Mu (戊) and Gi (己) are both Earth: the mountain and the cultivated field below it. They share values and pace, and they tend to trust each other quickly. Each also sees the other as Rob Wealth, so cooperation and quiet competition sit side by side.

The elemental dynamic

The relation is same element. The polarity differs: Mu is Yang Earth, high and fixed; Gi is Yin Earth, low, soft and productive. Same element with opposite polarity gives a pairing that is familiar but not identical.

The landscape image shows how they fit. Mountains shelter valleys from wind and feed them with runoff; valleys are where things actually grow. Mu protects, Gi produces. The arrangement works well until both want the same thing at the same time, such as the same resource, the same credit or the same final word. Then two kinds of Earth find out that they are also competing for the same ground.

How each sees the other

Mu sees Gi as Rob Wealth (겁재 劫財, geopjae), and Gi sees Mu as Rob Wealth. It is the same-element, opposite-polarity peer star, in both directions.

Rob Wealth classically stands for siblings of the opposite polarity, close rivals and partners in shared resources. Its name reflects that it can take a share of your Wealth. In traditional readings it is not a spouse star: the wife star for a man is Direct Wealth, and the husband star for a woman is Direct Officer or Seven Killings. Older manuals also note that strong Rob Wealth between partners can bring money disputes.

The neutral reading is friendlier. Rob Wealth is the peer who pushes you, keeps pace, and is willing to pool resources toward a bigger goal. Two Earth people sharing that energy can build a lot. See the Rob Wealth page.

Combination or clash

There is no stem combination (천간합 天干合, cheongan-hap) and no stem clash (천간충 天干沖, cheongan-chung) between 戊 and 己. Mu combines with Gye and Gi with Gap, and neither Earth stem appears in the four classical stem clashes. Mu and Gi are linked by shared element and rivalry.

In love

A Mu and Gi couple often builds slowly and solidly: a home, savings, a routine both trust. Mu tends to set the frame and protect it; Gi tends to fill it with care, food and practical warmth. Points of friction usually involve money (who controls it, who spends it) and whose way of doing things becomes the household way. Spoken agreements help more than hopeful assumptions.

At work

As business partners, Mu and Gi suit property, food, logistics, administration: fields where steadiness pays off. Mu holds strategy and reputation; Gi handles operations and people. Write the equity split down early. Rob Wealth energy is easy when the numbers are clear and corrosive when they are not.

Making it work

Day Master compatibility is one layer only. Korean 궁합 (宮合, gunghap) compares both complete charts: day branches (the spouse palace), element balance and the luck pillars each person is moving through. See Mu Yang Earth and Gi Yin Earth, the compatibility index, and the day pillar calculator.
