Gyeong (庚) and Gye (癸) Saju Compatibility: Cold Iron and Night Dew
Gyeong (庚, Yang Metal) and Gye (癸, Yin Water) relate the way a cold iron gate relates to the dew that gathers on it overnight. Gyeong produces and supports Gye, Gye leans on Gyeong for steadiness, and the closeness brings out Gyeong's most outspoken side.
The elemental dynamic
Metal produces Water (금생수, 金生水). Moisture condenses on cool metal: that is the most literal version of the image, and a useful one. Gyeong is heavy, firm and direct. Gye is fine rain, mist and dew, perceptive and quietly persistent. Gyeong is Yang and Gye is Yin, so the polarities are opposite, which in Ten God terms gives the refined, direct roles on the receiving side and the sharp, expressive role on the giving side.
The dew image carries a mild caution. Metal that stays wet for a long time rusts. If Gye relies on Gyeong without ever giving warmth back, Gyeong can slowly wear down. Classical seasonal texts make a similar point: Metal and Water together need some Fire nearby to keep from turning cold and stagnant.
How each sees the other
- Gyeong sees Gye as Hurting Officer (상관, 傷官, sanggwan). Hurting Officer is the brilliant, critical, rule-testing output star. Gyeong is already blunt; around Gye it may become quicker, wittier and also more cutting. Gye often hears what Gyeong really thinks about the world.
- Gye sees Gyeong as Direct Resource (정인, 正印, jeongin). Direct Resource is protection, learning, patience and acceptance. Gye experiences Gyeong as solid backing: someone who will stand between it and trouble.
The gendered tradition calls Direct Resource the mother star for everyone, so Gye may feel almost parented by Gyeong. For a woman, Hurting Officer is one of the child stars and has a reputation for challenging the husband star, so a Gyeong woman may treat Gye with a fierce, opinionated protectiveness. Read neutrally: Gyeong speaks and acts through Gye; Gye takes shelter in Gyeong. See Hurting Officer and Direct Resource.
Combination or clash
Neither applies. Gyeong combines (합, 合, hap) with Eul, and Gye combines with Mu, so there is no stem combination between them. The clash (충, 沖, chung) pairs are 甲庚, 乙辛, 丙壬, 丁癸: Gyeong clashes with Gap and Gye with Jeong, and neither with the other. The pairing has no fated attraction and no built-in opposition, just the generating flow from Metal to Water. It tends to feel dependable more than dramatic.
In love
Gyeong offers loyalty, protection and decisiveness. Gye offers sensitivity, insight and a gentle way of noticing what Gyeong misses. The risk is tone. Gyeong's Hurting Officer side can turn into sharp remarks that Gye absorbs silently, then remembers for a long time. Gye, for its part, may let Gyeong carry every practical burden.
At work
A mentor and a gifted junior, a litigator and a researcher, a director and a scriptwriter. Gyeong protects Gye's work and argues for it in public; Gye supplies the insight Gyeong presents. Gyeong should be careful that critique in private stays constructive.
Making it work
- Gyeong: say the useful half of the criticism and leave out the rest.
- Gye: give warmth back in visible ways so the support does not feel one-sided.
- Both: keep some Fire in the routine, warm places and warm people.

Gyeong is Metal, Metal produces Water, and Gye has the opposite polarity. That combination is Hurting Officer in Ten God terms.
