Born 29 minutes before midnight: we gave the engine his eight characters and no name

辛巳 戊戌 壬辰 壬子 · Pablo Picasso (1881–1973)

We put this chart into Orienteller's in-depth reading engine. We gave it no name, no year of birth and no place of birth. Eight characters and the five-element counts were all it had. Below, the text it produced sits side by side with his life as the record documents it. Where it missed badly, we say so too.

01How this reading was produced

When a Saju reading seems accurate, there are usually two possible reasons. Either it really was accurate, or the reader already knew the answer. Unless the second possibility is ruled out, any comparison that follows means nothing. So we state the conditions of generation first.

Before generating, we searched all 8 prompts for 1881, Málaga, Malaga, 말라가, Picasso, 피카소, Ruiz, Madrid, 마드리드, Cubism, 큐비즘, Guernica and 게르니카, and confirmed there was not a single hit. That is why the reading describes its Luck Pillars by age only, with no years. We added the years afterwards.

The engine did not know he was a painter either. So the text still recommends Korean licensing tracks such as tax accountant and certified public accountant, and it diagnoses a chart in which expression gets blocked. Both are listed in section 04 as misses.

To be clear, this is a post-hoc comparison. We already know his life, and we picked the passages that fit it. It is not a prediction. Section 05 below says more about this limit.

02Birth time correction

In 1881 Málaga had no standard time. Spain made Greenwich Mean Time its legal time on 1 January 1901; before that, each town kept its own local mean time. So the "a quarter past eleven at night" on the birth certificate is not Madrid time. It is Málaga's clock.

Taking Europe/Madrid straight from the time zone database gives Madrid's local mean time for 1881 (3.7° W). Málaga, at 4.42° W, ran about 3 minutes behind it. This time the gap changes nothing, but as with Einstein's Ulm, a zone name does not stand in for the clock of the birthplace.

The corrected 23:31 lies inside 子時 (23:00 to 01:00). The margin to the 亥時 boundary at 23:00 is 31.0 minutes, and the margin to midnight, where the calendar date changes, is 29.0 minutes. The hour pillar is 壬子 whichever way you count.

The day pillar is the issue. For a birth between 23:00 and midnight, the day pillar depends on where you put the change of day. This engine follows the late Rat hour (夜子時) convention: it keeps the calendar day's pillar until midnight and takes only the hour stem from the next day. That is why the day pillar is 壬辰. Under the early Rat hour (朝子時) convention, where the day changes at 23:00, the day pillar would be the next day's 癸巳, and the Day Master would shift from Yang Water 壬 to Yin Water 癸. Every word of the reading below assumes the 壬辰 day pillar. The uncorrected 23:15 is also 子時, so this fork comes from the choice of school, not from the time correction.

03The full reading

Below is the text Orienteller's in-depth reading actually produced for this chart, translated from the Korean original. The engine writes in Korean; the translation follows it sentence by sentence and adds nothing. Edits to the Korean original, if any, are limited to the form of address produced by the blank name field and obvious typos; the footer gives the exact count. Only the passages confirmed by the record are left sharp; the rest is hazed. To read the whole text, turn off the switch below.

The Four Pillars of Saju (四柱)

Your Year Pillar (年柱) is Sin-sa (辛巳). The heavenly stem Sin (辛) is Yin metal (陰金), that is, metal like a well-cut gem or a thin blade. The earthly branch Sa (巳) is the year of the snake, and it holds a small but distinct ember inside it. Your Month Pillar (月柱) is Mu-sul (戊戌). Mu (戊), Yang earth (陽土), sits on top of Sul (戌), the dry earth of autumn, giving the impression of a firm hill just before the first frost. Your Day Pillar (日柱) is Im-jin (壬辰), and this pillar holds your center, the Day Master (日干). Im (壬) is Yang water (陽水), water like a great river or the sea. Beneath it, Jin (辰) is the seat of the dragon and a storehouse of wet earth that keeps water in reserve. Your Hour Pillar (時柱) is Im-ja (壬子). The deep water of midnight is layered on once more, so this chart is a structure in which the water level rises the deeper the night goes.

If you draw the whole chart as a single scene, it looks like this. Between two autumn hills standing face to face there is a deep reservoir, and from its bottom a midnight spring keeps welling up without rest. The Sin metal (辛金) of the Year Pillar lends strength to the water like a water source (水源) that feeds the spring. Water is abundant, but the ways to use this water, namely wood and fire, are barely visible. The first impression is of a person who looks calm and solid on the outside but carries both depth and pressure inside.

The branches of the Month Pillar and the Day Pillar, Sul (戌) and Jin (辰), are in a clash (沖) relationship, striking each other head on. It is as if the autumn hill and the reservoir's embankment touch and shake each other. So in your life there tends to come, from time to time, a period when the ground shifts inside even though things look stable on the surface. This movement often shows up as a major change of direction, a move, or a change of job1. If you use such shaking as a chance to sort things out and rearrange them, rather than leaving it as a long-lasting anxiety, things tend to resolve in the direction where the water does not stagnate and rot but finds a new channel.

10-Year Luck Pillars (大運) and the Flow of the Five Elements (五行)

In terms of the five elements, Earth (土) and Water (水) are the most numerous with three each, and of the two, the overall momentum of the chart leans toward earth. Fire (火) and Metal (金) have one each, and Wood (木) does not appear on the surface at all. However, Eul wood (乙木) is hidden inside Jin (辰), so it is not completely cut off. You can think of it as a small sprout under the ground that cannot be seen.

The Day Master, Im water (壬水), is strong (身强). The same water supports it from the Im (壬) and Ja (子) of the Hour Pillar and the Jin (辰) of the day branch, and the Sin metal (辛金) of the year stem gives birth to water. Having ample water is a good thing, but when there is power left over, it can pool or overflow without finding anywhere to be used. So the task of this chart is not to add more power but to use it appropriately and draw some off.

The Useful God (用神) is Fire (火). Fire corresponds to the Wealth stars (財星) in this chart, and the Byeong fire (丙火) inside Sa (巳) is its root. There are three reasons fire is needed. First, it warms the cold, deep water and gives it vitality. Second, it becomes the channel through which the overflowing water leads to real-world results. Third, it gives temperature and direction to the heavy balance of earth and water. However, since there is only one fire, it is precious but also easily extinguished, so when a luck period of Wood (木), which keeps fire alive, arrives, the help tends to be large.

The 10-year Luck Pillars (大運) run from Jeong-yu (丁酉) at age 7 to Byeong-sin (丙申) at age 17. In this early stretch fire rises in the heavens, but the branches lean toward metal and water, so progress may be slower than expected. In particular, Sin (申) easily meets Ja (子) and Jin (辰) and greatly swells the water energy, so restraint and setting a direction are important in this period. At Eul-mi (乙未) from age 27, wood appears in the heavens for the first time and you can breathe more freely, and from Gap-o (甲午) at age 37 through Gye-sa (癸巳) at age 47, the energy of fire draws near2. This reads as the harvest period of this chart. However, Mi (未) and O (午) fall into Void (空亡), so even when opportunities come, it may feel like they take one beat longer to take shape. After that, Im-jin (壬辰) at age 57 is a stretch where water and earth become heavy again, so habits that keep body and mind light will help.

Day Master (日干) Reading (1): Who you are

The Day Pillar Im-jin (壬辰) is a pillar called Magnificent Star (魁罡) in Saju. The Magnificent Star symbolizes strong momentum and big decisions, an energy that, rather than staying ordinary, pushes through to the end once a purpose is set. If Im water (壬水) is a great river, Jin (辰) is the deep pool where a dragon lives. So you read as a person who holds an enormous volume of water and a direction beneath a calm surface. Even when you say little, you have presence, and you are the type who does not move lightly but makes big waves when you do move.

Inside Jin are hidden Mu earth (戊土), Eul wood (乙木), and Gye water (癸水). Mu earth stands for a sense of responsibility and the pressure of reality, Eul wood for gentle sensibility and the seed of expression, and Gye water for deep intuition and a spring of thought. On the outside you are a grand river, but inside there is delicate sensitivity together with reflection that turns things over for a long time. So while people around you see you as a cool-headed person, those close to you often discover an unexpectedly tender side.

The Twelve Life Stage of the day branch is Tomb (墓). Tomb is the place of the storehouse and the grave, where water gathers and is stored. This position relates to a tendency to pile everything up deep in your heart. Whether it is feelings or plans, you tend not to bring them out easily and let them mature for a long time, so sometimes things are released all at once after time has passed. The Day Pillar also has Yin Mis-alignment (陰錯殺), so in close relationships there tends to be a misalignment of intentions or misunderstandings. With the people closest to you, the habit of putting your true feelings into words once becomes the remedy.

To use a metaphor, you are a clear, deep lake held behind a high embankment. Usually the lake is still and reflects the sky, but when the embankment opens, enough water to sustain a whole city flows out. Your task is to decide for yourself when, and in which direction, to open that embankment. If you cannot decide when to open it, the water keeps crashing around inside, and if you decide, the same volume of water becomes a dependable strength.

Day Master (日干) Reading (2): The grain of daily life

The pace of your daily life is closer to a tide going slowly and deeply in and out than to fast, crashing waves. Usually you think and observe quietly, and then at the moment it is needed, your concentration rises all at once. Within a day, as the Ja (子) of the Hour Pillar suggests, your mind tends to become clear from late evening into the middle of the night3. However, if you use that time slot for long stretches, you end up borrowing the next day's energy in advance, so it is good to immerse yourself but set a time to stop.

The environments you prefer are wide, quiet places with room to breathe. A waterside or an open window, a tidy desk, and uninterrupted time suit you. On the other hand, narrow and dry spaces, noisy places, and situations where you are pressed for time and keep getting called away over details quickly wear down your energy. Because the chart has little wood and fire, light play, spontaneous movement, and things that warm the body do not naturally enter your routine. So if you are not conscious of it, only thoughts and plans pile up while the body is likely to stiffen.

What your hand reaches for are things that gather information and help you understand structure. Books, materials, maps, numbers, or conversations worth quietly chewing over are like that. This is because the Sin metal (辛金) of the year stem, as Direct Resource (正印), becomes a spring of learning and understanding. Meanwhile, the Mu earth (戊土) of the Month Pillar is Seven Killings (偏官), so you may often feel that tasks to be done or responsibilities are always sitting on your shoulders. If resting does not feel like rest, it is quite likely a sign that this sense of responsibility has become excessive.

As a small remedy, try fixing one activity a day that warms your body into your schedule. Something like a light walk, getting some sun, or a warm meal. Since this is a chart whose Useful God is fire, such small warmth often actually changes the grain of the day. Also, when making plans, if you alternate days for meeting people with days for recharging alone, the deep water circulates instead of stagnating.

Day Master (日干) Reading (3): Behavior under pressure

When pressure comes, you are the type who first steps back and measures the water level. In your chart, Mu earth (戊土), which corresponds to Seven Killings (偏官), appears in the month stem and is also hidden inside Jin (辰) and Sul (戌), so it is a structure in which outside demands, rules, and the expectations of superiors feel large. At such times, rather than reacting immediately, you tend to observe the situation for a long while and then judge. Decisions may look slow, but once made, you do not easily change direction. It is a pattern of being quiet while the embankment is closed and the flow becoming clear the moment it opens.

In conflict, you may hold back your words and swallow them at first, and then, once past the critical point, your words and attitude can turn sharp all at once. The Ja (子) of the Hour Pillar is Sharp Edge (羊刃), the energy of a honed blade, and the Day Pillar is Magnificent Star, so a single remark made when your feelings are hurt may sound much harsher than usual. Even if you feel you only stated the facts, it may remain in the other person as a memory of being cut. Because of the Jin-Sul clash (辰戌沖) in which the month branch and day branch strike each other, there are also moments when, as stress builds up, your mind shakes inside and your judgment becomes hasty.

When reading people, you look first at the structure of power and the speed rather than the words. You sense relatively quickly who holds decision-making power and whose words and actions differ. Under the influence of the Direct Resource in the year stem, you also have an attitude of trying to understand, so you are skilled at analyzing the other person's position. However, if the analysis drags on, you may end up seeing only the structure without reading the feelings themselves.

The remedy is simple but very effective. On days when emotions rise, put off important answers by one night, and in the meantime move your body or try writing things down. This gives the water time to make a full circuit and cool down before unfavorable words leave your mouth. Also, if you tell one trustworthy person about the situation first, it helps reduce the pattern of piling things up alone until they burst. By season, difficult decisions tend to resolve more smoothly when made in warm seasons rather than in the dry, tense late autumn.

Day Master (日干) Reading (4): Innate temperament

Looking at your basic foundation before experience has refined it, you have a temperament of deep curiosity and quick understanding, in which thinking comes before emotional expression. As a strong Day Master receiving strength from water in three places, your adaptability and capacity to embrace are large, and you change form according to your environment without losing your true nature. It is similar to how a great river winds along the terrain but never changes its direction toward the sea.

The Twelve Life Stage of the Year Pillar is Severance (絶). Severance is the place of being cut off and starting anew, so in childhood it is possible that you did not inherit much or that your environment changed often. So the sense that you had to make your own way may have grown early. The same Year Pillar also has Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人), so there is also a tendency for a helpful elder or connection to appear from somewhere whenever things look hopeless. The Cap & Sash (冠帶) of the month branch is the place where, in young adulthood, the energy to show yourself to society and be recognized rises, and the Emperor (帝旺) of the hour branch is a structure in which strength reaches its peak in the later part of life. With Severance at the front and Emperor at the back interlocking, you look like a person who draws a curve that starts slowly and grows firmer over time.

The strength of your innate temperament is depth and composure, but because the energy of wood is empty, you may be clumsy at letting thoughts out into the world. This is because the Output stars (食傷), the power to speak, make, and express, are weak in this structure. Even when the stories in your heart are rich, there are times you get stuck in the process of moving them into speech, writing, or a workM1. If you know this, you can treat expression as a trainable skill.

At the base of your temperament there is also stubbornness. Because the water is plentiful and the earth is firm, you do not easily let go of a principle once you have taken it to heart. This works as trustworthiness and can also harm flexibility. When hearing a new opinion, the habit of asking yourself, "If I take just one thing from this opinion, what would it be?" is a way to use your temperament gently. If you lean a little more toward wanting to be a stream that waters young stems, the strong water becomes more useful.

Day Master (日干) Reading (5): The inner world

Beneath the surface, unspoken thoughts and feelings are piled up in layers. This is because the day branch is Tomb (墓). Tomb is the place of storage, so you tend to put past memories, hurt feelings, and even the ambitions you want to achieve into a drawer and not open it easily. This drawer gives a sense of stability, but if it stays shut for a long time, it can get damp. If there are days when you say you are fine on the outside but keep ruminating inside, read it as a sign that the drawer is full.

Your chart has Red Glamour (紅艷殺), so a grain of romance and charm runs through your heart. Once your feelings move, they tend to become deep and intense. Meanwhile, Heaven Net (天羅) and Widow Star (寡宿) tend to show up as a stifled feeling like being caught in a net, or as an attraction to time alone. There are times when a feeling of being alone passes over you even in a crowd, and moments when you actually feel more settled when alone. This solitude may be not a lack but an environment that grows depth, yet if it goes on for a long time, it can easily spread into loneliness.

The recurring inner tensions appear to be of two kinds. One is the tug of war between responsibility and freedom. The Mu earth of Seven Killings keeps reminding you of duties, while the nature of water, which wants to flow, desires freedom. The other is the tension between the wish to reveal yourself and the habit of hiding. Because wood is empty and the channel of expression is narrow, the things you really want to say first go through many rehearsals inside your heart.

What this inner world needs is a small outlet. Water channels that are small in scale but flow steadily are good, such as a diary, music, walks, or conversations with one person you feel comfortable with. In particular, walking in places with greenery fills in the missing wood energy and gently opens the drawers of the heart. Rather than pushing yourself, if you try writing one line about "what is the weather inside me right now," the deep water clears faster.

Day Master (日干) Reading (6): How you connect with people

In relationships, you are the type who keeps a distance and observes at first, and then, once trust builds, commits deeply. As Widow Star (寡宿) suggests, you are not an open, sociable type from the start, but toward someone you have once opened your heart to, you show a loyalty that lasts. In gatherings, rather than talking a lot, you tend to take the role of pointing out the core at important moments. Your visible calm overlaps with the subtle charm of Red Glamour, so it is a structure in which more than a few people approach you first.

The people drawn to you are likely to be warm, lively, and free in expression. Since the Useful God is fire and wood is lacking, when you meet people who laugh a lot, are active, and show their feelings honestly, your water warms up and flows better. On the other hand, between people who are water like you, there is understanding but each only digs deeper, so conversations are serious while reality easily stagnates.

There is also a structure of helpful patrons. The Heavenly Noble of the Year Pillar hints at help from elders or superiors in your early years, and the Officer Patron (天官貴人) of the Month Pillar indicates support from organizations or public connections within society. The Felicity Patron (福星貴人) of the Day Pillar is a flow in which connections that bring blessings of the heart and stability come in middle age. However, such patrons do not come to people who sit still, and tend to stay longer with people who express thanks when they receive help.

The points of caution in close relationships are the Yin Mis-alignment of the day branch and the Jin-Sul clash. Since the spouse position is a shaking structure, there are times when a trivial remark is interpreted differently by each side or the adjustment of distance goes off. The solution is nothing grand. Putting unspoken expectations into words, and letting the other person know "I'm thinking right now" when a silence grows long, keep the temperature of the relationship. It is also good to use your way of keeping distance gently. Rather than cutting off firmly, if you leave a signal that you are stepping back for a while and will return, the deep water can remain a lake that embraces the other person rather than freezing them.

Day Master (日干) Reading (7): Work and ambition

Your attitude toward work is to draw the big picture first and then build the structure. Seven Killings sits throughout the chart and the Month Pillar has Officer Patron, so you tend to gain strength in positions that involve organizations, systems, and responsibility. The Direct Resource Sin metal (辛金) of the year stem supports an aptitude for specialized knowledge and qualifications, research, and analysis. So you may stand out in fields that demand depth of judgment and systematic thinking, such as research, law and policy, medicine or strategy, finance or logistics. With the momentum of the Magnificent Star as well, a position leading a team also suits you.

What makes you start is meaning and challenge. Rather than simple repetition or immediate profit, what moves your heart is "Does this work change a structure?" The power that carries you to the end is outside deadlines and responsibility. Goals you set alone are easily postponed, but when you have promised someone or a deadline is attached, you show remarkable concentration. So for important work, it is good to deliberately create midpoint check dates and public commitments.

The fact that the Useful God is fire, that is, the Wealth stars, means that your power is complete only when the fruits of your work connect with real-world results. Even if you have ideas and expertise, if you do not put them before the market or before people, the water stays stagnant. Since wood is lacking, you have to deliberately create channels of expression such as lectures, writing, presentations, and making projects public for the fire to catch. Solving just this one thing can greatly change the flow of the chart.

In terms of timing, this year, the Byeong-o (丙午) year, is a year in which the Wealth stars appear in both heaven and earth. Next, the 2027 Jeong-mi (丁未) year brings in the Wealth stars and Direct Officer together, and the 2028 Mu-sin (戊申) year is a flow in which the pressure of Seven Killings grows. The order is that wealth and opportunities open first and then responsibility and titles follow, so when opportunities come, it is stable to put the structure in order first rather than expanding excessively. In terms of the 10-year Luck Pillars, the Gap-o Luck Pillar after age 37 reads as the stretch where the harvest draws near.

Day Master (日干) Reading (8): Strengths and points of caution

Strength one is deep judgment. Because the Direct Resource Sin metal becomes a spring of learning and the Im water Day Master flows widely, you have the power to understand matters as structure rather than surface. The ability to find the core thread in a complex situation becomes a greater asset as time goes on.

Strength two is the resilience to stand again even after being shaken. Thanks to the Emperor in the hour branch and the deep-rooted water energy, you tend not to stay down long even after collapsing once. The experience of Severance (絶) in the Year Pillar may actually have built the nerve to start again from the bottom.

Strength three is a trustworthiness that calls in patrons. Heavenly Noble, Officer Patron, and Felicity Patron span different periods, so there tends to be an adviser or supporter who appears at each crisis. The sincerity and quiet trustworthiness you have built up over time hold these connections firmly.

The first point of caution is sharp words and emotions that burst out all at once. Sharp Edge and Magnificent Star overlap, so when you explode after holding back, it can come across far more harshly than usual. On days when emotions run high, the single rule of putting off your answer by one night protects relationships a great deal. Most words are not too late to send after rereading them in the morning.

The second point of caution is the habit of piling things up and carrying them alone. When Tomb, Heaven Net, and Widow Star overlap, you can easily wear yourself out by bearing hard things alone without speaking of them. Asking for help is not weakness but a skill that opens the flow. Share how you are doing regularly with one or two people you can trust, and settle on one outlet for expression. If you refine just these two things, the power of strong water is likely to turn into a gentle and lasting influence.

Balance of Cold, Warmth, Dryness, and Dampness (寒暖燥濕)

You were born in the autumn month of Sul (戌月), the season when cool winds blow and the ground begins to dry. Yet inside the chart there are as many as three waters, plus the midnight Ja (子), so the overall temperature leans toward the cool side. The fire responsible for warmth is only one, inside Sa (巳), like a small lamp. So both body and mind are sensitive to cold, and your energy tends to come noticeably alive when there is a warm stimulus.

In terms of humidity, it is mixed rather than tilted to one side. Jin (辰) is wet earth holding water, and Sul (戌) is bone-dry earth. Since the two strike each other in a clash, dampness and dryness alternate within the same chart. In the mind, your thoughts may sink in a soggy way, and then one day become parched and sensitive, so that you bristle at small things. In the body, too, it may go back and forth, with cold energy building up and then dryness being felt, so it is better to aim for balance than to prescribe in only one direction.

The habits to practice can be summed up like this. Walk while getting about 10 minutes of sun in the morning, and often include warmly cooked food and soup, and warm drinks such as ginger tea or jujube tea, with your meals. Cold drinks late at night and late-night snacks tend to burden a structure with a lot of water, so try cutting back on them. To soothe dryness, it helps to drink warm water often, keep indoor humidity at a moderate level, and use a softly warm light such as orange lighting in the evening.

By season, summer is your natural charger. Since this is a chart whose Useful God is fire, your energy rises in the period when sunlight and activity increase, and in winter you need to consciously warm your body and meet people so your mind does not sink. If days of being lost in thought alone for a long time on winter nights continue, raise the temperature with warm conversation and light exercise. This is not a medical judgment about health but a lifestyle tip for bringing out the grain of the chart in daily life.

Ten Gods (十星)

The Ten Gods (十星) in Your Chart

The loudest star in your chart is Seven Killings (七殺, 偏官). There is Mu (戊土) earth in the month stem, and the main qi of both the month branch Sul (戌) and the day branch Jin (辰) is also earth. It looks like layer upon layer of mountains and embankments surrounding your Day Master (日干), Im (壬水) water, which is like a great river. Seven Killings stands for pressure, responsibility, and challenge. It often shows up as a temperament that takes on heavy work first, even when no one asks. There is a good chance that the feeling "if I don't do it, who will?" took root in you early.

Fortunately, the water side is also solid. In the hour pillar, the Im (壬) water is a Friend (比肩) and the Ja (子) water is a Rob Wealth (劫財), and they stand beside you on the same side. The year stem Sin (辛金) metal is a Direct Resource (正印) that nourishes the roots of the water. So your structure has the strength to stand up to the mountains rather than dry up under their weight. However, because the mountains are high and the river is deep, a taut tension tends to persist inside you for a long time.

There are also quiet stars. The Eating God (食神) does not appear, and the Hurting Officer (傷官) is faint, only a single Eul (乙木) wood hidden inside Jin (辰). There is no Direct Officer (正官) either. In terms of the five elements, Wood (木) is empty, so your capacity to unwind at ease and express yourself may be relatively weak. The Wealth stars (財星) are hidden: Indirect Wealth (偏財) as the Byeong (丙火) fire inside Sa (巳), and Direct Wealth (正財) as the Jeong (丁火) fire inside Sul (戌). Since the Useful God (用神) is Fire (火), these hidden embers are the key to the chart.

Taken together, you are a person with a great sense of responsibility and a sturdy build, but with a narrow channel for enjoying and letting go. The prescription is simple. Regularly set aside time not only for what you have to do but also for what you want to do. It helps to bring Wood (木) energy into daily life, through things like writing, light walks, or tending plants. Getting sunlight and eating warm food are also small habits that revive Fire (火). It is like lighting a small lamp on a mountain ridge in a dark room.

How You Meet the World

When many people gather, you tend to naturally take on the role of the one who provides weight and steadiness. With strong Seven Killings, your mind actually becomes clearer in a crisis. When everyone is flustered, you may be the one who says, "Let's sort this out in order first." The Magnificent Star (魁罡) in your day pillar adds decisiveness and charisma. Once you make up your mind, you have a firmness that does not back down, and this sometimes leaves the impression of a leader.

On the other hand, the Sharp Edge (羊刃) sits on the Ja (子) water of the hour branch. This means that you are usually calm water, but when something crosses the line, you tend to become sharp. At such times, the habit of sleeping on it and answering the next day, rather than reacting immediately, helps a great deal. It is practice in keeping the blade in its sheath.

The stage where you shine is a place with clear rules and a well-defined scope of responsibility. Overall project management, crisis response, laying the foundations of an organization, and fields that demand precision, such as law, administration, and technology, suit you. Conversely, settings where you have to chat endlessly and keep the mood light can wear down your energy quickly. This is because your Output stars (食傷) are weak, so you were not born with a knack for talking lightly.

In relationships, thanks to the Friend and Rob Wealth, your loyalty to colleagues and friends runs deep5. Once you are on someone's side, you go all the way. However, Rob Wealth sometimes leads to sharing money or opportunities. In a partnership where money changes hands, make the paperwork and the division of roles clear first. With Red Glamour (紅艶殺), you also draw people in with a subtle charm, whether romantic interests or colleagues. Be aware of that atmosphere, but setting the boundaries of relationships yourself will make things much more comfortable.

Family Relationships

In a man's chart, the Wealth stars represent the wife and father, and the Officer stars represent children. Friend and Rob Wealth are siblings, and the Resource stars are the mother. Let me sketch your family landscape within this frame.

The Direct Resource (正印), which represents the mother, stands out clearly as Sin (辛金) metal in the year stem. Your bond with your mother is likely to be remembered as warm, careful protection and teaching. However, Sin metal has rather weak roots, so your mother may have cared a great deal but been clumsy at expressing it. The Indirect Wealth (偏財), which represents the father, is hidden inside as Byeong (丙火) fire within Sa (巳). Your father may have been someone who worked quietly, who was away for work, or who did not put affection into words. It is closer to a love you only understand once you are an adult.

Friend and Rob Wealth, which represent siblings and friends, are in the hour pillar. The flow is one in which relationships with siblings or colleagues deepen with age. Even if you were distant when young, you are likely to become each other's support after middle age.

The day branch, the seat of the wife, is Jin (辰), with Seven Killings as its main qi. With a spouse, you are likely to have a relationship of mutual responsibility and tempering. It is also a structure in which the month branch Sul (戌) and the day branch Jin (辰) collide. So the closer the relationship, the more there are times when disagreements surge up strongly. The Direct Wealth (正財), which represents the wife, is hidden as Jeong (丁火) fire within Sul (戌). It is a relationship in which your partner's warmth is confirmed slowly from within rather than shown loudly on the outside. When a big fight breaks out, the one who protects the relationship is not the one who wins but the one who softens their words first.

For a man, children correspond to the Officer stars. Your Seven Killings is strong, so your bond with sons is fairly distinct, and with no Direct Officer, daughters occupy a relatively quiet place. Expectations and strictness toward children can easily come first, so try spending more time together rather than lecturing.

Why People Are Drawn to You

The first appeal people feel beside you is dependability. A person with strong Seven Killings gives the impression of not wavering in a crisis. Even if you do not talk much, trust builds up: "I can leave this to this person." You are someone who gives the feeling of standing under a big tree on a rainy day.

The second is depth. Im (壬水) water is close to a great river or the sea. Even if you seem composed on the outside, you give the sense that many stories are flowing within. Add the Direct Resource, and an attitude of wanting to learn and a certain dignity seep through. So people who want conversations that are not shallow naturally gather around you.

The third is a subtle attraction. With Red Glamour in your chart, you have a side that holds others' gaze through atmosphere rather than words. Auspicious stars such as the Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人), Heaven Virtue Harmony (天德合), and Moon Virtue Harmony (月德合) are also near you. So it may often happen that an unexpected person reaches out a hand when things are hard. These stars work better when you reach out first and ask for help than when you stay still.

However, the same strength can sometimes read as distance. The energy of the Magnificent Star and the Sharp Edge gives people meeting you for the first time the impression of "someone hard to approach." Because your Output stars are weak, you are clumsy at conveying warmth in words, which sometimes leads to misunderstandings. A small greeting, a brief compliment, a single laugh will lower this wall noticeably. Try putting the warmth inside you into a single sentence.

And remember that your Useful God is Fire (火). Your best self comes out when you are with people who are bright, warm, and humorous, in other words, people with the energy of fire. Such people may draw you in, but they also help you loosen up.

Childhood (Year Pillar): A Reading Through the Ten Gods

Your year pillar is Sin-sa (辛巳). The year stem Sin (辛金) metal is Direct Resource (正印), and Byeong (丙火) fire, the main qi of the year branch Sa (巳), is Indirect Wealth (偏財). This means your childhood environment had a grain of learning and care. There is a good chance that books, rules, or the teachings of elders were prominent in your home, and that your mother, or an elder like a mother, looked after you attentively. Indirect Wealth is, on the other hand, a star that lets you learn early by watching how the world works and get a feel for money and household management. You may have grown up watching your father or other elders in the family being active or working busily.

However, the Twelve Life Stage for this period is Severance (絶). It is a place where roots are cut and then sprout again, so in childhood you may have experienced breaks such as a change of environment, moving house or changing schools, or the absence of a guardian. Or you may have felt early on that, within the family, you had to take care of things on your own. These experiences later turn into your independence and adaptability. The strength to start anew from a place where things were once cut off has become second nature to you.

The Heavenly Noble sits in your year pillar. It can be interpreted as meaning that, at every difficult moment, there was an unexpected helping hand, such as a teacher, a relative, or an elder in the neighborhood. Looking back, there will be someone you remember with "it was thanks to that person back then."

Inside the year branch Sa (巳), Mu (戊土) earth and Gyeong (庚金) metal are also hidden. Even if you looked warm on the outside, you may have been a child who grew up feeling an early sense of responsibility inside. If there are emotions you suppressed as a child, you need time now, as an adult, to comfort yourself. Writing a letter to your self of that time is one way to do it.

Young Adulthood (Month Pillar): A Reading Through the Ten Gods

Your month pillar is Mu-sul (戊戌). The month stem Mu (戊土) earth is Seven Killings (七殺), and the month branch Sul (戌) also has Mu earth as its main qi, so it too is Seven Killings. The heart of young adulthood and your early working years is filled with Seven Killings. There is a good chance that you were tempered early in a fiercely competitive environment, or learned your work in a position where the expectations of superiors and the organization were high. You tend to choose the path where you are recognized for your ability, even if it is hard, over the comfortable path. Experiences of "rites of passage" such as the military, exams, or a strict workplace are the color of this period.

The Twelve Life Stage of the month branch is Cap & Sash (冠帶), an auspicious place. It is the image of putting on the formal hat and stepping out into society, so in your youth there is strength for qualifications, titles, and achievements to follow relatively quickly4. The Sin (辛金) metal inside the month branch Sul (戌) is Direct Resource, so learning and certifications become the capital of your career. The Jeong (丁火) fire, Direct Wealth (正財), stands for stable income earned through diligent work, and this is the ember of the Useful God. The Officer Patron (天官貴人), Moon Virtue Harmony, and Heaven Virtue Harmony also overlap in the month pillar, so there is a flow of receiving help from superiors at work and in organizations.

Relationships with colleagues also take shape in this period. With colleagues who endured a Seven Killings environment alongside you, a lifelong loyalty often forms. However, since the month branch Sul (戌) and the day branch Jin (辰) clash (沖), you may waver between your job and your identity, wondering "is this really my path?" When you are considering a job change or a transition, decide not in a moment of heightened emotion but after the season has changed.

In terms of 10-year Luck Pillars (大運), the flow through Byeong-sin (丙申), Eul-mi (乙未), and Gap-o (甲午) brings in Fire and Wood energy. In this period, the empty Wood and the Useful God Fire are filled, so the direction is one in which your expressiveness and opportunities gradually open up.

Middle Age (Day Pillar): A Reading Through the Ten Gods

Your day pillar is Im-jin (壬辰). The Day Master itself is a great river, and the day branch Jin (辰) is an earthen reservoir with Seven Killings as its main qi. Inside Jin are Eul (乙木) wood, Gye (癸水) water, and Mu (戊土) earth. This means Hurting Officer (傷官), Rob Wealth (劫財), and Seven Killings (七殺) are mixed together in one room. In this period, you are a person who governs yourself, and at the same time someone who is constantly keeping a balance inside between what you want to say and what you have to do.

The Twelve Life Stage is Tomb (墓). It is a place for storing energy in a storehouse, so you have a strong tendency to hold things inside and accumulate them rather than show them. There is no need to see this only as unlucky. It is a form in which things you have thought about deeply and prepared for a long time grow large in middle age. However, holding everything alone can weigh on your heart, so be sure to create at least one outlet where you share your true feelings with someone you trust.

Your day pillar is the Magnificent Star (魁罡), so your decisiveness and competitive temperament are strong, and the Yin Mis-alignment (陰錯殺) and Heaven Net (天羅) are also present. It is a configuration in which crossed signals and frustrating misunderstandings easily arise with a spouse or in close relationships. The prescription is not to hold back your words, but rather to explain first. Adding just one sentence, "This is how I'm feeling right now," changes the direction of the relationship.

In your spousal bond, the Felicity Patron (福星貴人) is in the day pillar, so you can expect a flow in which, even if there are difficulties, blessings eventually come back. As partners, people who are warm, flexible, and richly expressive suit you, in other words, people with the Wood and Fire energy you lack.

This year, 2026, Byeong-o (丙午), is a year in which Indirect Wealth comes into the heavens and Direct Wealth into the earth. It is a flow that opens opportunities in wealth and relationships, but the day branch Jin (辰) may be shaken, so do not rush big decisions and approach them step by step.

Later Life (Hour Pillar): A Reading Through the Ten Gods

Your hour pillar is Im-ja (壬子), and since your birth time has been confirmed, it can be read clearly. The hour stem Im (壬水) water is Friend (比肩), and the hour branch Ja (子) water is Rob Wealth (劫財). The landscape of your later years is one in which children, students, and old friends fill the space around you like water. For a man, children correspond to the Officer stars, but no Officer star appears directly in the hour pillar. So your bond with your children tends to deepen not through exchanging affection in words but through each going their own way and trusting one another. The Seven Killings in the month and day pillars is also the star of your children, so the greater your expectations of them, the more important it is to keep those expectations from feeling like pressure.

The Twelve Life Stage is Emperor (帝旺), the most auspicious. It is the place where energy reaches its peak. Even in later life your mental strength and will do not wither; rather, the flow is one in which your own world grows firmer with age6. Since the Sharp Edge (羊刃) is in the hour pillar, strong energy can harden into stubbornness. With juniors or students, you will earn greater respect when you try to be the one who listens rather than the one who teaches.

What you will pass on is an attitude rather than property: a sense of responsibility that does not back down in a crisis, a trustworthiness that keeps a promise once made, and an attitude that never lets go of learning. It is good to organize these into writing, lectures, or mentoring. Since Wood is empty in your chart, in later life deliberately keep green energy near you, such as a garden, a forest path, or conversations with young people. Your heart will soften noticeably, like water seeping into dry ground.

The thing to watch out for is isolation. No noble star appears separately in the hour pillar, so help in later life comes from bonds you create by reaching out first. One gathering you attend regularly, and one or two old friends who check in on you, will be a great source of strength.

Symbolic stars (神煞)

Overview of All Symbolic Stars (神煞)

In a chart where the Im water (壬水) Day Master (日干) is strong and Earth (土) is plentiful, the symbolic stars read in two broad branches. One is the auspicious stars that draw people and opportunities to your side, and the other is the inauspicious stars that turn sharp when power tilts to one side.

There are five auspicious stars. Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) is the star of someone appearing to hold out a hand when you are at a dead end. Heaven Virtue Harmony (天德合) and Moon Virtue Harmony (月德合) are closer to a protective shield that covers faults and makes big troubles small. Officer Patron (天官貴人) is the power to be recognized within organizations or institutions, and Felicity Patron (福星貴人) is the blessing of not falling far short in making a living.

There are six inauspicious stars. Sharp Edge (羊刃) and Magnificent Star (魁罡) are both sharpened energies, so they can become decisiveness but can also spread into stubbornness and harshness. Yin Mis-alignment (陰錯殺) is a star under which the timing of relationships easily goes off, and Red Glamour (紅艷殺) carries a strong charm that attracts the opposite sex, which makes gossip likely to follow as well. Heaven Net (天羅) indicates a stifled feeling like being caught in a net, and Widow Star (寡宿) a tendency for the time spent enduring alone to grow longer.

The Void (空亡) branches are O (午) and Mi (未), and neither O nor Mi is among the four branches of the natal chart. So the Void does not erase any star. However, in the 2026 Byeong-o (丙午) year and the 2027 Jeong-mi (丁未) year, this empty seat is filled by luck. At such times plans may not hold as promised or expectations may feel like they are floating in the air, so for big decisions it is better to check documents and promises twice before moving.

The overall remedy is this. Since there are several sharp stars, build the habit of sleeping on a decision for one night before making it. On days when your mind turns rough, it is good to speak less and move your body first. Patron luck opens between people rather than being built up alone, so not cutting off contact with those close to you is the easiest way to improve your luck.

Childhood Stars: the Year Pillar (年柱)

The branch of the Year Pillar Sin-sa (辛巳) sits at Severance (絶) among the Twelve Life Stages. It is the place where the previous flow is cut off and something starts anew, so in childhood it is possible that you had the experience of separating once from your family's expectations or environment and finding your own way. Simply put, it is a period like a seed that has just fallen onto dry ground, so independence tends to grow before a sense of stability.

What matters is that Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) sits in this position. It is the star of a rescuer that eases the loneliness of Severance. Even if it was not a parent, it is highly likely there was someone, such as a neighbor elder, a teacher, or a relative, who said a word or opened a path at a decisive moment. Looking back, many people remember that even in hard times there was at least one person by their side.

Among the Twelve Symbolic Stars, Earth Killing (地殺) falls on the Year Pillar. Earth Killing is the energy of moving your home base and making a new start, so you may have often moved house, changed schools, or gone through changes in environment, or encountered the outside world early7. It may have felt unstable, but it remains as adaptability and a sense for finding your way in unfamiliar places.

The point of caution is that the deprivation of the early years can remain as anxious habits after you become an adult. If the feeling that you must solve everything alone hardens, you become clumsy at receiving help. To loosen this, deliberately practice asking for help. Starting with small requests is enough. Also, if you try putting your childhood memories in writing once, you may come to see that the time that seemed cut off was in fact the root that made you firm.

Young Adulthood Stars: the Month Pillar (月柱)

The Month Pillar Mu-sul (戊戌) is Cap & Sash (冠帶) among the Twelve Life Stages. It is the position of putting on the hat as you first step out into society, so from your twenties to your mid-thirties is a period when confidence and drive come first and the desire to be recognized is strong. The fitting metaphor for this period is the step of a new employee going out into the field in their first suit. It is still awkward, but the momentum is clear.

The Month Pillar has Officer Patron (天官貴人). It is a star under which you easily catch the eye of superiors in the workplace, organizations, or the public sphere, or are recognized through qualifications and titles. You are likely to gain strength on paths that involve exams, certificates, and official evaluations8, so the record you build in this period will be used for a long time afterward.

Meanwhile, the Heaven Virtue Harmony (天德合) and Moon Virtue Harmony (月德合) around the Month Pillar are a buffer that keeps mistakes from spreading far. If you have had the experience of getting through an unreasonable choice in your youth without a big wound, it may be thanks to this. However, overreaching because you trust in it is not advisable.

The month branch Sul (戌) is a place thick with Earth (土), and the net of Heaven Net (天羅) operates near here. So there may come, at least once, a stifling period when there is much you want to do but the road seems blocked. At such times it is better to change direction than to force a way through. A decision to turn the path of your job or studies once to the side actually lets you breathe9.

In terms of the flow of luck, in the Eul-mi (乙未) Luck Pillar from age 27 and the Gap-o (甲午) Luck Pillar from age 37, the lacking Wood (木) and the Useful God (用神), Fire (火), come in. In these periods blocked matters tend to come loose, so rather than being impatient, it is good to build up your basic skills.

Middle Age Stars: the Day Pillar (日柱)

The Day Pillar Im-jin (壬辰) sits at Tomb (墓) among the Twelve Life Stages. It is a place where energy is stored inward, so in middle age you are closer to accumulating and storing within than to showing things outwardly. You are quiet like a deep reservoir but with ample water, though because you do not open your heart easily, people close to you may feel a distance.

The Day Pillar carries Magnificent Star (魁罡). Im-jin is a representative Magnificent Star day, so your temperament makes quick decisions, has strong pride, and does not easily bend once decided. At work this becomes the nerve to take on a big game, but to a spouse or close colleagues it may come across as stubbornness. Between spouses it is good not to turn things into a matter of winning and losing. The single phrase "Let me hear you out first and I'll answer tomorrow" protects the relationship.

Felicity Patron (福星貴人) is together in this position, supporting food, clothing, shelter, and ease of mind. Even if you do not earn big, there is the security of not going hungry, and the blessing of having a place to rest when body and mind are tired. Also, Saddle Star (攀鞍殺) is present, adding the energy of holding a stable position and building trust.

On the physical side, since it is a structure in which Water (水) and Earth (土) collide, you need to pay attention to the kidneys, bladder, digestive system, and cold in the lower back and lower body. Try cutting down on cold food and putting warm soup and steady walking into your daily life.

Yin Mis-alignment (陰錯殺) refers to a tendency for the timing of relationships to go off. Meetings may come late or circle back once because of a misunderstanding, so it is good to have important conversations in the daytime when emotions have settled. On the work side, it is safer to divide things into stages than to push hard all at once.

Late Life Stars: the Hour Pillar (時柱)

The Hour Pillar Im-ja (壬子) sits at Emperor (帝旺) among the Twelve Life Stages. It is the place where energy is most vigorous, so it is a structure in which, toward later life, rather than losing strength, your own color actually becomes more vivid10. Picture a broad river reaching the sea and becoming at its most majestic. Even as you grow older, your thinking tends to be deep and your will unbroken.

However, Sharp Edge (羊刃) is attached to this position. The Sharp Edge of Im water is at Ja (子), so when the energy overflows too much, it can flow into stubbornness and self-righteousness. Like a flood topping an embankment, if you treat your children or juniors too firmly, relationships may grow distant. The way to govern this is the habit of saying less and giving advice only when asked for it. And if you set up a place to use your strength, such as a hobby that uses the body, for example hiking or woodworking, the overflowing energy drains out in a healthy way.

The Hour Pillar has no patron star of its own. This means that in later life, rather than expecting others to rescue you, the trust and relationships you have built up yourself become your assets. Steadily continuing the connections you made when young is the best preparation for old age.

Along with Widow Star (寡宿), Heaven Killing (天殺) and Six Harms (六害殺) read as the shadows of later life. It is a tendency for time alone to grow longer or for minor ailments of the body to continue. Create one gathering that meets regularly, get health checkups when the seasons change, and set days for eating with your family.

The Im-jin (壬辰) Luck Pillar from age 57 is a period when the same Water (水) energy overlaps and power grows stronger, so restraint is needed. From the Sin-myo (辛卯) Luck Pillar at age 67, Wood (木) comes in and the flow softens, and it is a good time to find fulfillment in sharing the experience you have built up over a long time.

Study · exams · qualifications

Your overall study luck (學運)

Your Day Master (日干) is Im (壬) water, like a great river, and it is on the strong (身強) side. This is not a chart that sinks down in front of learning for lack of energy. It is closer to the opposite: water held in store that overflows. The question is where to send that water.

The Resource stars (印星) that help scholarship are only the Sin (辛) metal of the year stem and the Gyeong (庚) metal hidden inside Sa (巳). They are closer to a thin spring. Still, the Emperor (帝旺) of the hour branch and the Cap & Sash (冠帶) of the month branch back them up. In the early years the flow of learning breaks off easily, but from young adulthood on, the power to push forward on your own takes hold.

The most visible weakness is that the Output stars (食傷), the Wood (木) energy that expresses and unpacks what you have learned, are entirely absent. It is like a pond full of water with no outlet. So although reading and understanding come without obstruction, you may be someone who needs separate training to bring things out through speaking, writing and presenting.

The noble side is solid. The Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人), Officer Patron (天官貴人) and Felicity Patron (福星貴人) are all present. There is a strong tendency to meet teachers or seniors who guide you at each turn on the road of study. These stars work more strongly when you learn through people than when you hold out alone.

To sum up, your study luck is upper-middle or better, and it is the type that ripens late. It is a flow in which learning accumulates the further you go, so I hope you will not read the slowness at the start as your limit. Water overflows only after it has filled the low places.

The grain of learning that suits you

Your chart is a structure in which water and earth each take three places. Im water stands for depth, wisdom and breadth of thought. Disciplines in which you gather information and draw a big picture suit you well. Philosophy, psychology, the social sciences, economics, law, data and information analysis, and fields that read flows, such as history or geography, are good examples.

The month stem Mu (戊) earth is Seven Killings (偏官). It is the position where you meet discipline and system. So rather than free art, the strength to last a long time comes out in specialist areas with a clear frameworkM3, for example engineering, medicine, administration, accounting, legal affairs and research posts. Jin (辰) earth and Sul (戌) earth are both ground like a storehouse. That also favors memorization and accumulative learning, in which knowledge, once taken in, is stored for a long time.

On the other hand, the missing Wood (木) stands for creative ideas and improvised expression. Pure creative work, on-the-spot debate, or fields worked out through the body such as sports may feel awkward at first. That does not mean you cannot do them. It means they are areas to fill in through training.

Your Useful God (用神) is Fire (火), so you shine most when you connect learning to real results. Courses with projects, practice and field application are better than digging into theory alone. Just as fire warms the chill of water, disciplines with a clear use keep your knowledge alive.

Here is one practical tip. When choosing a new field, first ask, "What can I make if I learn this?" Your concentration lasts longest in study whose use you can see.

Concentration and endurance

Resource stars are the power to sit down and dig in, and Officer stars (官星) are the power to endure deadlines and pressure. Your chart has as many as three Earth (土) Officer stars, so your sense of responsibility and your patience are solid. Because the Im water Day Master is strong, it is not crushed under that pressure; it stands up to it. Like a river flowing between embankments, your strength gathers precisely when there is a framework.

But there are points to note about this strength. The day branch Jin earth and the month branch Sul earth are in a clash (沖) structure. Periods tend to come when the mind is running in one direction and the flow suddenly bends. The longer a plan runs, the more doubts like "Is this right?" may rise in the middle. The Sharp Edge (羊刃) on the hour branch Ja (子) water is similar. When you are absorbed you dig in sharply, but once you are bent, you may turn direction abruptly.

The Day Pillar is the Magnificent Star (魁罡), so stubbornness is strong too. This stubbornness can be the power to go all the way, or a weakness that clings to the wrong method. A firm will is a strength, so use it, but set days for checkpoints along the way.

I recommend the habit of using your body. With Wood missing, energy tends to stagnate. If you slip walking, light jogging and stretching in between study sessions, your concentration lasts much longer. Rather than holding out for long stretches at once, a rhythm of studying 50 minutes and moving 10 minutes suits this chart.

Exams and qualifications

The stars examined for exam luck are the Academic Star (文昌貴人), the Hall of Learning (學堂貴人) and the Officer stars. In your natal chart the Academic Star (In 寅 for an Im water Day Master) and the Hall of Learning (Sin 申) do not appear. That means this is not a chart born with "exam-specific stars." Instead, the Officer stars are thick and the Officer Patron and Heavenly Noble are present, so there is steady strength toward qualifications and recognition by organizations.

In the luck cycles, this empty place gets filled. In the Byeong-sin (丙申) Luck Pillar from age 17, Sin metal came into the position of the Hall of Learning. It was a period in which you could produce results in study, and you are now near its end. After that, you meet the In wood of the Academic Star in the Gyeong-in (庚寅) Luck Pillar from age 77.

Looking at the coming years, 2026 Byeong-o (丙午) is a year with strong Wealth stars (財星). The mind is easily drawn to practical work and real-world matters rather than theory exams. 2027 Jeong-mi (丁未) brings in Direct Officer (正官), but Mi (未) earth is Void (空亡), so results may be confirmed late. The core years for exams are 2028 Mu-sin (戊申) and 2029 Gi-yu (己酉). Resource and Officer stars come in together in those years, so they are the most favorable for exams that bring recognition, such as qualifications, licenses and open recruitment. 2030 Gyeong-sul (庚戌) continues in the same direction, but Sul earth overlaps with the month branch, so the pressure may grow.

If you are preparing for an exam, a plan that uses 2027 as a year to build basic stamina and stakes everything on 2028–2029 fits the rhythm of this chart well.

The Luck Pillars in which study goes well

Your Luck Pillars run backward (逆行). The Jeong-yu (丁酉) Luck Pillar at age 7 was a period in which Direct Resource (正印) came in. It was a time when basic learning and habits took hold, and it reads as the period when learning began under the care of adults.

The Byeong-sin (丙申) Luck Pillar at age 17 is a period in which Sin metal becomes both the Long Life (長生) of Im water and its Hall of Learning. It was one of the periods when the most force went into study. There is a good chance that university and preparation for your first qualification took place within it.

The Eul-mi (乙未) Luck Pillar starting soon at age 27 is an important turning point. Eul (乙) wood is the Output star that had been missing. For the first time, the energy of expressing and unpacking opens up. It is the period when you begin to put out what you have learned as writing, speech and work. However, Mi earth lies within the influence of the Void, so if your goal is blurry, strength easily leaks away. If you invest in study with a clear direction, such as graduate school, a professional course or job training, good results are likely.

The Gap-o (甲午) Luck Pillar at age 37 is a period in which Eating God (食神) and Wealth stars arrive together. Learning easily leads straight to income and results. Since the Useful God, Fire, comes in directly, it is the liveliest Luck Pillar.

From Gye-sa (癸巳) at age 47 on, the character of study changes. Strength gathers toward teaching and organizing experience and know-how rather than degrees. In Sin-myo (辛卯) at 67, Direct Resource and Hurting Officer (傷官) meet, so learning may bloom once more in old age through writing or teaching. Luck Pillars are only a flow, and fruit grows in proportion to what you prepared in each period.

Study methods that suit your chart

Your chart is most efficient when time spent digging in alone and time spent learning from people are in balance. Im water tends to deepen in solitude, but because there are no Output stars, if you only study alone, things just pile up in your head and do not come out. So I recommend making individual study the base while always creating an outlet for output.

Concretely, it looks like this. Try explaining what you have learned out loud, on a blog, in notes, or in a study group. For this chart, practicing teaching is the best form of review. If you do writing and speaking side by side, the blocked water climbs up the stem called Wood (木) and bears fruit.

It is a structure with nobles, so mentor-style learning also suits you well. In particular, the Heavenly Noble sits on the early-years side, so the influence of a teacher or adult in childhood may have been large. If you find teachers, seniors and job mentors early, trial and error drops sharply. Learning hands-on beside someone in an apprenticeship style also goes well with the Useful God, Fire.

On the other hand, sitting for a long time in large group lectures may be less efficient11. Small study groups or one-on-one coaching are better.

As for environment, warm lighting, a sunny spot, and the morning and daytime hours are good. Cold study late at night feeds water energy further and makes thoughts stagnate. In this chart Fire is the Useful God, so keeping liveliness and warmth nearby is the best study environment.

When study wavers

Periods when study wavers appear in two main forms.

The first is when a clash (沖) is active. This chart has the Jin-Sul clash (辰戌沖), so when Jin earth or Sul earth comes in again through a Luck Pillar or annual luck (歲運), the mind wavers and direction easily changes. 2030 Gyeong-sul (庚戌) is such a year. At such a time it is safer to slow the pace of your existing plan than to make a big change of path. Put off the decision for about a month, and consult someone you trust.

The second is when energy tilts to one side. This chart is strong in earth and water, so an overly heavy, stagnant feeling may come. That is what it is like when an exam is approaching and the body will not move. At such times, do not force yourself to hold out at the desk; first fill up on fire energy with a walk, sunlight and warm food. On a day when the spark has weakened, letting air through works better than piling on more firewood.

2029 Gi-yu (己酉) is a time of Bathing (沐浴), so emotions may surge and temptations may increase. It is a good year for exam luck, so admit the wavering but do not let go of your routine. With Red Glamour (紅艶殺) present, there is also a tendency for study to slip as your heart goes into people and romance. If you stay aware of the balance, it can be adjusted well enough.

The prescription you can use at every hard pass is simple: break things into small pieces, move your body, and meet people. Keeping just these three is enough for most wavering to pass.

What study means in your life

In your life, learning is closer to a skeleton than a decoration. For the strong Im water to be used, it needs a channel to flow along. What makes that channel is study, qualifications and expertise. Just as the Earth of the Officer stars gathers the river into embankments, systematic learning turns overflowing energy into useful strength.

As the Officer Patron and Felicity Patron indicate, learning is a passage leading to social recognition and stability. It is a chart in which degrees, qualifications and depth in one field create your position. From middle age on, as Fire luck of the Useful God comes in, the picture is one of what you have learned bearing fruit as wealth and results.

Meanwhile, this chart has the Emperor (帝旺) of later life. It is a structure in which strength grows firmer with age. There is a good chance you will remain someone who learns until late and teaches for a long time. It means learning can be a lifelong companion.

However, as the Heaven Net (天羅) and Widow Star (寡宿) show, periods may also come when you are shut in alone and only your thoughts deepen. Do not make learning a reason for isolation; use it as a channel for sharing with people. Knowledge gets its fire only when it is shared.

What your chart says to you is this. The power to hold things deep inside is already sufficient, so now you only need to learn how to let them flow. Now, while you are still at the starting stage, is the best time. The Eul-mi Luck Pillar that is about to open is the period that opens that waterway, so I encourage you to start practicing writing, speaking and teaching early.

Career

Your Talent

Your Day Master (日干) is Im (壬水) water. It is water that flows far and holds deep, like a great river or the sea. The day branch Jin (辰) earth is a storehouse that holds water, so you read as a person whose judgment and patience stored within are far greater than the abilities shown on the surface. Add the structure in which the Ja (子) water and the Jin earth connect through water, and the central talent of this chart is a sense for analysis and strategy that lays out many variables at once and reads the big flow.

The Mu (戊) earth in the month stem and the Jin and Sul (辰·戌) earth in the day and month branches are all Seven Killings (偏官). Seven Killings is pressure, discipline, and responsibility. It is the image of several layers of embankments standing in front of flowing water, so you actually find your strength in positions with heavy control and responsibility. Your day pillar is the Magnificent Star (魁罡), so you also have the decisiveness not to back down at critical moments. The Sin (辛) metal in the year stem is Direct Resource (正印), so you have a deep affinity with study, documents, and qualifications, which leads to the ability to understand rules and make them your own.

Looking at the Twelve Life Stages, your early years (year branch) are Severance (絶), so rather than a foundation being handed to you, you tend to build it yourself. The entry into society (month branch) is Cap & Sash (冠帶), a period when drive and a sense of standing come alive, and your later years (hour branch) are Emperor (帝旺), when your strength rises the most. Rather than a talent that shines early, you are a late bloomer whose depth turns into trust as time goes onM2.

However, because Wood (木) is empty, the outlet for bringing what is inside you out into words and results is rather narrow. This talent is not flashy on the surface; it is closer to the talent of the person an organization leans on in a crisis.

How to Grow That Talent into Results

For this chart to turn talent into results, three things are needed: an outlet for expression, the sense of reality that Fire (火) brings, and time.

First, expression. Because there is no Wood, which corresponds to the Output stars (食傷), the pressure of Seven Killings easily builds up inside without release. It is the image of water rising behind a dry embankment that has no sluice gate. So the habit of bringing your thoughts out in forms such as documents, reports, presentations, and records becomes the key to results. It is fine if you do not talk much. Instead, you become a person who writes. If you organize the grounds for your judgments in writing even once a week, that in itself plays the role of your Output stars.

Next is fire. The Useful God (用神) being Fire (火) means you need the Wealth stars (財星), in other words, the warmth of reality: numbers, customers, physical goods, cash flow. A chart with strong water tends to sink into coldness the deeper its thinking goes. The Byeong (丙) fire inside the year branch Sa (巳) fire and the Jeong (丁) fire inside the Sul earth are the seeds of that warmth. Always keep beside you where your analysis will be used and how much value it will create. Then depth gets translated into results.

Last is time. Given the structure of Emperor in your later years, rushing actually costs you. In this chart, a track record of digging into one field for five years or more becomes your greatest asset. When starting a business or making a big expansion, it is more stable to keep a partner with good practical sense beside you, such as a business partner or a spouse. If you shoulder all the pressure alone, it is a structure in which strength leaks away.

Fields and Roles That Suit You

In terms of the realistic tracks of Korean society, the first recommendation is the certification and licensed-profession type. With Direct Resource and Seven Killings together, the path of proving your ability within exams and discipline suits you well. The civil service exam (공무원 시험) type is also possible, but rather than general administrative posts, job series (직렬) that interpret and enforce rules (tax, audit, investigation, legal affairs) fit your grain better. The second is the Wealth star + Output star type (specialist consulting, starting a business) that opens up after your late thirties. It is the path of going independent with your expertise during the period when Wood and Fire enter through the 10-year Luck Pillars.

The specific fields are as follows.

  • Tax and accounting (licensed tax accountant (세무사), certified public accountant (공인회계사)): Work that deals deeply with rules and numbers and catches errors under pressureM5. It is the track that best fits the balance of Seven Killings and the Wealth stars.
  • Legal affairs and labor (certified judicial scrivener (법무사), certified labor attorney (노무사), audit positions): Professions that carry authority and responsibility. A person with strong Seven Killings is persuasive on either side, whether keeping the rules or enforcing them.
  • Risk, compliance, financial analysis: Work that reads variables and filters out risks, where the depth of water is itself your competitive edge.
  • Real estate and asset management (licensed real estate agent (공인중개사), property appraisal (감정평가)): Your chart has a lot of Earth (土), so land and assets are fitting material. With the Jin-Sul clash, it also fits work with frequent transactions and movement.
  • Logistics, trade, data strategy and planning: Work that designs the flow of water.

By type, you are an organization-based expert type rather than a freelancer or creator type. Because there are no Output stars, work centered on improvised expression drains you heavily. You draw strength from positions backed by the name of an organization and by qualificationsM4.

The People Who Help Your Career

The positions of the noble stars (貴人) tell the mentor luck of this chart. The Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) is in the year pillar. The year pillar stands for relationships at a distance from you, school ties, the older generation, and the outer edges of your first steps into society. So diagonal mentors (a senior in another department, your supervisor at a former job, a senior from school, an elder at a client company) are more likely to be decisive than your formal direct reporting line. Because these people have no power to evaluate you, they tend instead to offer frank advice and introductions.

The Officer Patron (天官貴人) in the month pillar is a bond within the workplace. Among the team leaders or department heads early in your career, someone may appear who tests you while also raising you. This is a superior who is strict, speaks little, and has clear standards. Do not avoid them because the first impression is cold; try building trust through your work. The Felicity Patron (福星貴人) in the day branch stands for a warm person beside you who looks after you in practical ways: a close colleague, a spouse, a long-lasting partner.

By temperament, there are two kinds of people who help you. One is people with practical sense and warmth, in other words, hands-on people with fire energy12. They connect your analysis to money and results. The other is people who put things into words, in other words, people with wood energy. They are the kind who explain well and connect people well13. In terms of noble-star zodiac signs, people born in a Snake year (巳) and a Rabbit year (卯) correspond to the Heavenly Noble, so you may feel unexpectedly at ease with seniors or superiors born in these years.

Toward later life, the noble stars are not distinct. It is a structure that relies on the expertise you have built yourself rather than on juniors or subordinates. So when you raise juniors, it will be easier if you think of it as building a reputation rather than expecting something in return.

The People Who Become Obstacles

The biggest point of friction in this chart is the Jin-Sul clash (辰戌沖) between the day branch Jin earth and the month branch Sul earth. It is the collision of the Dragon year and the Dog year, and since it is already inside your chart, even if you look stable on the outside, two standards are always fighting within you. At work, your first impressions with superiors or colleagues born in a Dog year tend to collide hard, and with colleagues born in a Dragon year, a battle of pride easily arises from similar stubbornness. However, once the channel of communication opens, a clash sometimes turns into an honest relationship instead.

Another is the Ja-O clash (子午沖) between the hour branch Ja water and the Horse year (午). You, a person of the Rat, and superiors or colleagues born in a Horse year differ head-on in speed and method. People born in a Horse year move first while you measure first, and this gap reads as frustrating slowness from their side and as rashness from yours. With people born in a Goat year (未), harm (害) with the Rat and punishment (刑) with the Dog overlap, so quiet distrust easily builds up. With people born in a Snake year or a Monkey year (申), the relationship mixes combination and punishment, so you may grow close and then fall out over conflicting interests, and people born in a Pig year (亥) clash with the year branch Sa fire. People born in a Rabbit year (卯) form harm (害) with the Jin earth.

Translated into real workplace types, it looks like this. A Seven Killings-type boss who pushes only for results increases the pressure, and a speed-type colleague who skips steps in the process makes your caution look like a weakness. A senior faction that lines people up politically is also a burden.

The prescription is simple. When you clash, do not react immediately; organize your thoughts in writing and deliver them that way. This is because with the Sharp Edge (羊刃), your words easily come out like a blade. In meetings, present the grounds before the conclusion. With people who move at a different speed, agreeing on interim check-in dates in advance reduces conflict.

Timing of Promotions and Transitions

Your 10-year Luck Pillars run in reverse. Seen in 10-year units, the flow is as follows. Ages 17–26 are the Byeong-sin (丙申) Luck Pillar: Byeong fire enters as the Useful God, but the power of the three-way combination in which Sin metal, Ja water, and Jin earth gather into water grows strong. It is a time when opportunities are visible but your mind is busy, so it is right to focus on preparing qualifications and building basic skills. Ages 27–36 are the Eul-mi (乙未) Luck Pillar, when the empty Wood comes in and expression opens up. Both a change of role and a change of job are possible in this period. However, Mi (未) earth is Void (空亡), and punishment with the Sul earth and harm with the Ja water overlap, so check the conditions when you move.

The Gap-o (甲午) Luck Pillar at ages 37–46 is the best stretch14. Gap (甲) wood becomes the Eating God (食神) and governs the pressure of Seven Killings, and the fruits become visible through the Direct Wealth of O (午) fire. Independence, promotion, and laying the foundation of a business are all worth weighting toward this period. Because O fire is Void and clashes with the hour branch Ja water, the fruits may come a beat late or changes may follow. The Gye-sa (癸巳) Luck Pillar at ages 47–56 brings in Rob Wealth (劫財), a time when you must be careful about partnerships, guarantees, and money matters. After age 57, your later-life strength rises to Emperor, and you settle into roles as an adviser and expert.

As for the coming years, in 2027 (Jeong-mi) the Direct Officer comes in, so talk of formal evaluations and positions is likely to come up. 2028 (Mu-sin) brings a Resource star along with the auspicious luck of Long Life, which favors exams and attempts at qualifications. 2029 (Gi-yu) overlaps Direct Officer and Direct Resource, which is good for formal reviews, but the Twelve Life Stage is Bathing (沐浴), so be careful of gossip and matters of face. 2030 (Gyeong-sul) overlaps the Jin-Sul clash and is a year of moves and department changes.

How to Get Through Hard Times

The periods to be most careful about are years when clashes overlap. In 2026, Byeong-o, the Ja-O clash overlaps with O fire being Void, so you may feel that wealth is in sight but cannot be grasped. For the remaining months of this year, it is better not to rush big contracts or decisions about changing jobs. In 2027, Mi earth is Void and is tangled in punishment with the Sul earth and harm with the Ja water, so opportunity and noise arrive together. In 2030, the Jin-Sul clash becomes active again.

In Korean workplaces, this pattern tends to appear in the following ways. One is notice of a department transfer during the organizational restructuring season at the end or beginning of the year. Your duties may suddenly change and you may feel wronged, but a move that comes in a clash year can also work to break stagnation. The other is being passed over for promotion or reputation problems that arise from overreaching ahead of reviews in Direct Officer years (2027, 2029). Things said lightly often come back.

In terms of special stars, the Sharp Edge is a signal to watch the blade of your words, the Magnificent Star to watch head-on confrontations with superiors, and Red Glamour (紅艷殺) to watch gossip about relationships. Heaven Net (天羅) is a tendency toward feeling trapped, and Widow Star (寡宿) a tendency for loneliness to build up.

At such times, the stance has three parts. First, put off big decisions such as quitting for one season. Second, keep records and ask a diagonal mentor for their opinion once. Third, keep the water from settling through habits that move your body (walking, swimming, exercise). In this chart, a hard year is often not an ending but a time to solidify your qualifications and expertise.

10-year Luck Pillars (大運), period by period

Luck Pillar 1 (ages 7–16) Jeong-yu (丁酉)

In this period the heavenly stem Jeong (丁) fire meets your Day Master (日干) Im (壬) water and forms the Jeong-Im combination (丁壬合). It is as if the Im water in both the day stem and the hour stem takes its hand, so the mind leans easily toward the Wood (木) energy your chart lacks. A combination does not automatically turn into a transformation, so it is safer to read this simply as a childhood full of curiosity and a strong wish to win the approval of adults. In terms of the Ten Gods (十星), Direct Wealth (正財) comes in, and attention gathers on "things you can hold in your hand": small pocket money, treasured belongings, regular habits.

The earthly branch Yu (酉) metal is Direct Resource (正印). It forms a six-harmony (六合) with Jin (辰) earth and a half-combination (半合) with Sa (巳) fire, gathering Metal (金) energy. Adding Resource stars (印星) to Water (水) that is already strong means protection is plentiful. In exchange, thoughts multiply and the time spent moving the body may shrink. The Yu-Sul harm (酉戌害) and the Ja-Yu break (子酉破) are also present, so misunderstandings may build up among friends, or hurt feelings may arise between people who are close.

What to watch is that, under too much protection, the power to make your own decisions grows late. What to lean on is the joy of learning. Quiet talents that accumulate, such as books, musical instruments and writing, tend to take root at this time. Like watering dry ground, it is good to hand over small challenges one at a time.

The attitude for these ten years is "take what you have been given and use it once more with your own hands."

Luck Pillar 2 (ages 17–26) Byeong-sin (丙申)

Byeong (丙) fire is the spark of the Useful God (用神), and in this Luck Pillar it arrives as Indirect Wealth (偏財). At first sight it is a welcome star, but it forms the Byeong-Im clash (丙壬沖) with the Im water of the day stem and hour stem, and it is tangled with the year stem Sin (辛) metal through the Byeong-Sin combination (丙辛合), which also has a tendency to turn into water. It is like a fire touching water just as it tries to light, so this easily becomes a period in which there is much you want to do but your surroundings keep changing15.

The branch Sin (申) metal is Indirect Resource (偏印). With the natal Ja (子) water and Jin (辰) earth it nearly completes the Sin-Ja-Jin (申子辰) water frame (水局), and with Sa (巳) fire it carries both the Sa-Sin combination (巳申合) and a punishment (刑). It is a Luck Pillar in which water energy that is already strong swells to the full. Thoughts and feelings overflow easily like a river in flood, and worries about your path, romance and the direction of your studies may shake hard. On the other hand, the Day Master receives the power of Long Life (長生) on top of Sin metal, so there is also a chance of finding opportunity in choices that take you outward, such as study abroad or relocation16.

What to watch is impulsive resolutions and a life in which night and day are swapped. What to lean on is physical activity. Things that directly bring fire energy to life, such as exercise, part-time work and hands-on experience, turn the flood of water into a path. It is also good to move during the hours when the sun is out and to make sure to eat warm food. Keeping one trustworthy senior beside you greatly reduces the wavering.

The attitude for these ten years is "flow wide, but build one embankment."

Luck Pillar 3 (ages 27–36) Eul-mi (乙未)

Eul (乙) wood marks the Luck Pillar in which the Wood (木) missing from your chart arrives for the first time, in the form of Hurting Officer (傷官). It is like a young stem rising from ground where water was overflowing. Expressiveness, planning ability and a way with words come alive, and there is a tendency to want to raise your own voice17. However, Eul wood clashes with the year stem Sin metal in the Eul-Sin clash (乙辛沖), so there may be scenes of collision with the values formed in childhood or the expectations of those above you18.

The branch Mi (未) earth is Direct Officer (正官). It is a star like an embankment that holds down overflowing water, and it originally stands for a job, qualifications and a position of responsibility. But in this chart Mi earth falls on the Void (空亡). The position arrives, yet its substance fills in late, or you may feel that recognition does not come back as quickly as you hoped19. Mi earth forms a punishment (刑) with Sul (戌) earth and a harm (害) with Ja (子) water, so there may also be times when people inside an organization hurt your feelings.

What to watch is changing jobs or ending relationships in a hurry to fill the emptiness of the Void. What to lean on is leaving the talent of Hurting Officer behind as "finished work." Portfolios, writing, teaching and small business attempts grow best in this period. Empty places are often filled as time passes, so there is no need to rush to settle things.

The attitude for these ten years is "raise your own voice, but let the results speak."

Luck Pillar 4 (ages 37–46) Gap-o (甲午)

This is the Luck Pillar in which the most welcome combination for this chart arrives. Gap (甲) wood is Eating God (食神) and fills the missing Wood, and O (午) fire brings the Useful God, Fire, in as Direct Wealth (正財). Gap wood presses down on the month stem Mu (戊) earth and eases the pressure of Seven Killings (偏官), and O fire forms a half-combination (半合) with Sul earth and gathers the forces of fire. It is as if a campfire and firewood were set down together in a chart where water had been overflowing, so there is a good chance you will strongly feel things loosening and room to breathe opening up20.

Still, keep two things in mind. O fire is Void, so the wealth of this Luck Pillar tends to stay in your hands only if you build it up steadily rather than grasping it at once. Also, the Ja-O clash (子午沖) shakes the hour branch (時支). The hour branch stands for children, later life and the ground of daily life, so a move, a change of work and changes in the family schedule may all come at once. Fire and water meet head-on, so it is wise to look after the rhythms of the body as well, such as sleep, the heart and blood pressure.

What to lean on is turning specialist skill into a product, and activities of teaching, feeding or caring for others. Eating God is a star whose blessings circulate the more you give. What to watch is riding a good current, starting many things, and missing the finish. Make big decisions in the spring and summer terms, and leave contracts and promises in writing.

The attitude for these ten years is "build up the fire, but use the firewood sparingly."

Luck Pillar 5 (ages 47–56) Gye-sa (癸巳)

Gye (癸) water is Rob Wealth (劫財). It forms the Mu-Gye combination (戊癸合) with the month stem Mu earth and tends to turn into fire, so a scene opens in which energy leans toward the Useful God. The branch Sa (巳) fire is Indirect Wealth (偏財), and overlapping with the natal year branch Sa fire it makes the spark of wealth grow larger. Making money by moving outward, investment, business expansion and big deals easily become the themes of this period21.

The part to watch is Rob Wealth. Colleagues or business partners in a similar position, or siblings and friends, may lay hands on your share, or conversely you may, for the sake of face, stand surety or lend money. When there are two Sa fires, the fire tends to overheat and lead to impatience and overwork. The Ghost Gate (鬼門) pairing of Sa fire and Sul earth comes back to life, so your nerves may become sensitive and your sleep shallow; put rest time into your schedule.

What to lean on is the judgment that a person with accumulated field experience can have. Refining existing business and organizing its revenue structure suits this Luck Pillar better than starting new things. When money changes hands, I recommend the habit of confirming the partnership ratio, the repayment schedule and the method of recovery in writing. The more you trust someone, the more you need documents.

The attitude for these ten years is "keep as much as you earn, and draw a line when you share."

Luck Pillar 6 (ages 57–66) Im-jin (壬辰)

This is a Fu Yin (伏吟, a repeated pillar) Luck Pillar, in which the same stem and branch as your Day Pillar (日柱) arrives. One more Im water is added as Friend (比肩), and Jin (辰) earth comes in as Seven Killings (偏官). It is a period in which the same things come around again, so homework left unfinished in your past life may be set before your eyes once more. There is a tendency to sort out again relationships, work and health issues that have already passed once.

Jin earth forms a self-punishment (自刑) with the natal Jin earth and repeats the Jin-Sul clash (辰戌沖) with the month branch Sul earth. The water energy of Ja water and Jin earth also grows even thicker, making this the Luck Pillar in which water overflows the most. Seven Killings is the star of responsibility and pressure, so weights such as retirement, a change of role, and caring for parents or a spouse may come all at once. Fire is the Useful God, but in this period the spark weakens, so pay particular attention to circulation, knees and lower back, digestion and low mood.

What to lean on is the strength of Friend, that is, help from colleagues and peers. Gatherings, clubs and visits with old friends become an embankment for the heart. What to watch is the habit of carrying everything alone. Small habits protect this Luck Pillar: regular health checkups, walking every day while the sun is out, and making sure to eat warm food. It is safer to avoid big investments or standing surety and to simplify and cut spending.

The attitude for these ten years is "the stronger the current, the lower you walk, and do not stand alone."

Luck Pillar 7 (ages 67–76) Sin-myo (辛卯)

Sin (辛) metal is Direct Resource (正印), and since the same character as the year stem Sin metal arrives again, it has the shape of a Fu Yin. Lessons from childhood, or memories of your mother and teachers, tend to surface anew, and the desire to study and to put things in order grows. The branch Myo (卯) wood is Hurting Officer (傷官), and the Wood that your chart lacked finally puts down roots. The Myo-Sul combination (卯戌合) also links with the month branch Sul earth toward fire energy and indirectly helps the Useful God. This can be a period in which the heaviness of the earlier Luck Pillars becomes much lighter22.

Activities of expressing and sharing, such as writing, calligraphy, gardening and time with grandchildren, become good medicine for body and mind. Hurting Officer is also a star that makes you talkative, so filter your bluntness once before passing it on to the people close to you.

There are two places to watch. The Ja-Myo punishment (子卯刑) touches the hour branch, so questions of courtesy or hurt feelings may arise between you and your children or family, and the Myo-Jin harm (卯辰害) may show up as discomfort in digestion and the joints. Offer your family questions rather than advice, eat at regular times, and take time to walk in the morning sunlight. If you do this, this Luck Pillar becomes a period of great joy in putting things in order and passing them on.

The attitude for these ten years is "share what you have learned, gently."

Luck Pillar 8 (ages 77–86) Gyeong-in (庚寅)

Gyeong (庚) metal is Indirect Resource (偏印), continuing the Resource energy, and In (寅) wood is Eating God (食神), standing for comfortable food and small pleasures. The In-Sul half-combination (寅戌半合) helps fire energy, and In-Jin (寅辰) creates a direction of wood, making a structure in which the heart can settle relatively warmly in later life. There is a tendency to feel blessed in a daily life of sharing meals and keeping up hobbies with people you have known a long time.

However, the In-Sa punishment and harm (寅巳刑·害) touch the year branch Sa fire. The year branch is the root and the place of childhood, so old memories or long-standing health issues may come back up. Be especially careful with digestion, joints and falls. Indirect Resource is a star that makes you think deeply alone, so loneliness or sleeplessness may visit at times. At such times, do not hold out alone; choose to see people.

What to lean on is a light, regular life. Keep the house warm, eat and sleep at the same times, and keep up a short walk every day. Sharing hospital and medication arrangements with your family brings peace of mind. Leaving your story so far in writing or recordings is also a good way to use the blessing of Eating God.

The attitude for these ten years is "slowly, warmly, with people beside you."

The flow of the Luck Pillars (大運) at a glance

This chart is thick with water and earth, while it has no wood and weak fire, so in every Luck Pillar the key to how it feels is "how much fire and wood comes in." The early 丁酉 and 丙申 are periods of finding direction as water swells, and in 乙未 wood shows its face for the first time. The brightest period is 甲午 (ages 37–46). The wood of Eating God and the fire of Direct Wealth arrive together, which makes it a good time for talent to turn into real results. Because of the Void and the Ja-O clash, substance builds up slowly, so steadiness is the key to this period. 癸巳 widens the scope of wealth but calls for keeping people problems in check, and in 辛卯 and 庚寅 wood takes root, so a gentle harvest can be expected in later life. The period that needs the most care is 壬辰 (ages 57–66). As the same stem and branch overlap, water swells the most and the Jin-Jin self-punishment and the Jin-Sul clash repeat, so it is good to prepare firmly in advance for health, changes of role and spending. None of this flow is a fixed outcome; it is like weather, and a person who dresses for the season gets through the same rain differently. Just knowing and preparing in advance will make the flow much lighter.

Inner life · religion · interests · self-growth

The grain of your inner self

Your Day Master (日干) is Im (壬) water, water that flows wide like a great river or the sea. Together with the Jin (辰) earth of the day branch and the Im-ja (壬子) of the Hour Pillar, water gathers in three streams, and the Mu-sul (戊戌) earth of the Month Pillar plays the role of an embankment beside it. The water is strong and the embankment is also firm, so there is a good chance you are someone who looks calm on the outside while inside the water level rises and falls. The first thing this chart reveals is depth. You do not show your inner self easily, and you are closer to the type that thinks alone for a long time and grows its conclusions slowly.

That the Day Pillar is the Magnificent Star (魁罡) also sets the grain of your inner life. The Magnificent Star is a star that finds compromise hard, so inside you there is a baseline that does not bend easily. The way you are quiet in ordinary times and then turn resolute when something crosses the line comes from here. Jin earth is also ground like a storehouse that holds water, the position of the Canopy Star (華蓋), so thoughts and feelings you have not told anyone pile up inside in neat layers.

A sense of stability is something you tend to get only by building it on purpose. The Twelve Life Stage of the day branch is Tomb (墓) and the year branch is Severance (絶), so rather than a feeling that your childhood foundation was solid, the sense of having leveled your own ground may be stronger. On the other hand, the Emperor (帝旺) of the Hour Pillar shows a flow in which your inner self grows firmer with age. It is a structure in which the conviction "I am enough as I am" settles in as you approach later life.

To use a metaphor, it is a deep well surrounded on all sides by earthen walls. The water is clear and deep, but if sunlight and wind are lacking it stagnates and grows heavy. This chart has no Wood (木) and only one point of Fire (火), so consciously looking after the channels that let the mind flow outward, and its warmth, changes your inner weather the most.

Faith and spirituality

This chart tends to suit a reflective, intellectual spirituality better than a faith clung to with passion. A Day Master with much water is a person who keeps asking "why" to the end, and the month stem Mu (戊) earth and the year stem Sin (辛) metal symbolize discipline and teaching respectively, so your mind is also open to traditions with a system. The year stem Sin metal is Direct Resource (正印), the star of learning and teachers. Think of belief as something that comes to you as understanding accumulates rather than as a wave of emotion.

That the Canopy Star (華蓋) sits on the day branch is a sign of a deep tie to spirituality. The Canopy Star points at once to religion, philosophy, art and solitude, so at some periods time alone may become your greatest teacher. However, accepting a doctrine one hundred percent may not suit you well. That is because the Magnificent Star temperament says, "I believe once I am convinced."

So the direction I recommend is a place where you study one tradition deeply but questions are allowed. Practices you confirm through direct experience, such as Zen (禪) or vipassana, or groups that read scripture through discussion, suit you. If you need a community, one that is small and where conversation goes back and forth is better. In a place that is large and puts ritual first, there is a good chance you will soon keep your distance.

There are also points to watch. Because the Heaven Net (天羅) is present, belief can at times become a net that traps you. If you become too bound to a single answer, your heart actually narrows. When doubts arise, accept them as part of practice rather than as unbelief. The Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) sits in the early years, so if there was an adult or a book that guided your life from early on, it is good to look back at that current again.

Hobbies that suit you

Of head, hands and body, the side on which this chart rests most comfortably is a combination of head and hands. When water energy is strong, thoughts are many, so even a physical hobby only becomes real rest if you can get absorbed in something and let go of thinking for a while. Conversely, the Wood (木) your chart lacks can be read as meaning that tending "things that grow" fills an empty space in the heart.

So what I would recommend first is growing plants and a vegetable patch, and walking and hiking. Watering a young stem is the most natural way to use the power that Im water has. When strong water raises a tree, the overflowing water level comes down, and the tree also becomes fuel to start a fire. Walking a forest path or along the water is more than a change of mood; it is an action that balances the chart.

As hobbies for the hands, work in which you watch the process of a material changing suits you, such as cooking, brewing coffee, pottery and woodworking23. Hobbies that use fire are especially good. Because the Useful God (用神) is Fire (火), time close to fire, such as a kiln, a brazier, a campfire or open-flame cooking, warms your energy. If your body grows heavy in winter or on rainy days, just cooking warm food yourself helps a great deal.

As hobbies for resting the head, reading, studying history or philosophy, and thinking games such as baduk (go) or chess suit you. However, if you do only these, your thoughts pool even deeper, so mix in a hobby where you meet people once or twice a week. With Red Glamour (紅艷殺) present, you have a charm that draws people, so you often find unexpected life in settings where tastes are shared, such as cooking groups, wine or exhibition visits.

Creative talent

In this chart, creative talent appears in a somewhat unusual way. For an Im water Day Master, the stars of expression, the Output stars (食傷), are Wood (木), and there is no Wood in the natal chart. So rather than a talent for pouring out thoughts on the spot, it is closer to a talent for holding something a long time and then giving it form all at once. You are the author type: a person of few words, but deep when you do speak; someone who plans for a long time and then presents a finished work.

Writing looks like the path that suits you bestM6. The Direct Resource of the year stem Sin metal supports a feel for scholarship and language, and the Canopy Star lends force to writing that carries reflection, philosophical essays, poetry and deep narrative. Rather than sentences that flow like water, sentences in which each line has settled to the bottom are the voice of this chart. Starting in a diary or private notebook and gradually making things public is the order with the least burden.

In the visual arts, restrained media suit you, such as painting in heavy tones, black-and-white photography and printmaking24. In music, rather than showy stage performance, an instrument you dig into deeply alone, such as piano or cello, or composition, suits you. Red Glamour stands for sensual charm and aesthetic sensitivity, so you tend to have a good eye and ear for reading the mood of a melody or a color.

Performance or improvised expression may feel relatively difficult. Having no Wood means it takes time to open the channel of expression, so feeling awkward at first is normal. At such times, start within a set framework. Copying works, transcribing texts, or writing on a set theme opens the door. When you enter years of fire, a period may come when the spark of creation revives, so at that time take out the practice pieces you have stored up.

The direction of growth

What this chart most needs to learn over a lifetime is "how to let things flow out." Because water is strong and earth has built an embankment, the power to gather inward and to keep is sufficient. What is lacking is the power to send out and to share. With Wood empty, practicing turning thoughts into words, actions and works becomes the center of growth.

The Useful God, Fire (火), is also a Wealth star (財星), so growth overlaps with the direction of producing results in real life. Do not try to start only after organizing everything perfectly in your head; start small and build up experiences of confirming results with your own eyes. This chart is a structure in which a sense of stability actually grows when you connect what you know to reality. Meeting people and forming warm relationships is also training that builds up fire.

Looking at the flow of luck, there is a period when the Luck Pillars continue in the southern direction of fire. On the road through Jeong-yu, Byeong-sin and Eul-mi to Gap-o, wood and fire come in. When the time comes for the wood and fire that the natal chart lacked to be filled in by the Luck Pillars, there is a good chance it will be a period when what you have held for a long time begins to move. Whatever Luck Pillar you are in now, it is wise to store up learning and practice pieces for that period.

The years 2026 Byeong-o (丙午) and 2027 Jeong-mi (丁未) are years in which fire energy stands out, so I read them as years to start plans you have put off or to open your heart. The Tomb (墓) of the day branch also stands for putting things in order and finishing, so the work of tidying old relationships and habits becomes the foundation of a new start. The Emperor of later life is the position that, like a reward for this whole process, promises a confidence that has ripened firmly.

Inner conflict and its patterns

The most visible tension is the clash (沖) between Jin (辰) of the day branch and Sul (戌) of the month branch. It is the shape of two grounds colliding and shaking, so your mind often wavers between what you want to do and what you have to do, between the free self and the responsible self. The Mu earth of the month stem and month branch is also an Officer star (官星) that puts pressure on the Day Master, adding the feeling of duties and expectations pressing on your shoulders. A pattern easily appears in which you are composed on the outside but inside you hold out for a long time and then suddenly wear out.

With Sharp Edge (羊刃) and the Magnificent Star together, the edge of your pride is sharp too. You may endure in ordinary times and then, on reaching your limit, explode by cutting off a relationship all at once. Yin Mis-alignment (陰錯殺) describes a tendency to fall out of step in romance or close relationships, and the Widow Star (寡宿) points to a habit of closing the door of your heart on the grounds that being alone is more comfortable. The charm of Red Glamour and the solitude of the Widow Star collide within one person, so the contradiction of wanting to get close while keeping your distance may arise.

The direction of healing comes together in three things. First, the habit of saying something small before it piles up. Just bringing out one sentence, "I'm a little worn out," before you hit your limit reduces explosions. Second, creating a regular routine that steadies the shaking of the ground. Third, entrusting part of your heart to one or two trustworthy people, that is, the advisers or mentors the Heavenly Noble symbolizes.

There is no position in the natal chart that falls on the Void, so your unease is closer to the unease of full things colliding than the unease of emptiness. Solving it by letting things flow suits you better than solving it by emptying. Approach it in the spirit of digging a small ditch from a blocked well.

Meditation and self-care that suit you

This chart suits an arrangement in which solitary practice is the base and a small group occasionally plays a supporting role. A person with strong water may sink deeper into heavy thought during still meditation, so rather than insisting only on sitting completely still, I recommend methods that mix in movement. Walking meditation, tai chi, the slow flow of yoga, and walks with breathing practice are good starting points.

The closer to nature the place, the better. A park with trees, a forest path and a sunny window are ideal. Because wood and fire are lacking, a short meditation in the morning sunlight is especially effective, and sitting alone for a long time in the dark of night may actually weigh your energy down. If you live in a city, start with a morning walk of about 20 minutes before work.

In caring for the body, warmth is the key. Cut down on cold food and late-night eating, and warm your lower body and belly with warm tea or broth and half-body baths. Because it is a structure in which water and earth are entangled, the digestive system, kidneys and swelling may become weak points, so it is important not to let overwork and lack of sleep accumulate. Think of the habit of ignoring the signals your body sends as your greatest enemy.

For care of the mind, writing meditation, that is, a short journal written every day, suits you well. It becomes a ditch that lets accumulating feelings flow out onto paper. Once or twice a month, share your heart over a quiet conversation or a meal with someone you trust. It is fine if it feels awkward at first. All of this will become small waterways that help your deep water flow clear.

The big picture: the flow of a lifetime

The story your chart tells

If this chart were read as a book, it would be close to the story of a great river that grows deep once, passes a village with lights, and goes out to the sea. The Day Master (日干) is Im (壬) water. It is large, deep water, but the Sul (戌土) earth of the month branch and the Jin (辰土) earth of the day branch collide with each other, and earth stands thickly around it. It is a composition in which the water wants to flow and the earth wants to hold it in. So the narrative of childhood takes a shape that seems to sit still and quiet, and then from some point the waterway opens and it picks up speed. However, this is a tendency this chart carries, not a fixed plot.

The chart has no Wood (木) and only one point of Fire (火). What makes water useful is raising trees and lighting fires, and in the natal chart those materials are scarce. But each time a Luck Pillar turns, the wood and fire that were lacking come in one or two at a time. Like a late spring rain soaking into dry, hard ground, there is a good chance the color of the story turns noticeably warmer from around thirty into the forties. Your narrative is a book that is "heavy at first and bright later." So there is no need to read the ending down in advance just because the early part is slow.

The brightest period and the most demanding period

If the four positions of the chart are compared to the four seasons of life, later life is the brightest27. The Emperor (帝旺) of the hour branch is the position, among the Twelve Life Stages, where energy is fullest. As you age, your judgment and presence grow firmer, and younger generations or your children may treat you as a pillar to lean on. The Cap & Sash (冠帶) of the month branch in young adulthood is also a good position. It is the time when you first put on proper dress and go out into society, so there is a tendency to gain strength in things that take on form, such as study, qualifications and your first title. The Officer Patron (官貴人) sits here as well.

By contrast, the periods that demand the most are the early years and middle age. The Severance (絶) of the year branch is a position with thin roots, so in childhood your surroundings may not have given you solid support, or you may have had to grow up early on your own. Still, the Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) sits in this position, so there is a good chance there was an adult or teacher who reached out a hand at the decisive moment. The Tomb (墓) of the day branch is a position that stores deeply and swallows things inward. In middle age it is easy to put away feelings or burdens alone and let them pile up, so in this period I recommend deliberately creating a channel for bringing out what is on your mind. The Felicity Patron (福星貴人) is in this position, so it is a structure in which, as long as you bring things out, they come back as blessings.

Three values your life moves toward

The first is depth. The Tomb of the day branch and the Magnificent Star (魁罡) show a temperament that digs one well to the end rather than skimming the surface. There is a tendency to be most at ease when holding on to one field for a long time and building a grammar of your own25. The Magnificent Star also means judgment is straight and compromise is rare, so depth is both this chart's temperament and its weapon.

The second is independence and initiative. Im water is strong and there is one more of the same Im water in the Hour Pillar, so rather than staying long in a frame others have built, you have a strong wish to cut your own waterway26. Because the Seven Killings (偏官) of the month stem Mu (戊土) earth constantly presses you to "take responsibility," you easily become someone who wants freedom yet cannot run away from duty. This tension is what makes you solid.

The third is expression and warmth. The Useful God (用神) is Fire (火). Fire is wealth and at the same time human warmth, the light you show to the world. The more you bring out what has piled up in your heart as words, writing, skill or works, the more the blocked water begins to flow. Your life leans toward starting from a quiet depth and moving toward showing itself.

The great task to resolve in this life

If you hold this chart up as a mirror of returning light (回光返照), the great task to resolve in this life falls into two main strands. Please read it as a promise you made to yourself rather than a verdict of good or bad fortune.

One is the clash (沖) between the day branch Jin earth and the month branch Sul earth, that is, the Jin-Sul clash (辰戌沖). Inside, the voice of responsibility that says "this is how you must live" collides with the voice that says "I want to go my own way." When this clash shakes hard, it usually appears in the form of changes in your residence, your work or close relationships. The prescription is the habit of not making big decisions on days when emotions are running high, and leaving them for as long as it takes one season to change. And rather than trying to pick one of responsibility and freedom, try to resolve it by designing for yourself the way you take on responsibility.

The other is the question of the empty Wood and the weak Fire. When there is much water and no tree, thought may deepen without leading to fruit. The habit of moving your hands first, even a little, after making a plan, that is, deliberately cultivating the energy of the Output stars (食傷), is the long-term inner work. Walking steadily, writing, and trying to teach others what you have learned are good practice.

Interestingly, O (午) and Mi (未), the Void (空亡) branches of the natal chart, are not in the chart. Those empty places come in through the Luck Pillars as 乙未 after age 27 and 甲午 after age 37. It is a period when places that were empty for a long time are filled, so what you will plant then is the heart of this task.

The great gift your life gives

The first to name is the auspicious stars (吉星). The Heavenly Noble sits in the early-years position, the Officer Patron (天官貴人) in the young-adulthood position, and the Felicity Patron in the middle-age position, one each. It is as if a person to guide you had been placed separately for each period. In childhood there is a tendency for help from adults and teachers, when you go out into society recognition within organizations and institutions, and in middle age the blessings of daily life to follow. Added to this, Heaven Virtue Harmony (天德合) and Moon Virtue Harmony (月德合) act as a cushion that lets you step aside from great crises. This is not a chart that has the Three Wonders (三奇) pattern in the strict sense. Still, the fact that the Heavenly Noble, Heaven Virtue and Moon Virtue are gathered on one board forms a grain of protection similar to the Three Wonders.

The second gift is the flow of the Useful God, Fire (火). Looking at the Luck Pillars, a heavenly stem of fire comes in early, with 丁酉 at age 7 and 丙申 at age 17, and fire lies in the earthly branches with 甲午 at age 37 and 癸巳 at age 47. The 甲午 Luck Pillar in particular has a structure in which wood kindles fire, so there is a good chance it will be the chart's golden age, when the lacking wood and fire are filled all at once. You will probably also feel the momentum of Salary and Horse (祿馬), in which the horses of wealth and opportunity run, most closely in this period. This year, 2026 Byeong-o (丙午), is also a year in which the fire of the Useful God comes in, so it is a year in which there may be movement in wealth and relationships.

Let me lay the big picture of life over the Korean life cycle. Your twenties are the time of establishing yourself, building your foundation and qualifications within the 丙申 Luck Pillar. Your thirties are the time of independence, opening your own path as you move from 乙未 to 甲午. Your forties are the time of stability, bearing fruit as 甲午 and 癸巳 follow one another. Your fifties are returning light, the time of looking back on the life you have come through and turning the light inward, and your sixties are gathering in, the time of meeting the same energy as your Day Pillar in the Im-jin (壬辰) Luck Pillar, returning to your original self and bringing in the harvest.

To you: one word

To you, having read this far, let me speak as if we were sitting across from each other over a cup of tea. This chart has heavy earth, deep water and empty places. But before it is a list of shortcomings, it is the grain of the road you have walked. The moments when you had to become an adult early, the words you swallowed inside, the time you endured alone: all of it has become an asset under the name of depth. When the Luck Pillars turn and fire and wood come in, that deep water will at last begin to raise something.

There is no need to hurry. The seasons come, and the people you need tend to appear in time. But recognizing and taking that hand is up to you. If you choose just one thing today, I encourage you to bring one thing that has piled up in your heart out into the open, in writing or in speech.

Saju does not decide fate; it is a map for living well.

04The reading against the record

The numbers match the badges in the text above. The upper line is what the reading said; the lower line is the documented fact.

1
This movement often shows up as a major change of direction, a move, or a change of job
He changed style again and again: the Blue Period (1901–1904), the Rose Period (1904–1906), Cubism (from 1907), Neoclassicism (from 1918). His working base moved from Barcelona to Paris, and after 1946 to Antibes, Vallauris, Cannes, Vauvenargues and Mougins.
2
from Gap-o (甲午) at age 37 through Gye-sa (癸巳) at age 47, the energy of fire draws near
This span is 1917–1936. Parade (1917), the exclusive arrangement with the dealer Paul Rosenberg (1918), the purchase of the Château de Boisgeloup (1930) and the major retrospective at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris (1932) all fall within these twenty years.
3
your mind tends to become clear from late evening into the middle of the night
His habit of painting at night is recorded in several memoirs. The best-known account is from 1902 in Paris, when he shared one room with Max Jacob: Jacob slept at night, and Picasso slept by day and painted through the night.
4
in your youth there is strength for qualifications, titles, and achievements to follow relatively quickly
Science and Charity (1897), painted at fifteen, received an honorable mention at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid and a gold medal at the provincial exhibition in Málaga. In 1901, at nineteen, he showed at Ambroise Vollard's gallery in Paris.
5
thanks to the Friend and Rob Wealth, your loyalty to colleagues and friends runs deep
From 1908 to 1914 he and Georges Braque visited each other's studios often and built Cubism together. In those years their paintings were at times hard to tell apart.
6
Even in later life your mental strength and will do not wither; rather, the flow is one in which your own world grows firmer with age
At 86, between 16 March and 5 October 1968, in under seven months, he completed 347 etchings (the 347 Suite).
7
you may have often moved house, changed schools, or gone through changes in environment, or encountered the outside world early
In 1891, at ten, he left Málaga for A Coruña in Galicia and went to school there; in 1895 he moved again, to Barcelona. He had changed cities twice before he was fourteen.
8
You are likely to gain strength on paths that involve exams, certificates, and official evaluations
In September 1895 he took the entrance exam for the advanced class at La Llotja, the Barcelona school of fine arts, finishing in one day a test that allowed a month, and was admitted. In 1897 he also entered the Royal Academy of San Fernando in Madrid.
9
A decision to turn the path of your job or studies once to the side actually lets you breathe
In 1898 he left the San Fernando academy and stayed in Horta de Sant Joan, the Catalan mountain village of his friend Manuel Pallarès. He later said that everything he knew he had learned in Horta.
10
toward later life, rather than losing strength, your own color actually becomes more vivid
In 1970 the Papal Palace in Avignon showed some 160 paintings and 45 drawings he had made in 1969–1970. In May 1973, just after his death, the same venue opened a show of 201 paintings from 1970–1972 that he had selected himself.
11
On the other hand, sitting for a long time in large group lectures may be less efficient
He entered the Royal Academy in Madrid in 1897 but disliked formal instruction, soon stopped attending classes, and chose to look at the old masters in the Prado instead.
12
people with practical sense and warmth, in other words, hands-on people with fire energy
Dealers connected his work to the market. Ambroise Vollard gave him his first Paris show in 1901, Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler signed an exclusive contract with him in December 1912, and Paul Rosenberg represented him exclusively from 1918.
13
They are the kind who explain well and connect people well
The poet Guillaume Apollinaire defended the new painting in print with The Cubist Painters (1913), and the poet André Salmon organized the 1916 exhibition where Les Demoiselles d'Avignon was first shown.
14
The Gap-o (甲午) Luck Pillar at ages 37–46 is the best stretch
This Luck Pillar is 1917–1926. He designed for the Ballets Russes (Parade 1917, Le Tricorne 1919, Pulcinella 1920), took a studio and apartment on rue La Boétie in Paris in 1918, and painted Three Musicians in 1921.
15
this easily becomes a period in which there is much you want to do but your surroundings keep changing
This Luck Pillar is 1897–1906: Madrid (1897), Horta (1898), Barcelona, then repeated trips between Paris and Barcelona from 1900 until he settled at the Bateau-Lavoir in Paris in 1904.
16
a chance of finding opportunity in choices that take you outward, such as study abroad or relocation
He first went to Paris in 1900, when a painting of his hung in the Spanish pavilion of the Exposition Universelle, and the next year his show at Vollard's gallery put his name before the Paris art world.
17
Expressiveness, planning ability and a way with words come alive, and there is a tendency to want to raise your own voice
This Luck Pillar is 1907–1916. Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), Cubism with Braque from 1908, and collage and papier collé in 1912 all fall within these ten years.
18
there may be scenes of collision with the values formed in childhood or the expectations of those above you
In Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) he broke the perspective and figure drawing he had learned at the academies. Even close painter friends were taken aback by the picture.
19
you may feel that recognition does not come back as quickly as you hoped
After its completion in 1907 Les Demoiselles d'Avignon stayed in his studio and was first shown publicly only in July 1916, at the Salon d'Antin, where it was still judged immoral.
20
there is a good chance you will strongly feel things loosening and room to breathe opening up
In 1918 Paul Rosenberg became his dealer and found him a studio and apartment on two floors of rue La Boétie, next to his own gallery. He lived there until 1937.
21
Making money by moving outward, investment, business expansion and big deals easily become the themes of this period
This Luck Pillar is 1927–1936. In 1930 he bought the Château de Boisgeloup in Normandy and turned a stable into a sculpture studio; the same year Vollard commissioned the 100 etchings of the Vollard Suite; in 1932 he held a major retrospective at the Galerie Georges Petit.
22
This can be a period in which the heaviness of the earlier Luck Pillars becomes much lighter
This Luck Pillar is 1947–1956. After Guernica (1937) and occupied Paris he moved to the Mediterranean, began making ceramics at the Madoura workshop in Vallauris in 1947, and drew the dove for the 1949 peace congress poster.
23
work in which you watch the process of a material changing suits you, such as cooking, brewing coffee, pottery and woodworking
From 1947 to 1971 he made thousands of ceramic pieces, plates, vases and pitchers among them, fired in the kilns of the Madoura workshop in Vallauris.
24
restrained media suit you, such as painting in heavy tones, black-and-white photography and printmaking
There is the Blue Period (1901–1904), when he held the canvas to a single blue, and Guernica is painted only in black, white and grey. In printmaking he left thousands of prints over his life, including the Vollard Suite and the 347 Suite.
25
There is a tendency to be most at ease when holding on to one field for a long time and building a grammar of your own
He kept painting from The Picador (1889), made at about eight, until his death at ninety-one, and with Braque he created a new grammar of painting, Cubism.
26
rather than staying long in a frame others have built, you have a strong wish to cut your own waterway
He stayed long at neither La Llotja nor San Fernando, and instead of the academic painter's path set by the Spanish art world of his day, he worked in Paris on his own terms.
27
If the four positions of the chart are compared to the four seasons of life, later life is the brightest
A major retrospective was held at the Grand Palais and Petit Palais in Paris in 1966, and in 1971, for his ninetieth birthday, his works hung in the Grande Galerie of the Louvre. It was a rare honour for a living artist; the first had been Georges Braque in 1961.

Where it missed

Showing only the hits would make this an advertisement, not evidence. Below are passages where the same reading was plainly wrong. In the text they are not hazed; they are marked with a dotted line.

M1
Even when the stories in your heart are rich, there are times you get stuck in the process of moving them into speech, writing, or a work
Missed. His lifetime output is estimated at around 50,000 works: roughly 1,900 paintings, more than 1,200 sculptures, 2,880 ceramics, some 12,000 drawings, plus prints. This is far from a person whose expression was blocked.
M2
Rather than a talent that shines early, you are a late bloomer whose depth turns into trust as time goes on
Missed. A painting he made at fifteen won an honorable mention at the national exhibition and a gold medal at a provincial one, and he had a Paris show at nineteen. He was a textbook prodigy. Passage 4 of the same reading is the one that fits.
M3
rather than free art, the strength to last a long time comes out in specialist areas with a clear framework
Missed. He was a painter and sculptor all his life and had nothing to do with fields like engineering, medicine or administration.
M4
You draw strength from positions backed by the name of an organization and by qualifications
Missed. He did not finish art school and was never employed by any organization; he was an independent artist. In 1936 the Republican government named him honorary director of the Prado, but he never took up the post.
M5
Work that deals deeply with rules and numbers and catches errors under pressure
Missed. This assumes Korea's licensing system (licensed tax accountant, certified public accountant), which cannot apply to someone born in Spain in 1881. The engine wrote it with a Korean user in mind.
M6
Writing looks like the path that suits you best
Mixed. His path was painting. He did, however, start writing poetry in 1935 and left a substantial body of poems, and in 1941 he wrote a play, Desire Caught by the Tail.

05What this report does not claim

This is a post-hoc comparison. We picked the passages that fit a life we already know. It does not mean that someone handed these eight characters in 1881 could have said he would go to Paris and invent Cubism.

The misses are not small. The reading pictured someone whose channel of expression is narrow, who blooms late, and who draws strength from organizations and qualifications. He won prizes at fifteen, left around 50,000 works, and belonged to no organization. Section 04 lists six misses, and they are not hazed in the text. The haze is there to draw the eye to the compared passages, not to hide anything; turn off the switch and the full text appears as it is.

Charts with the same structure are common. A chart with heavy Water and heavy Officer stars is not rare, and most people who have one never became painters or went to Paris.

The day pillar itself depends on a convention. As section 02 explains, under the early Rat hour convention the day pillar becomes 癸巳, and a different reading would follow. The recorded time is the birth certificate's "a quarter past eleven at night", rated Rodden AA.

Health, death, private life and family relationships are not covered. The passages in the text on those subjects carry no match marks. Using a real person's chart to discuss illness, death, marriage or love affairs has neither a basis nor any decency.

What can be reproduced is the calculation. The time correction, the stems and branches, the Luck Pillar ages and the conditions under which each symbolic star applies: anyone using the same inputs and the same convention gets the same results. What comes after that is interpretation.

OrientellerThe same engine reads your eight characters

The text above was not written specially for this page. It is exactly what Orienteller's in-depth reading produced when given one chart. The same engine takes a date, time and place of birth and writes to the same depth.

Before that, it gets the time right. It corrects for daylight saving time, longitude and the equation of time, judges the 節氣 (solar terms) in a separate frame, and tells you how many minutes remain to the nearest double-hour boundary. If one of the eight characters is wrong, the reading of the other seven goes wrong with it.

Saju is not a tool that tells a fixed future. It is an old language for reading the arrangement of a person's temperament and the grain of the times they move through. Orienteller's work is to translate that language accurately.
