demanding job or a family's plans, longer than it should. With little support on its own seat, saying no takes deliberate effort.
Strengths often seen here: dependability with money and schedules, kindness without fuss, a feel for what will actually work. Blind spots: over-commitment, worry about security, and letting others set direction because it keeps the peace.
Relationships
The spouse palace (배우자궁, 配偶者宮, baeujagung) holds Direct Wealth. Traditionally, for a man that is the wife star sitting in its own home; for anyone it suggests a partner who is practical, loyal and focused on building a stable life. Gi-hae tends to value domestic security and shared plans. The hidden Direct Officer adds respect for commitment, and the hidden Rob Wealth is the classical reminder to keep money arrangements with in-laws and friends clear.
Classical compatibility: Gap-in (甲寅) is the heaven-and-earth combination (천지합, 天地合, cheonji-hap), with 己 combining 甲 and 亥 combining 寅. Eul-sa (乙巳) is the heaven-strikes-earth-clashes pillar (천극지충, 天剋地沖, cheongeuk-jichung). Use these as background vocabulary, not predictions. Gi-hae's Void branches (공망, 空亡, gongmang) are Jin (辰) Dragon and Sa (巳) Snake; see Void.
Work and money
This is the most money-oriented of the six Gi pillars. Accounting, banking, property, retail, procurement, administration, hospitality and family business suit Direct Wealth, and the hidden Officer adds comfort inside organisations with clear ranks.
Money is earned steadily rather than speculatively. Because the Day Master sits at Conception, the practical advice is not to own more than you can manage: fewer, well-tended assets, and help from partners or systems for the rest.
How Gi-hae differs from the other Gi pillars
- Gi-sa (己巳) is the branch-clash opposite: Fire Resource at Emperor, strong and studious, where Gi-hae is lighter, practical and Wealth-focused.
- Gi-chuk (己丑) also contains Water but as stored Indirect Wealth inside its own Earth; Gi-hae sits directly in the water.
- Gi-myo (己卯) sits on Officer pressure, while in Gi-hae the Officer is a minor, supportive stem.
- Gi-mi (己未) is the dry field that lacks exactly the Water Gi-hae has in abundance.
In the cycle it comes after Mu-sul (戊戌) and before Gyeong-ja (庚子). See Gi Yin Earth for the stem and the Pig page for the branch.
Gi-hae in 2026–2030
None of these five annual branches clashes, combines with or repeats the Pig, so the years work mainly through their Ten Gods.
2026 Byeong-o (丙午), Direct Resource over Indirect Resource, and 2027 Jeong-mi (丁未), Indirect Resource over Friend, bring Fire and Earth to wet soil: a firmer footing, support from mentors and family, and good conditions for study. 2028 Mu-sin (戊申) is Rob Wealth over Hurting Officer, so expect competition for money and a more outspoken mood. 2029 Gi-yu (己酉) is Friend over Eating God, sociable and productive. 2030 Gyeong-sul (庚戌) is Hurting Officer over Rob Wealth, ambitious and argumentative; contracts and shared money deserve extra care.

FAQ
What does the Gi-hae (己亥) day pillar mean?
It is Yin Earth over the Water Pig, the 36th pillar of the sixty-pair cycle. It is read as practical and adaptable, with Direct Wealth in the spouse palace.
Does Gi-hae carry any special stars?
The engine lists no named stars for Gi-hae on its own. Its reading rests on the Wealth and Officer stems hidden in the Pig.
Who is Gi-hae's traditional combination partner?
Gap-in (甲寅) forms the heaven-and-earth combination, and Eul-sa (乙巳) is the heaven-strikes-earth-clashes pillar. Both are classical notes on chemistry only.
Hidden stems in the branch
The Pig branch carries these stems inside it (지장간). Read from the Gi Day Master, each takes a Ten God role.
| Hidden stem | Element | Share of the month | Ten God |
|---|---|---|---|
| 戊 Mu | Yang Earth | 7 days | Rob Wealth |
| 甲 Gap | Yang Wood | 7 days | Direct Officer |
| 壬 Im | Yang Water | 16 days | Direct Wealth |
