Eul-mi (乙未) Day Pillar Meaning: Yin Wood Goat on Dry Summer Ground
Eul-mi (乙未, 을미) is the day pillar of Eul, Yin Wood, over Mi, the Goat branch. It is number 32 of the sixty, the pillar right after Gap-o. Mi is late summer, hot and dry Earth after the peak of Fire. Think of wild thyme on a sun-baked hillside where goats graze: low, tough, aromatic, rooted in thin soil, and able to grow back after being nibbled to the stem.
The image
Wood controls Earth, so Mi is the Day Master's Wealth. Its main hidden stem (지장간 支藏干, jijanggan) is Gi, Yin Earth, for 18 days, read as Indirect Wealth in Ten God (십신 十神, sipsin) terms. The other two are Jeong, Yin Fire, for 9 days as Eating God, and Eul, Yin Wood, for 3 days as Friend.
That small Eul is a real root, the plant's own kind buried in the soil, which gives Eul-mi more staying power than a dry branch suggests. The Jeong Fire turns Wood toward gentle output and then feeds the Earth, so the branch runs from self to skill to money.
On the twelve life stages (십이운성 十二運星, sibi-unseong), Eul at Mi is in Nurture (양 養, yang) under the standard reverse count for Yin stems. Nurture is the stage of being carried and fed before birth: protected, gathering strength, not yet exposed. Some schools count Yin stems forward and would differ, so treat the stage as one clue among several. The Day Master here is moderate rather than strong, and the hot ground makes Water in the wider chart especially welcome.
Character
Eul-mi people tend to be self-sufficient and quietly capable. They often learn to look after themselves early and develop practical skills that let them live on little. The Eating God gives them a warm, homely side: cooking, crafts, hosting, looking after others in concrete ways.
The pillar carries the White Tiger (백호 白虎, baekho). Older manuals read it as a sign of sudden, forceful events; modern practitioners usually describe a hidden intensity. Eul-mi can seem mild and then show striking determination, even fierceness, when something it cares about is threatened.
Blind spots: stubbornness, a dry, guarded manner with strangers, and a habit of doing everything alone rather than asking. Indirect Wealth can make them restless about money, and the White Tiger intensity can come out as sudden decisions made after long silence.
Relationships
The spouse palace (배우자궁 配偶者宮, baeujagung) holds Indirect Wealth. Traditionally that suggests a capable, resourceful partner and a relationship that runs on practical cooperation: managing a home, a business or family finances together. In a man's chart Wealth is the classical wife star. Eul-mi is caring in deeds more than words, and partners may need to read the meals and the fixed shelves as affection.
Gyeong-o (庚午) is Eul-mi's heaven-and-earth combination (천지합 天地合, cheonjihap): 乙 with 庚, 未 with 午. Sin-chuk (辛丑) is its heaven-strikes-earth-clashes pillar (천극지충 天剋地沖, cheongeuk-jichung): 辛 cuts 乙 and 丑 clashes 未. These are traditional reference points only.
Work and money
Eul-mi suits hands-on, service and craft work: food and hospitality, horticulture, care work, crafts, retail, real estate, small business ownership and teaching practical skills. The Eating God-to-Wealth chain means turning a skill into a product comes naturally.
Money often arrives in uneven amounts, as Indirect Wealth suggests, and Eul-mi is resourceful in lean periods. The traditional caution is over-reliance on one's own effort: hiring help or delegating can raise income more than working longer.
How Eul-mi differs from the other Eul pillars
- Eul-chuk (乙丑) is its opposite branch and shares Gi Earth as Indirect Wealth, but Chuk is frozen with hidden Water and Metal. Eul-chuk conserves; Eul-mi produces.
- Eul-sa (乙巳) also involves Fire, as the main Hurting Officer, so it is louder and more public.
- Eul-myo (乙卯) is all Wood and Officialdom; Eul-mi has only a 3-day Wood root and more material focus.
- Eul-hae (乙亥) is fed by Water as Direct Resource, the moisture Eul-mi lacks.
All six belong to the Eul Yin Wood Day Master. Eul-mi sits between Gap-o (甲午) and Byeong-sin (丙申) in the cycle, and the branch animal is on the Goat page.
Eul-mi in 2026–2030
The next two years land directly on Eul-mi's branch. 2026, Byeong-o (丙午), is Hurting Officer over Eating God, and the Horse forms a branch harmony with the Goat, warm, productive and good for alliances. 2027, Jeong-mi (丁未), is Eating God over Indirect Wealth on the same Goat branch as the day pillar, doubling the dry heat: plenty of work and income, and a reminder to rest.
2028, Mu-sin (戊申), sets Direct Wealth over Direct Officer, favouring steady roles. 2029, Gi-yu (己酉), sets Indirect Wealth over Seven Killings, larger opportunities under pressure. 2030, Gyeong-sul (庚戌), places Direct Officer over Direct Wealth, and the Gyeong stem combines with Eul.
Eul-mi's Void (공망 空亡, gongmang) branches are Jin (Dragon) and Sa (Snake), and none of these years falls on them. For the whole picture, try the day pillar calculator.
FAQ
Is Eul-mi a White Tiger pillar?
Yes. Eul-mi is one of the seven traditional White Tiger (baekho) day pillars. Modern readers usually take it as a sign of hidden intensity and determination.
Is Eul-mi a strong day pillar?
Moderately. Eul is in Nurture at Mi and the branch is dry Earth, but a small Eul root inside Mi gives the Day Master more staying power than it first appears.
What does 乙未 mean in Saju?
乙未 is Yin Wood over the Goat, a hot late-summer Earth branch. It is pillar 32 of the sixty and pictures tough, low growth on a sun-baked hill.
