Jeong-myo (丁卯) sets Jeong, Yin Fire, over Myo, the Wood Rabbit. It is the fourth pair in the sixty-day cycle (육십갑자 六十甲子, yuksip gapja), following Byeong-in (丙寅) and preceding Mu-jin (戊辰). Imagine a reading lamp in a garden pavilion on an April evening, surrounded by new leaves and blossom. The flame is small and calm. Everything around it is green, soft and still damp, and the lamp is there for reading, not for show.

The image

Wood produces Fire, so the branch feeds the stem: this is a Resource seat. The hidden stems (지장간 支藏干, jijanggan) of 卯 are Gap (甲) Yang Wood for 10 days and Eul (乙) Yin Wood for 20 days. From a Jeong Day Master (일간 日干, ilgan), Gap is the Direct Resource and Eul is the Indirect Resource. Eul is the main stem, so the branch counts as Indirect Resource. Nothing else is in the branch: no output, no wealth, no officer. It is pure support and pure learning.

There is a classical nuance. Gap is the seasoned log that keeps a candle burning, but Eul is fresh grass and flowers, and spring Wood is wet. Old texts note that wet Wood feeds Fire slowly and with some smoke. In character terms, the support is real but it comes as ideas, impressions and feelings more than as solid fuel.

On the twelve life stages (십이운성 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Jeong at 卯 is in Sickness (병 病, byeong), a term for low stage energy, not health. That sounds odd for a branch made entirely of Resource, and schools disagree: those using the reversed Yin cycle give Sickness, while schools that read Yin Fire on the Yang cycle would call 卯 Bathing. Most practical readers simply note that the flame is well fed but has no Fire root of its own here.

Character

Jeong-myo people tend to be gentle, observant and inward. They absorb atmosphere, read between lines, and often have an artistic or scholarly streak. Many are drawn to languages, literature or psychology.

The Indirect Resource gives them an unusual way of knowing: intuition, sudden insight, a taste for the unconventional. It also brings a familiar blind spot. With so much intake and no output in the branch, they can think, plan and research for a long time before acting, and may feel misunderstood when others see only the hesitation.

They are also sensitive to their surroundings. A harsh workplace or noisy home wears on them in a way others might not notice.

Relationships

The day branch is the spouse palace (배우자궁 配偶者宮, baeujagung). Resource there traditionally describes a partner who looks after, teaches or protects, often someone the person can lean on. Because Resource is also the mother star, older texts link this pillar to close family ties around the marriage, sometimes a strong influence from a parent. The healthy version is mutual care; the strained version is a partner who becomes more guardian than equal.

Traditional notes: Im-sul (壬戌) is the harmony pillar, with 丁 and 壬 combining and 卯 and 戌 combining, the pairing called 천지합 (天地合, cheonjihap). Gye-yu (癸酉) is the clash pillar, with 癸 controlling 丁 and 酉 clashing 卯, called 천극지충 (天剋地沖, cheongeuk jichung).

Work and money

Resource-heavy pillars suit roles where knowledge is the product: research, writing, editing, teaching, counselling, design, library and archive work, alternative or traditional medicine study. Wealth is absent from the branch, so money usually follows qualifications or a reliable employer; learning to price their own expertise is the practical step many need.

How Jeong-myo differs from the other Jeong pillars

Jeong-myo in 2026–2030

Jeong-myo's Void branches (공망 空亡, gongmang) are Sul 戌 Dog and Hae 亥 Pig; see Void. The Jeong Day Master and Rabbit pages describe each half, and the day pillar calculator finds yours.

FAQ

What makes Jeong-myo different from other Fire day pillars?

Its branch contains only Wood, so the Day Master sits entirely on Resource. That points to a learning-centred, intuitive character with little built-in drive toward money or output.

Is the Sickness stage for Jeong-myo a health warning?

No. Sickness is a twelve-stage label for how much root a stem has on a branch, and schools even disagree on which stage Jeong takes at 卯.

What happens for Jeong-myo in 2029?

The Gi-yu (己酉) year brings a branch clash between 酉 and the 卯 day branch. Traditionally that marks change around home, partnership or plans rather than a specific event.

Hidden stems in the branch

The Rabbit branch carries these stems inside it (지장간). Read from the Jeong Day Master, each takes a Ten God role.
