Mu (戊) and Gyeong (庚) Compatibility in Korean Saju: Ore in the Mountain
Mu (戊) and Gyeong (庚) are a mountain and the ore buried in it. Mu produces Gyeong in the generating cycle, so Mu tends to give and Gyeong tends to draw strength from Mu. Both are Yang stems, and the bond between them is sturdy, practical and plain-spoken.
The elemental dynamic
The relation is Earth produces Metal: metal forms inside the earth and is mined from it. Mu is the source, Gyeong the product. Both stems are Yang, so the polarity is the same, which gives the pair a direct, unfussy style.
Miners know the image and its catch. A mountain is where the ore comes from, but ore left too deep stays useless. Classical texts describe this as "Earth so heavy the Metal is buried" (土多金埋). In a relationship that might look like Mu's protectiveness, or sheer weight of routine, holding Gyeong back from the action it craves. In the other direction, Gyeong drawing on Mu without giving back can leave Mu feeling quarried.
How each sees the other
Mu sees Gyeong as Eating God (식신 食神, siksin). Gyeong sees Mu as Indirect Resource (편인 偏印, pyeonin).
Eating God is the comfortable output star: creativity, enjoyment, generosity that comes naturally. Mu, often reserved, may find itself more relaxed and more productive around Gyeong. For a woman, tradition treats output stars as the children star, so a female Mu may feel a protective, nurturing tone toward Gyeong. For anyone, the neutral reading is ease: Gyeong is someone Mu enjoys doing things for.
Indirect Resource is unconventional support: the mentor with unusual methods, help that arrives from an odd angle, sometimes a sense of being shielded more than taught. To Gyeong, Mu is a backer and a safe base, if not always the most conventional one.
Teachers often mention the classical tension between these two stars: Indirect Resource can "steal the food" of Eating God. Here it might surface as Gyeong's occasional moodiness or ingratitude deflating Mu's easy generosity. See Eating God and Indirect Resource.
Combination or clash
Mu and Gyeong form no stem combination (천간합 天干合, cheongan-hap) and no stem clash (천간충 天干沖, cheongan-chung). Gyeong combines with Eul and clashes with Gap; Mu combines with Gye and does not appear in the four stem clashes. The link between Mu and Gyeong is the generating cycle, and it runs one way.
In love
A Mu and Gyeong couple often looks like a solid team on a long trek. Mu packs the supplies and keeps the pace; Gyeong cuts the path and makes the decisions at forks. Both are direct and both dislike games. Friction tends to arise when Gyeong wants to move fast and Mu wants to wait, or when Gyeong's blunt words meet Mu's long memory.
At work
Mu as the institution and Gyeong as its sharp instrument: a founder and a hard-driving operations lead, a firm and its litigator. Mu provides backing and resources; Gyeong delivers results. Mu should check it is not quietly holding Gyeong back out of caution.
Making it work
- Mu: dig the ore out. Give Gyeong room and real responsibility.
- Gyeong: acknowledge the support behind your wins, out loud.
- Agree on pace for big decisions before they come up.
This is one layer of a reading. In Korean 궁합 (宮合, gunghap), readers compare both whole charts: day branches (the spouse palace), element balance and luck pillars. See Mu Yang Earth and Gyeong Yang Metal, other pairs on the compatibility index, or your own Day Master in the day pillar calculator.
FAQ
Does Mu support Gyeong?
Yes. Earth produces Metal, so Gyeong sees Mu as Indirect Resource, an unconventional source of backing. Mu sees Gyeong as Eating God, an easy outlet for its energy.
What does "Earth burying Metal" mean?
It is a classical warning that too much Earth can smother the Metal it produces. In a pairing it suggests Mu's caution or protectiveness can hold Gyeong back.
Do Mu and Gyeong clash?
No. They form neither a stem clash nor a stem combination. Gyeong's clash partner is Gap.
