Gi-sa (己巳) is the 6th pillar of the sixty-pair cycle. Gi (己) Yin Earth sits on Sa (巳), the Fire branch of the Snake, as early summer begins. The picture is clay in a potter's yard warming under the May sun, or a kiln slowly firing soft earth into something durable. Of all six Gi pillars, this is the one most generously fed by its own seat.

The image

Fire produces Earth, so the branch nourishes the stem. For Gi, Fire is Resource: support, learning, protection and inner security. Sa's main hidden stem (지장간, 支藏干, jijanggan) is Byeong (丙) Yang Fire for 16 days, which is Direct Resource (정인, 正印, jeongin), and that is the branch's Ten God.

Two short hidden stems add texture:

On the twelve life stages (십이운성, 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Gi on Sa is at Emperor (제왕, 帝旺, jewang) in Orienteller's engine, which follows the Fire track for Earth and counts yin stems in reverse. Emperor is the peak of a stem's power. Readers who do not use reverse stages for yin stems would place Gi elsewhere, but almost every school agrees that Earth on a Fire branch is well supported.

Character

Gi-sa people tend to be warm, studious and self-assured in a soft-spoken way. Resource in the day branch often shows up as a love of learning, a strong moral or intellectual framework, and a feeling of being backed up, by family, faith, training or simply confidence in what they know.

The hidden Hurting Officer is what keeps Gi-sa from being merely gentle. Under the calm surface sits a critic who notices flaws in arguments and systems, and who can say so with surprising precision. Gi-sa is often the quiet person in a meeting who asks the one question nobody can answer.

Blind spots particular to this pillar:

Because Gi-sa is already strong, classical readers usually want to see Metal, Water or Wood elsewhere in the chart to give it outlet, wealth or direction.

Relationships

The spouse palace (배우자궁, 配偶者宮, baeujagung) holds Direct Resource. Traditionally that suggests a partner who supports and nurtures, who brings stability, knowledge or family backing, and a relationship that feels like shelter. A traditional caution is that Resource in the spouse palace can tip into a parent-child dynamic, or bring a parent closely into the marriage.

The classical heaven-and-earth combination pillar (천지합, 天地合, cheonji-hap) is Gap-sin (甲申): 己 combines with 甲, and 巳 combines with 申. The heaven-strikes-earth-clashes pillar (천극지충, 天剋地沖, cheongeuk-jichung) is Eul-hae (乙亥), where Water puts out the Snake's fire. These are notes on chemistry rather than forecasts. The Void branches (공망, 空亡, gongmang) are Sul (戌) Dog and Hae (亥) Pig.

Work and money

Resource-led pillars thrive where knowledge, trust and credentials are the product: teaching, academia, counselling, healthcare, publishing, research, law and religious or cultural institutions. The hidden Hurting Officer adds editing, critique, consulting and analysis.

Money is not in the branch, and Rob Wealth sits inside it, so Gi-sa earns through expertise and reputation more than through trading. Shared funds with siblings or close friends deserve clear terms.

How Gi-sa differs from the other Gi pillars

It sits between Mu-jin (戊辰) and Gyeong-o (庚午) in the cycle. See Gi Yin Earth and the Snake page.

Gi-sa in 2026–2030

2026 Byeong-o (丙午) brings Direct Resource over Indirect Resource, and 2027 Jeong-mi (丁未) Indirect Resource over Friend. For an already warm pillar, two Fire years can mean too much of a good thing: plenty of support and study, but a need to act on it.

2028 Mu-sin (戊申) gives Rob Wealth over Hurting Officer, and the Monkey forms a branch harmony with the Snake in the spouse palace. Traditionally that favours partnerships, contracts and new bonds, with lively debate. 2029 Gi-yu (己酉) is Friend over Eating God, relaxed and productive. 2030 Gyeong-sul (庚戌) is Hurting Officer over Rob Wealth, a year for bold proposals and careful wording.

FAQ

What is the Gi-sa (己巳) day pillar?

It is Yin Earth over the Fire Snake, the 6th pillar of the sixty-pair cycle. It is read as warm, studious and well supported, with Direct Resource in the spouse palace.

Is Gi-sa a strong pillar?

On its own seat, yes: Gi is at the Emperor stage and fed by Fire. Whether the whole chart is strong still depends on the month branch and other pillars.

Which year brings a harmony to Gi-sa?

2028, Mu-sin (戊申). The Monkey branch forms a six-harmony with the Snake, which is traditionally read as favourable for partnership.
