Hidden Pay (암록 暗祿 amnok) is a noble star associated with support that arrives quietly: income from an unexpected source, a favor returned, or resources that appear just when they are needed. It is found from your Day Master and depends on a simple branch combination. Readers think of it as a background safety net rather than a headline star.

What it means

祿 rok is the old word for an official's salary, and in Saju it names the branch where the Day Master is at full working strength, the Officialdom stage. 暗 means hidden or in the dark. Hidden Pay is therefore "salary from behind the scenes": the branch that secretly combines with your Officialdom branch and so connects to your livelihood without being obvious.

Classical notes say a person with Hidden Pay is helped by others without asking, has a generous nature and rarely faces total shortage. A modern reading keeps the idea of informal support networks: side income, help from people you once helped, or a talent for finding resources others overlook. It says nothing about the size of anyone's income.

How it is found

First find the Day Master's Officialdom branch, then take the branch that forms a six-harmony (육합 六合 yukhap) with it. That partner branch is the Hidden Pay branch, and the star is present wherever it appears among your four branches.

Worked example: a Gap Yang Wood Day Master is at Officialdom in In 寅 (Tiger). In 寅 combines with Hae 亥 (Pig), so Gap's Hidden Pay branch is Hae 亥. Another: a Gyeong 庚 Day Master is at Officialdom in Sin 申 (Monkey), which combines with Sa 巳 (Snake), so Gyeong's Hidden Pay is Sa. A Gye 癸 Day Master, at Officialdom in Ja 子, has Hidden Pay in Chuk 丑 (Ox).

Because the rule is derived rather than memorized, it is one of the more consistent tables across schools.

How it shows up in a reading

Placement shapes where the support is said to come from:

Readers then check whether the combination can actually work. Since Hidden Pay depends on a harmony, a clash on the Hidden Pay branch (for example Hae 亥 clashed by Sa 巳) is read as the hidden help being disrupted or arriving late. If the Hidden Pay branch also holds a helpful Ten God, such as a Resource star for a weak Day Master, it is read as genuinely useful rather than decorative.

Hidden Pay pairs naturally with two related stars. The Golden Carriage also derives from the Officialdom branch, and the Heavenly Noble describes help from people more broadly. None of them replaces a reading of the Wealth stars, which carry the main story about money. To see your own branches, use the free day pillar calculator; for every term, see the Saju glossary.

FAQ

Does 암록 mean I will get rich?

No. It traditionally describes quiet support and resources arriving when needed. Wealth questions are read mainly from the Wealth stars and overall balance.

Why is it called "hidden"?

Because the branch is not your Officialdom branch itself but its secret harmony partner. The support it represents is indirect.

Can Hidden Pay come from a luck pillar?

Yes. When a 10-year or annual pillar brings your Hidden Pay branch, readers describe that period as one where help or income appears from unexpected places.
