甲戌 丁丑 甲申 丙寅 · Elvis Presley (1935–1977)
We put this chart into Orienteller's in-depth reading engine. We gave it no name, no year of birth and no place of birth. Eight characters and the five-element counts were all it had. Below, the text it produced sits side by side with his career as the recordings, films, Army service and chart records document it.
When a Saju reading seems accurate, there are usually two possible reasons. Either it really was accurate, or the reader already knew the answer. Unless the second possibility is ruled out, any comparison that follows means nothing. So we state the conditions of generation first.

Before generating, we searched all 8 prompts for 1935, Tupelo,
투펠로, Presley, 프레슬리, Elvis, 엘비스,
Memphis, 멤피스, Graceland and 그레이스랜드,
and confirmed there was not a single hit. That is why the reading describes its Luck Pillars by age only,
with no years. We added the years afterwards.
The text itself shows that the engine did not know the year. In the passage on the third Luck Pillar it assumed a birth year of 1994, the most recent Gap Sul (甲戌) year. The real year is 1935, sixty years earlier. We list that passage among the misses in section 04.
To be clear, this is a post-hoc comparison. We already know his career, and we picked the passages that fit it. It is not a prediction. Section 05 below says more about this limit.
Mississippi already had standard time in 1935. The US railways adopted standard time in
November 1883, and the Standard Time Act made the zones law in 1918. Mississippi kept Central Standard
Time (CST, UTC−6), and there was no daylight saving time in January. So the 04:35 on the birth
certificate is not Tupelo's local mean time; it is standard time referenced to the 90° W meridian.
| Step | Time | Shift | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Birth certificate | 1935-01-08 04:35:00 | — | CST (UTC−6) |
| Universal time (UTC) | 1935-01-08 10:35:00 | +6 h | Zone offset removed |
| Local mean time | 1935-01-08 04:40:12 | +5.2 min | Longitude 88.7° W ÷ 15 (east of the 90° W meridian) |
| True solar time | 1935-01-08 04:34:17 | −5.9 min | Equation of time (early January) |
| 節氣 (solar term) frame | 1935-01-08 18:35:00 | +8 h | For the year and month pillar boundaries |
Tupelo lies 1.3° east of the zone meridian, so the sun crosses it 5.2 minutes earlier, and the equation of time in early January is −5.9 minutes. The two almost cancel, leaving a net shift of only −0.7 minutes. 寅時 runs from 03:00 to 05:00, and the corrected 04:34 falls inside it. The margin to the 05:00 boundary is 25.7 minutes.
The year and month pillars are set by the solar terms. That year 小寒 fell on January 6 and 立春 on February 5 (at 120° E), so January 8 is still the Gap Sul (甲戌) year and the Jeong Chuk (丁丑) month, a little over two days after 小寒.
What if it was 3:30? The birth certificate says 04:35, but in 1972 he told an astrologer that he was born at 3:30 in the morning. Corrected the same way, that gives a true solar time of 03:29, which is also 寅時, 29.3 minutes from the 03:00 boundary. Whichever time you follow, the hour pillar is 丙寅, and none of the eight characters changes.
Below is the text Orienteller's in-depth reading actually produced for this chart, translated from the Korean original. The engine writes in Korean; the translation follows it sentence by sentence and adds nothing. Edits to the Korean original, if any, are limited to the form of address produced by the blank name field and obvious typos; the footer gives the exact count. Only the passages confirmed by the record are left sharp; the rest is hazed. To read the whole text, turn off the switch below.
Your chart has the year pillar (年柱) Gap Sul (甲戌), the month pillar (月柱) Jeong Chuk (丁丑), the day pillar (日柱) Gap Sin (甲申) and the hour pillar (時柱) Byeong In (丙寅). The year pillar is Yang Wood (陽木) Gap sitting on Sul earth (戌土), the Dog of the year, and it shows your childhood and the environment that forms your roots. In the month pillar, Yin Fire (陰火) Jeong rests on Chuk earth (丑土), the Ox of the month. This is the stage of society in young adulthood and the place where your temperament for work shows. The day pillar is the central pillar that points to you yourself. The Yang Wood Gap (甲) Day Master (日干) sits on Sin metal (申金), the Monkey. Finally, the hour pillar is Yang Fire (陽火) Byeong meeting In wood (寅木), the Tiger, and it lights up your later years and the fruit you leave behind.
If the whole impression is drawn as a single scene, it looks like this. One large tree standing straight on hard ground at the threshold of winter, and above it a morning sun and a campfire. Gap wood is a great tree reaching for the sky, Jeong fire (丁火) is the lamp beside it that lights the dark, and Byeong fire (丙火) is the sun rising above the tree. Wood and fire get along, so this is a structure in which expressiveness and talent flow naturally outward.
The Sin metal in the day branch, however, keeps its edge sharp beside the tree like an axe. This metal (金) is also the pressure that trims you and your sense of responsibility. The In wood of the hour pillar is a dependable root that gives you strength in later life. On the outside you look upright and composed, but inside, a fire that never stops burning sits together with a sharpness that wants to temper itself.
The Sul earth and Chuk earth of the year and month pillars act as storehouses of earth. The central task of this chart is when to take out and use the seeds of wealth and opportunity stored inside them. The readings that follow will go through that flow one step at a time.
The distribution of the five elements is three Wood (木), two Fire (火), two Earth (土), one Metal (金) and no Water (水). The most prominent energy is Wood, and the empty one is Water. The Day Master Gap wood is surrounded by Wood of its own kind and by energy that feeds the fire, so it is on the strong (身強) side. You are a person with ample strength and the drive to push forward, but it also means the strength gathers on one side and easily turns into stubbornness or excess.
The Useful God (用神) is Earth (土). When a tree grows too thick, earth has to hold down its roots and turn growth into fruit. Earth corresponds to the Wealth stars (財星), so practical sense, planning, harvest and the ability to handle money are the counterweight of this chart. Put simply, deciding "where to plant the strength you have and what to harvest with it" is what it means to use the Useful God.
The Luck Pillars (大運) run forward: Mu In (戊寅) in your teens, Gi Myo (己卯) in your twenties, Gyeong Jin (庚辰) in your thirties, Sin Sa (辛巳) in your forties, Im O (壬午) in your fifties and Gye Mi (癸未) in your sixties. Your teens and twenties bring earth in the heavenly stems but wood in the branches, so they read as a time when talent shows but takes a while to bear fruit in reality. In your thirties, Gyeong Jin brings metal and earth together and the flow settles. It is a time when luck opens toward trimming, taking responsibility and building structure.
In your forties, Sin Sa gives metal strength to temper the Day Master, and in your fifties, Im O brings the missing water into the heavenly stems. That is likely to be a time when flexibility of mind and wisdom grow. In your sixties, Gye Mi brings earth again and becomes a season of stability and putting things in order. Rather than expecting one big change, it is better to see this as a curve that grows one step firmer each time the luck changes.
The Gap Sin (甲申) day pillar is a large tree standing beside a rocky mountain and iron. The Day Master Gap wood has a nature that stands straight and wants to grow upward, and the Sin metal in the day branch hands that tree discipline and challenge in the manner of Direct Officer and Seven Killings. So you are a person who holds both the wish to stretch out freely and the wish to keep yourself in check.
At the core of Sin metal lies Gyeong metal (庚金). Just as an axe trims a tree into lumber, you tend to grow into a useful shape precisely when you are under pressure or put to the test1. When life is only comfortable your direction blurs, and you find your center when you are given the right amount of responsibility. You look composed and principled on the outside, but inside you keep checking, "Am I on the right path?"
Sin metal is also a character that carries the energy of the Travel Star (驛馬). You tend to feel stifled when tied to one place for long, and to draw energy from moving or from new surroundings. Like a great tree that sends its roots deep while its branches spread in every direction, the balance between settling and moving is your lifelong task.
The fact that the day branch sits in the place of Severance (絶) has to be read with care. Severance is not an end but "the place where things return to seed." Things may break off and start again often, but in proportion your ability to set up a new game is large. When you have to fold something halfway, do not blame yourself; take it as "I pruned this branch." Practicing not to turn the blade of your pride only inward will make you more generous.
Your day usually starts its engine in the morningM1. With Byeong fire up in the hour pillar and In wood holding it up, your head is clear and your body moves lightly in the morning. Conversely, your energy tends to sink once the sun goes down, so it is better to place important decisions and creative work in the daytime.
Your taste in surroundings runs to open places with room to breathe. Just as a great tree cannot grow in a narrow pot, if a stuffy, closed office or suffocating relationships go on for long, your body may send the signal first. Your condition rises where nature is in view: a seat by the window, a walking path, a space with plants.
What you reach for is plans, goals and things to learn. People with a lot of wood are always thinking about "what to grow next." But with two Fires, your thoughts are quick and your words sometimes run ahead, so writing what you have to do where you can see it keeps your energy from scattering. A single tidy desk does a great deal for your concentration.
You tire easily when the same task repeats and you cannot find meaning in it. And with no water energy, you tend to keep postponing rest and drinking enough water. It is easy to brush off the fatigue your body sends with "I'm still fine." Once a day, consciously put in a short pause: stop working, drink some water or close your eyes. Like roots straining to hold on in dry ground, do not let invisible wear pile up.
When pressure comes, you reach for principles first. Gap wood has an upright character and there is metal in the day branch, so you have a strong tendency to judge by "what is right" rather than by feelings. When making decisions, too, you set a direction quickly and then take responsibility. Rather than dragging things out indecisively, you are someone who pushes ahead once you decide.
In conflict, the momentum of strong wood rises. Your words may come out blunt, or you may appear unwilling to yield. To the other person it can feel like a great tree standing its ground and refusing to step aside. At such times, the habit of sleeping on it rather than answering right away helps. Since earth is the Useful God, the attitude of "first putting it down on the ground and calculating realistically" is the key to resolving conflict.
Your eye for reading people is quite sharp. The energy of Seven Killings in the day branch meets the expressiveness of fire, so you look at a person's attitude and consistency before their words. You tend to notice bluster or shifting stories early. But if you define people by first impressions, misunderstandings can arise later, so keep your opinion to yourself and hold off a little on judgment.
When pressure peaks, you tend instead to fall silent or try to solve things alone, because asking for help feels like weakness. But this chart has the Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) in the month pillar, so there is a chance that an elder or senior will appear and reach out a hand at a decisive moment. The more serious the crisis, the better the remedy of telling one trusted person what is going on.
Your underlying nature is upright, optimistic and growth-oriented. Gap wood is the first energy to sprout among the ten stems, so it loves new beginnings and pioneering. In the days of a young, still-unshaped tree, conviction that "this will work" and curiosity come first, and there is an instinctive dislike of anything pressing down from above.
Add two Fires to this and the urge to express and the talent are large. This is the energy of Eating God (食神) and Hurting Officer (傷官), so you have an aptitude for revealing yourself through speech, writing, ideas and skill. Sitting still feels stifling, and you feel alive when you make something and put it out into the world. But the sharpness of Hurting Officer can cling to your words and unintentionally prick others, so you need to practice pausing a beat at the moment you use your wit.
The Twelve Life Stage of the year pillar Gap Sul is Nurture (養). There are traces of growing slowly under protection in childhood, and thanks to that, goodness and ease lie at your base. The Cap & Sash (冠帶) of the month branch is the place of straightening your clothes as you first step into society, and the tendency to value face and dignity comes from here. The way you quietly care about how you look to others has the same root.
In sum, the raw you is "a person who is upright, bright and wants to move forward." It is a structure that grows firmer as experience accumulates and learns flexibility through failure. If you lay down the earth of reality without losing your first pure passion, your innate grain blooms most beautifully.
On the outside you are a neat tree, but beneath it runs a fire that never rests. Jeong fire and Byeong fire stand side by side, so your heart is always warmed and thoughts and feelings move back and forth quickly. You may seem calm to others while your head is noisy on many days. Finding a place where this heat can settle is a major inner task.
The empty Water also affects the weather of your heart. Water is the flow of wisdom and rest that cools emotion. Without this energy, there is too little time to soothe the mind, and it is easy to dry out chewing over the past by yourself. Like a forest with no stream to wet the young stems, you are a person who has to fetch water yourself. Places such as meditation, music or a quiet waterside play the part of your inner stream.
The recurring tension arises between the pressure of "I have to do well" and the desire for freedom, "I want to live as I please." The metal in the day branch drives you on, and the fire's urge to express wants to break out of the frame. When the two collide, you may blame yourself inwardly or suddenly want to stop everything. The answer at such times is to shrink the goals. Keep only the one most important thing for now and set the rest down for a while.
One more point to note is loneliness. Because a strong person looks strong, the people around you do not notice when you actually weaken inside. With the Felicity Noble (福星貴人) in the hour pillar, there is a flow in which your heart grows more at ease and blessings come in the later part of life. Even if it is hard now, remember that "the inner weather changes like the seasons."
When you deal with people, you look first at courtesy and trust. You do not easily become flippant in relationships, and once you open your heart to someone, you tend to stay by their side for a long time. Just as shade forms under a great tree, there is something about you that people naturally want to lean on. You value promises and try hard to keep what you said.
The people you draw are realistic and steady. Since the Useful God is earth, people who are weighty and constant like the ground, with a sense for planning and running a household, support your energy. On the other hand, with people who have strong energy and stubbornness like another wood, things can get taut as neither wants to lose. With so much in common, you may connect at first, but staying together long takes a rhythm in which one side yields.
Your way of keeping distance is a quiet retreat. With people who make you uncomfortable, rather than fighting openly, you say less and draw a certain line. Because of the Seven Killings and Severance in the day branch, when your heart cools you may also end things decisively. To people close to you this silence can feel cold, so before keeping your distance, it is a good habit to say one sentence: "I need a bit of rest right now."
With the Heavenly Noble in the month pillar, there is a chance of meeting helpers such as superiors or teachers up to the middle of life. Do not let those connections slip by lightly. The expressiveness of fire also becomes a power to ease the mood with conversation and humor. If you are careful only when your words get sharp, you become someone people want to keep close. The closer the relationship, the more consciously you should look after the warmth of your expression; that is what protects long-term bonds.
Your approach to work is "set the direction first and grow it over a long time." Gap wood is a growth-type energy that grows upward, so you are strongest when the goal is clear and there is a sense of growth. Your ability shows more in new projects, planning and roles that lead people than in repetitive chores. With the talent of fire added, fields such as technology, content, education, creative work and strategy tend to suit you.
The drive that gets you started is recognition and meaning. When you can see where your work is used, your body moves first. On the other hand, the power that carries you to the end is the Useful God earth, that is, a realistic structure. If the work of putting things on the ground, such as schedules, budgets and revenue models, is weak, ideas may grow thick but fruit stay scarce. Remember that the spark starts things and the earth finishes them.
The earth of the month pillar Jeong Chuk has the energy of a storehouse of wealth, and the Officialdom (建祿) of the hour pillar is the place of standing on your own strength later on. It is a flow in which skill accumulates toward later life and your independent base grows. But under the influence of Severance in the day branch, a period may come when you change direction midway or take a break. If you do not interpret this as failure and use it as a time to regroup, it actually becomes a gain.
There are also points to watch in the flow ahead. 2026 and 2027 are years when the Life Stage is low, so building substance is better than overextending. 2028 through 2030 is a Samjae (三災) period, and in 2028 in particular it is safer not to rush a big investment or a job change. Check contracts and your health carefully and consult a trusted adviser, and it is a period you can get through. In 2030 things gradually loosen toward the auspicious side.
The first strength is upright drive. As a strong Gap wood, you have the power to carry what you set your mind on to the end, and you hold the center when those around you waver. The second is expressiveness and talent. The energy of Eating God and Hurting Officer enriches speech and ideas, giving you the ability to work out anything in your own way. The third is help from Nobles. The Heavenly Noble and Felicity Noble sit in young adulthood and later life respectively, so people and blessings tend to follow you at the moments you need them.
There are two things to watch. One is stubbornness and excess. In a chart where wood is strongest, you may go too straight in the direction you believe is right and miss the signals around you. The habit of hearing one opposing view before deciding keeps the great tree from snapping in the wind. The other is sharp words and self-blame. The energy of Hurting Officer sets a blade at the end of your words, and the metal in the day branch turns that blade inward as well. As a prescription: one breath before you speak, one walk when regret rises.
Heaven Net (天羅) sits in the Sul earth of the year pillar, so in childhood or your early years you may have felt as if trapped in a stifling frame. Read this not as destiny but as a signal that "it loosens when you go out into wider places." The more you widen your view and keep learning, the looser the net becomes.
Twelve Spirit Stars such as the Canopy Star (華蓋), the Heaven Star (天殺), the Travel Star (驛馬) and the Earth Star (地殺) also appear. This means an abundance of energy for learning, movement and new starts, so growing on the road suits you better than settling in one place. If you keep the Useful God earth by your side and put down roots in reality, all this movement turns into fruit.
By season, you are Gap wood born in the Chuk month (丑月), the tail end of winter. The outside air is cold, but Jeong fire and Byeong fire float side by side in the heavenly stems, so there is a spark ready to thaw the frozen ground. So the cold (寒) energy is not a big problem; warmth has rather settled in at the right level. Still, you may appear to bear the heat inside on your own in surroundings that look cold on the outside.
The place to look at more closely is the dry and damp (燥濕) side. There is no water at all, and fire and earth dry each other out, so an overall dry energy hangs over the chart. The Chuk earth of the month branch holds a little moisture, but the Sul earth of the year branch is parched soil. Without water, even a great tree dries from the tips of its leaves. In the body, skin, eyes, throat and airways tend to dry out, and in the mind it can show up as less room to breathe and more sensitivity.
As habits to practice, I recommend water and watersides. Drink water often throughout the day, and build routines that moisten the body, such as humidifying or moisturizing after a shower. By season, dryness increases in autumn and winter, so take particular care then. In food, moist, soft things such as black beans, seaweed, pears and tofu suit you well, and spicy and fried food adds heat, so do not overdo it.
In terms of surroundings, time walking near a river or lake, and a warm shower or foot bath before sleep, cool the heat of the mind. When the Im O Luck Pillar arrives in your fifties, the missing water comes, so until then the habit of fetching water yourself will be your stream. Remember that a small glass of water protects the long health of a great tree.
Your Day Master (日干) is Gap wood (甲木), a great tree that grows straight. Around this tree are several Ten Gods that make the loudest sound. First there is Friend (比肩). The Gap wood of the year stem and the Gap wood inside the In wood (寅木) of the hour branch are both companions of the same grain as you. Next is the energy of fire. Jeong fire (丁火) in the month stem is Hurting Officer (傷官) and Byeong fire (丙火) in the hour stem is Eating God (食神), so the power to express and produce is laid down in two layers. On top of this, the Indirect Wealth (偏財) of Sul earth (戌土) and the Direct Wealth (正財) of Chuk earth (丑土) hold things up, and Seven Killings (七殺) sits in the Sin metal (申金) of the day branch.
The quiet Ten Gods, on the other hand, are the Resource stars (印星). Direct Resource (正印) and Indirect Resource (偏印) do not show on the surface, and water (水) is hidden only very thinly inside Sin metal and Chuk earth. Rob Wealth (劫財) and Direct Officer (正官) do not appear either.
This combination resembles flames rising twice over a deep-rooted tree. Talent, a way with words and productive hands are plentiful, and practical sense is good too. But because the Resource stars that supply water are lacking, unless you look after how to rest and how to learn separately, the branches may grow thick while the inside dries out. You are likely to become someone who learns by running into things yourself, and an independence that does not wait for anyone to teach you is both a strength and a source of stubbornness.
The prescription is simple. About once a year, set aside time to learn a new field formally. Keeping a good teacher or senior close is also good. If you place a ritual of quiet rest at the end of the day (a walk by the water, a warm bath, a diary), the scattered fire energy settles. The Useful God (用神) is Earth (土), so the habit of turning ideas into money and structure is the very power that helps you.
In a group, you are often the one who speaks first and opens up the atmosphere. With Eating God and Hurting Officer together, ideas come out of your mouth first, and you are quick to put them into your hands. With Friend holding you up firmly, you are good at mixing on equal terms with colleagues and peers. You shine far more comfortably in a team where people call each other by name than in a place with a clear hierarchy2.
Hurting Officer is the star that asks of the existing frame, "Why does it have to be that way?" So you often take the role of proposing to fix old ways. The Seven Killings in the day branch adds tension to this tendency. You are someone who becomes sharper under pressure, so your concentration tends to rise in projects with deadlines or in competitive settings. Just as an iron axe trims a tree, this pressure has probably been making you into usable timber.
The stages that suit you are places for teaching, speaking and making. Lectures, content, design, planning, sales, a small business: places where talent is visible and results lead straight to money. With the Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) in the month branch, elders or patrons tend to appear and reach out a hand at every important juncture.
What to watch is the edge of your words. If Hurting Officer's wit goes too far, it can sound like criticism to others. Take a breath before saying something blunt, and make a habit of attaching one alternative after pointing out a problem. On days when you seem likely to clash with a superior, saying the conclusion briefly first reduces misunderstanding.
In a man's chart, the Wealth stars (財星) stand for the wife and father, and the Officer stars (官星) for children. Your chart has Indirect Wealth (Sul earth) in the year branch and Direct Wealth (Chuk earth) in the month branch. With the Wealth stars placed in the pillars of the early years, money, reality and your father's presence may have felt close from childhood. Practical conversation with your father may have gone well, while sharing feelings in words may have been awkward.
The Resource star that stands for the mother does not show on the surface. This does not mean the bond with your mother is thin. It may simply be that what you received was closer to unseen support than to words or protection. You may come to understand your mother's heart late, so it is better to ask after her directly and make time.
Siblings and friends are read through Friend. Since it sits in the year stem and hour branch, there is a good chance of having siblings who are like colleagues, or friends as close as siblings, at your side. With no Rob Wealth, quarrels over money are relatively rare.
Seven Killings sits in the day branch, the spouse's seat. Meanwhile the Wealth star that is the spouse star is close by in the month branch. So your spouse is likely to be capable and to have firm views of their own, and in proportion there is the tension of facing each other. The Officer star that stands for children shows only as a single Seven Killings, so the bond with a son may stand out, and strict expectations of children tend to come first. With family, practicing listening first before weighing results becomes the greatest gift.
Around you, first of all, there is a warm light. Eating God is a star of giving, so it brings gentle speech and an energy that puts people at ease. Hurting Officer adds wit and individuality on top. Like fire catching on dry firewood, there will often be moments when the people around you brighten as soon as you start talking.
Friend is another kind of charm. Someone with strong Friend does not look down from a high seat but stands shoulder to shoulder at the same eye level. So people tend to drop their guard and bring out what is on their minds. On top of that, the Wealth stars add practical sense and give the trust that you are not just smooth talk but someone who actually gets things done.
The energy of the Nobles also works. The Heavenly Noble in the month branch is the star of meeting an elder who helps in hard times. The Felicity Noble (福星貴人) in the hour pillar is the star of blessings accumulating and peace of mind growing with age. Thanks to these two stars, lasting goodwill rather than relationships seeking gain tends to gather around you.
But attraction has its shadow too. Because of the Seven Killings in the day branch, sharpness may suddenly show in close relationships, and because the Resource stars are lacking, you may swallow feelings inside and then pour them out all at once. To keep your power to draw people for a long time, express praise and thanks in words often. The small diligence of keeping agreed times turns charm into trust.
The year pillar Gap Sul (甲戌) has Friend in the heavenly stem and Indirect Wealth in the earthly branch. I read this as meaning that your childhood surroundings were an atmosphere of growing up jostling with peers, and that on the other hand a practical sense of household and money was near you from early on. You may often have been compared and in competition with siblings, cousins or neighborhood friends while still spending a lot of time together.
The Twelve Life Stage of the year branch is Nurture (養). It is the stage in which a young sprout slowly takes in nourishment from soil like a mother's womb. It is not a time of blooming brilliantly all at once, but a time of laying the foundation slowly under care. Whether your circumstances were ample or modest, you very likely learned early how to grow on your own within the conditions you were given.
Sul earth is dry, hard soil, so the values of this period tend to lean toward "I have to stand on my own" and "I have to become someone useful." The Jeong fire hidden inside it means the wish to express, and Sin metal means a mind conscious of rules and appearances. As a child, there must have been moments when you had to hold back what you wanted to say.
There is a question that helps when you look back on this time now. Ask whether what you lacked most then was recognition or rest. In a chart with thin Resource stars, you may have had little experience of leaning on someone fully. If so, saying to yourself now the words the young you wanted to hear is a good habit for recovery.
The month pillar Jeong Chuk (丁丑) has Hurting Officer in the heavenly stem and Direct Wealth in the earthly branch. In young adulthood you tend to move in the direction of showing your talent and connecting it to income3. Fields with tangible results, such as skills, creative work, planning and sales, suit you. Direct Wealth is a star of steady saving, so a way of building up suits you better than earning big at once.
The Twelve Life Stage of the month branch is Cap & Sash (冠帶). Like the stage of putting on a suit for the first time and stepping into society, it is a time with a strong urge to show yourself. The Heavenly Noble is here as well, so there is a high chance of meeting seniors or bosses who show you the way at every important point. If you do not let their advice go in one ear and out the other, trial and error decreases.
But Hurting Officer is a star that easily causes friction with the frame of an organization. In places with rigid rules, evaluations of you may be split even if you are capable. At such times, laying out your proposals in documents or data is far more persuasive than clashing in words.
Chuk earth is cold, moist winter soil, and Gye water (癸水) is hidden inside it. For a chart with two fires burning, this is a welcome sign, because it means the seeds of learning and rest are already in this pillar. If you build up qualifications or professional courses steadily in young adulthood, those seeds will sprout. In relationships with colleagues, you tend to build bonds in which you compete in skill while still trusting each other with the work.
The day pillar Gap Sin (甲申) is your center. With Seven Killings sitting in the day branch, your identity in middle age shows as someone tempered by enduring pressure. Like an axe made of iron cutting back a great tree, it is a force that sometimes hurts but in the end trims you into usable timber. Even when you meet heavy responsibilities or a difficult partner, you do not back down easily.
The Twelve Life Stage of the day branch is Severance (絶). The name is heavy, but it does not mean an end; it is closer to the point where the old is cut off and the new is conceived. So in middle age there is a chance that a turning point will come once, in which you change direction sharply or reorganize relationships. The presence of Heaven Net (天羅) also connects with this flow. When a period comes in which things feel tangled and blocked, it is good to read it as a signal not to hurry but to step back and check the structure.
Since the spouse's seat is Seven Killings, both partners' views may clash strongly in a marriage. Dividing roles is more peaceful than trying to win. The Direct Wealth of the month branch is close by as the spouse star, so you tend to form a bond with someone realistic and good at running a household.
Let us also look at the coming flow of Luck Pillars and years. 2028, the Mu Sin (戊申) year, is a year when Samjae (三災) comes in and the same character as the Sin metal of your day branch overlaps. Avoid big investments and overextension, and put your effort into health checkups and taking stock of relationships. In 2030 the flow turns toward the auspicious side. Until then, it is good to use the time for saving and strengthening the basics.
The hour pillar Byeong In (丙寅) has Eating God in the heavenly stem and Friend in the earthly branch. In later life you are likely to become someone who gives what you have and teaches. Eating God is a relaxed and generous star. So as you age, your tone tends to soften and your power to turn experience into stories deepens. In terms of work, nurturing juniors or advising, writing and lecturing, and making things by hand are suitable.
The Twelve Life Stage of the hour branch is Officialdom (建祿), the strongest position among the four pillars. It means that even in old age the strength to stand up on your own remains. The Felicity Noble placed in the hour pillar adds energy of stability and blessings to life in old age. It is a composition in which the tree that only received nourishment in its early years becomes, in later life, a great tree that casts shade.
Children are read in a man's chart through the Officer stars. In your chart the Seven Killings of the day branch is distinct, so expectation and discipline tend to come first in your relationship with children. The Eating God of the hour pillar is a buffer that softens that strictness. If you approach them by making something together rather than trying to teach, the relationship becomes much closer.
This is a chart with a confirmed birth time, so there is no need to separate two possibilities. Still, the thinness of the Resource stars continues into later life, so build the habits of rest and study into yourself early. Then what you pass on will not stop at property but become skills and stories and human warmth.
Your chart holds two auspicious stars and one inauspicious star. The auspicious stars are the Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) and the Felicity Noble (福星貴人), and the inauspicious star is Heaven Net (天羅). Added to these are the Canopy Star (華蓋殺), the Heaven Star (天殺), the Travel Star (驛馬殺) and the Earth Star (地殺) of the Twelve Spirit Stars (十二神煞). In the big picture, the helpful stars are like props set against a straight tree, and Heaven Net tends to act like a fog that occasionally blocks the view.
The Heavenly Noble stands for an elder or teacher who reaches out a hand in a crisis. The Felicity Noble is tied to the blessings of eating, resting and enjoying, that is, the sense of security that underlies life. Both stars stand facing the Gap wood (甲木) Day Master (日干), so even if you seem to be holding out alone, yours is a structure that easily receives help from people or circumstances at decisive moments.
Heaven Net is an energy in which things feel stifling, as if blocked by one layer. It may weigh more heavily when you are stuck in one thought for a long time or in a period when no exit is in sight. At such times, rather than chewing on things alone, the habit of writing your thoughts down to get them out and talking with someone trustworthy clears the fog. By season, it is good to consciously increase outdoor activity especially from late autumn to early winter, when energy closes in.
The Void (空亡) branches are O (午) and Mi (未). But these two characters are not in your natal chart (原局). So the Void does not press down on neighboring stars and weaken them, and the stars mentioned above exert their full strength. Instead, you meet the Void in time. Periods when O (午) and Mi (未) come in, namely 2026, Byeong O (丙午), and 2027, Jeong Mi (丁未), are such times. In these periods, something that seemed within reach may look empty once, or a gap may open between expectation and result. It is good not to hurry results and to set your mind on building up the process.
The year pillar is Gap Sul (甲戌). The stars that stand out in this position are the Canopy Star (華蓋殺) and Heaven Net (天羅). In the Twelve Life Stages (十二運星) it sits in Nurture (養), resembling a young stem slowly growing in warm soil. It is an auspicious position.
The Canopy Star can be compared to a jewel box with its lid closed. It is a temperament that becomes absorbed in time alone and draws strength from a quiet world such as books, pictures or imagination. As a child, you likely liked being with your peers but at some point were a child who dug into something on your own4. In the eyes of adults, you may have seemed a quiet child whose mind was hard to read.
It is also worth noting that Heaven Net hangs in this position. During your growing years, your surroundings may at some point have felt stifling, or there may have been a stretch when it was hard to spread out and do what you wanted. A household with many rules, tastes different from your peers'5, or perhaps moving house or changing schools may have weighed on your mind. But thanks to the care of Nurture (養), this energy tends to work not by breaking you down but by putting down firm roots in your heart.
No Noble (貴人) appears separately in this period. One can read this as meaning that help in childhood came not from one conspicuous person but from the atmosphere of the household or the environment as a whole. Something worth doing as you look back now is to bring out again the field you were absorbed in alone back then. The talent of the Canopy Star easily carries on into hobbies or expertise after you grow up, and what you loved as a child sometimes becomes a clue to your present direction.
The month pillar is Jeong Chuk (丁丑). This position lights up the years from your twenties to your mid-thirties, and its Twelve Life Stage is Cap & Sash (冠帶), which is auspicious. It is the energy of a young adult who has just put on the cap and takes a first step into the world, so there is a force of confidence and drive that pushes forward.
The Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) sits in this position. Your most dependable auspicious star is holding up your young adulthood. After you step into society, when things feel bleak, it can often happen that an elder such as a senior, a boss or a teacher opens the way6. If at work or in study there was a bond of which you felt, "I found my direction thanks to this person," you may read it as the working of this star. This star opens more readily to someone who asks questions first and wants to learn than to someone who stays still. Please do not regard asking for help as a weakness.
The Heaven Star (天殺) is also in the month pillar. It is the energy of things coming that you cannot do anything about, as if by the will of heaven. Plans are suddenly upended, or the flow changes because of an organization's circumstances7. In young adulthood you may have gone through an unexpected job change, a transfer between departments, or a change of environment. The way to handle this star is humility and preparation. Do not stake everything on one place; if you always keep emergency funds and a second option ready, the variables of heaven end as a shake and do not remain as a wound.
In sum, young adulthood was very likely a period when help and variables came together. When you look back, simply sending your regards to the people who helped you is a good habit for carrying on this star's blessing.
The day pillar is Gap Sin (甲申). This position is the spouse's seat, the center of the body, and it shows the direction of your work in middle age. Its Twelve Life Stage is Severance (絶), counted among the most inauspicious positions, but there is no need to be frightened by the name alone. Severance is a break, and at the same time a quiet place just before a new seed sprouts. It is apt to read it as a tendency for cycles of ending once and starting again to come often in life. But since Gap wood is placed on the hard iron of Sin metal (申金), it is also a structure in which mind and body tense up easily.
The Travel Star (驛馬殺) is here. It is the star of movement and change. Rather than staying in one place for long, there is a chance of much movement, such as business trips, moving house, changing jobs or connections abroad. With the Travel Star in the spouse's seat, time spent apart because of distance or schedules tends to arise in relationships as well. This movement is not only bad; it is often the channel through which things work out. But when the body cannot rest it tires easily, so the more often you move, the better it is to fix your hours of sleep and meals.
The period to watch is 2028, the Mu Sin (戊申) year. It is a year when Samjae (三災) comes in, the same character as the Sin (申) of your day branch overlaps, and the Twelve Life Stage also becomes Severance (絶). It means the spouse's seat, the body and the direction of work may all be touched at once. But there is no need to treat this as settled. Rather than hurrying major decisions such as a big job change, a move or a marriage, please put your paperwork, health checkups and conversations about relationships in order within 2027. If movement such as a move or relocation is inevitable, do not go against the flow; ride it with a plan. The energy of the Useful God (用神) earth (土), that is, regular meals, walking and keeping the house in order, keeps you centered in this period.
The hour pillar is Byeong In (丙寅). Its Twelve Life Stage is Officialdom (建祿), the most auspicious position. Officialdom is the strength to rise on your own and do your share, so it is highly likely to work out so that the energy of independence is alive in later life and body and mind do not collapse easily. Picture a great tree in a spring forest catching the sunlight. In (寅) is also the place where Gap wood puts down roots, so it is a structure in which the Day Master finally gains a firm foothold.
The Felicity Noble (福星貴人) is in this position. It is a star of blessing under which, as you age, there is less serious want in making a living and you become emotionally more stable. Warm energy may come back to you in your relationships with children, juniors or students, and what you have built naturally becomes a legacy that passes to the next person. It is an arrangement in which you easily become an elder respected among people in later life.
The Earth Star (地殺) is here as well. It is an energy of starting again on new ground, and it may appear in later life as moving your residence or starting new study and activities. Used well, it becomes the power to open a second path after retirement. But the more movement there is, the more the emotional distance from people close to you may grow, so the habit of talking it over fully with your family before you move is needed.
That the hour pillar holds both Officialdom and the Felicity Noble can be read as meaning that the ending of this chart is warm. This blessing does not come by itself; it grows in proportion to what you have built. Please look after your health from a young age and keep up the kindness you have shown people. Then the strength of Officialdom will return as stability in later life. Once you calmly pass through the coming Samjae period, an auspicious flow opens again, like the Nurture (養) of 2030, the Gyeong Sul (庚戌) year, so you may set your mind at ease and go one step at a time.
Your chart is a structure in which the Gap wood (甲木) Day Master (日干) stands with deep roots. It is close to a great tree standing in the middle of a yard. With as many as three Woods (木) and a strong (身強) Day Master, your basic will toward learning and your own convictions are ample. But water, the energy of Water (水) that a tree needs most, is completely absent on the surface. That means the Resource stars (印星) that nurture learning are not visible. So rather than learning soaking in by itself, things tend to flow in a way where you go and draw the water you need yourself.
That does not mean the water has dried up completely. Inside the Sin metal (申) of the day branch, Im water (壬水) is hidden, and inside the Chuk earth (丑) of the month branch, Gye water (癸水). It is like groundwater seeping deep below the ground. It means that even if no well is visible on the surface, there is a vein of learning you can draw up if you dig. So you tend to gain strength from study in which you hold your own questions and dig in, rather than study that is forced into you.
The Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) sits in the month pillar, so there is a high chance of meeting teachers or seniors who help you in young adulthood. The Felicity Noble (福星貴人) in the hour pillar supports a flow in which learning comes back as blessing as you age. In terms of the Twelve Life Stages (十二運星), Cap & Sash (冠帶) in young adulthood and Officialdom (建祿) in later life lend strength, whereas the middle-age position is Severance (絶), a shape in which the flow breaks once and then continues again.
Overall, your fortune in study is closer to "luck that deepens late" than "luck that flows easily." Please do not swing between joy and sorrow over your early grades8, and remember that you make your big leap precisely at the time you find your own waterway. For you, convincing yourself of what you are learning and why is far greater fuel than the hours spent at a desk.
Around the Gap wood Day Master, the fire energy of Eating God (食神) and Hurting Officer (傷官) is spread evenly across the year, month and hour pillars. Byeong fire (丙火) and Jeong fire (丁火) are the shape of a tree catching sunlight and blooming, so it is a structure in which talent shines in letting out and expressing what you have learned. Rather than learning by memorizing and taking notes, your understanding tends to become solid in the process of explaining, writing, making and showing, and teaching.
So areas such as the humanities, social sciences, journalism and publishing, education, planning, design and content production fit your grain well. It means that observing people and phenomena and organizing them in your own language suits you. Since the Useful God (用神) is Earth (土), practical fields with the character of earth, that is, ones that lead to realistic results and wealth, are also a good match. In fields such as business administration, accounting, real estate, agriculture and food, architecture and practice-oriented economics, learning easily becomes the foundation of your livelihood.
The Seven Killings (偏官) Sin metal in the day branch is a star of discipline and technique. You also have the strength to handle fields with clear structures and rules, such as engineering that handles precise tools, medicine, law, machinery and information technology. But since your Resource stars are weak, your motivation lasts longer in applied fields connected to practice than in pure academic fields where you hold on to theory alone for a long time.
Sports and the arts are also open to you. The Byeong fire of the hour pillar and the energy of Officialdom show unexpected persistence in areas learned through the body and the senses10. If it is hard to choose one, try using the question "Can I show or explain what I learned to someone?" as the standard. The field for which you can readily answer "yes" to that question is your ground.
Concentration is a power made by the Resource stars (印星) and the Officer stars (官星) together. The Resource stars are the vessel that takes in learning, and the Officer stars are the discipline that holds you in line. In your chart, Sin metal Seven Killings sits in the day branch as an Officer star, so once you make up your mind you have the drive to push yourself. On the other hand, with no visible Resource star, the foundation of stable habits that would sustain that discipline for long is on the weak side.
Once lit you become absorbed, but once the flow breaks it takes time to start the engine again. The Severance (絶) energy of the day branch shows this well. And the In wood (寅) of the hour branch and the Sin metal of the day branch strike each other in a clash (沖), so there may be days when your surroundings or your mind waver in an instant even in the middle of study. It is like a hot flame flickering in the wind.
So to hold out long, I recommend leaning on "structure" rather than "willpower." Make a fixed routine that starts at the same time and in the same place, and a method of splitting study into short chunks of 25 to 50 minutes suits you well. Continuing a little every day rather than cramming all at once builds the late-life endurance of the Officialdom energy.
A strong wood chart is also a chart with strength to spare. If you use the extra strength for light physical movement, your concentration actually improves. Try fitting activities such as walking, running or stretching in between study sessions. Also, winter, the season of water (水), watersides and a calm, quiet environment help settle your mind.
Fortune in exams is read through the Academic Star (文昌貴人) and the Study Hall Noble (學堂貴人), and the state of the Officer stars. At present, neither the Academic Star nor the Study Hall Noble shows directly in your chart. It means this is not a structure in which a star automatically opens the way for you in exams. Instead, with the Heavenly Noble in the month pillar, the chance of meeting a good adviser or referee who helps you at a decisive moment is open.
As an Officer star there is the Seven Killings in the day branch. Seven Killings is a star that turns tension into energy in exams under pressure, that is, exams with fierce competition or time limits. But rather than in a stable system of qualifications like Direct Officer (正官), you tend to stand out more in evaluations that need a feel for the field, such as practical or hands-on tests, interviews and portfolio reviewsM2.
The current flow calls for some caution. This year, 2026, Byeong O (丙午), is a year in which Eating God and Hurting Officer overlap, so your expressiveness is good but thoroughness in finishing easily wavers. 2027, Jeong Mi (丁未), has a similar grain, and from 2028, Mu Sin (戊申), to 2029, Gi Yu (己酉), is a stretch where Samjae (三災) sits, so it is safer to allow ample preparation time than to stake big exams all at once. 2030, Gyeong Sul (庚戌), is a year in which Seven Killings rises in the heavenly stem and the Twelve Life Stage is also the auspicious Nurture (養), so it is a year in which you can look forward to results in qualifications or exams.
As a practical tip, just before an exam, rather than adding new material, reviewing by explaining aloud what you have already built up is effective. The night before the exam, go to bed early as if borrowing the energy of water (水), and in the morning loosen up your body lightly to release the tension.
The Luck Pillars (大運) change the weather of learning in ten-year units. The Mu In (戊寅) Luck Pillar of your teens brings earth in as a Wealth star (財星) while the branch is the same wood, so it is a period when you meet the Useful God but realistic concerns catch your eye before immersion in study. It is much easier if there is an adult beside you to help you not miss the basics.
Gi Myo (己卯) in your twenties is a period in which earth comes as Direct Wealth (正財) and wood gains strength again. With the Useful God earth in the heavenly stem, practical learning or preparation for qualifications gains strength. But since the branch Myo wood is Rob Wealth (劫財), the energy of comparing or competing with those around you may grow, so you need to practice keeping your own pace.
Gyeong Jin (庚辰) in your thirties brings in the energy of Seven Killings and earth together, and discipline and responsibility grow. If you pursue structured study in this period, such as qualification exams, graduate school or professional courses, the results tend to remain large. A way of learning while working suits you especially well.
Sin Sa (辛巳) in your forties has Direct Officer rising in the heavenly stem, and the branch Sa fire (巳) is the Academic Star of Gap wood. The Academic Star that was not in your chart enters through a Luck Pillar, so it can be seen as the best stretch for gaining academic achievement and official recognition. I recommend producing results such as papers, books or qualifications in this period.
Im O (壬午) in your fifties is a period when Im water (壬水), an Indirect Resource (偏印), finally rises in the heavenly stem, and long-awaited water reaches the roots. But O fire (午) falls in the Void (空亡), so it may not be held as firmly as expected; please enjoy it by widening your areas of interest rather than through deep research.
Between studying alone and studying with a mentor, the latter gives you more strength. As the Heavenly Noble in the month pillar suggests, for you one good teacher tends to be a greater guide than ten books. Completely self-taught study easily loses direction given your weak Resource structure, and if you dig alone for long, the sense of disconnection that the Severance in your day branch speaks of may come.
The form that suits you best is learning close to an "apprenticeship."9 It is a way of seeing a senior's work in the actual field, trying it yourself and getting feedback. Since Hurting Officer and Eating God are abundant, your understanding deepens when you express and try what you have learned right away. If you make a habit of writing it up or explaining it to someone right after reading, the knowledge sticks.
Small study groups are good too. But keep the group small, around two to four people, and set aside time to teach each other. Classes where you listen one-way in a big lecture hall may feel like they lock up the activity of wood. Conversely, an overly competitive atmosphere can touch the pride of Gap wood and drain your energy, so it is better to study with people who recognize each other.
In terms of environment, a stable desk and a tidy space that add earth energy are the way to get the Useful God's help. And since water energy is lacking, small habits such as walking by the water or keeping warm tea nearby, and the habit of resting early at night, fill the water that is empty in your chart. Finally, each time you finish studying, write down what you learned today in three lines. It is the easiest way to build up the empty Resource stars in daily life.
The stretch to be most careful about is 2028, Mu Sin (戊申), and 2029, Gi Yu (己酉). This is when Samjae (三災) comes in and the Twelve Life Stages are Severance (絶) and Conception (胎), when energy sinks. In 2028 especially, the same Sin metal as the day branch overlaps, so the clash with the In wood of the hour branch is easily stirred again. In this period there is a chance of experiences in which your environment changes or your mind loses its bearings.
Before that, this year, 2026, and 2027 also have the inauspicious Twelve Life Stages of Death (死) and Tomb (墓). It is a period with many ideas that are hard to turn into results, so rather than hurrying big achievements, treat them as years of gathering seeds. Like a tree putting down firm roots just before winter, it is better to put your strength into the foundation rather than results.
There are three prescriptions you can use when you waver. First, do not lower the goal; shrink the unit. If two hours of study a day is hard, keeping just 20 minutes still continues the flow. Second, do not hold out alone; tell someone who could be a Noble (貴人), that is, a trusted senior or teacher, about your present state. The power of the Heavenly Noble works when you reach out first. Third, look after your body. In periods of clash and Samjae, when the rhythm of sleep and meals collapses, your whole study collapses with it.
Once you pass this stretch and enter 2030, Gyeong Sul (庚戌), Samjae leaves and the Twelve Life Stage also turns to Nurture (養). The small habits you built up in the dark stretch will sprout then. Please trust that your slow steps now are not in vain.
For you, learning is not decoration but closer to the backbone of life. Someone in whose chart Eating God and Hurting Officer are this evenly placed confirms who they are only when they bring what they have learned out into the world. Rather than stopping at accumulating knowledge, it is a structure in which the meaning of life is completed when you share it through words and writing, works and teaching.
Also, since the Resource stars do not show on the surface, you cannot receive learning as "something someone else feeds you." This is a weakness and at the same time a strength. The more experience you accumulate of setting out to find water yourself, the more your knowledge becomes an asset no one can take away. It is like a tree that has stretched its roots deep into the ground standing longer in a drought.
The Officialdom and Felicity Noble of later life show that you are someone whose learning bears fruit late. Even if the road seems to go the long way round in your youth, there is a strong chance that long study will be gathered into a single form after your forties, as the Academic Star enters in the Sin Sa Luck Pillar and Im water rises in your fifties. In the world of work too, expertise leads to trust, and the flow in which that trust connects to wealth meshes with the Useful God earth.
So please do not regard study as "a race to get ahead of others," and I recommend seeing it as a long journey of deepening at your own pace. The small repetition of reading one line today, writing one line and explaining it to one person becomes the sturdiest stem in your story. Even when hard years come, do not forget that the stem keeps growing.
Your Day Master (日干) is Gap wood (甲木), a great tree that stretches straight. The Jeong fire (丁火) of the month stem and the Byeong fire (丙火) of the hour stem set fire to the tips of its branches. It is a composition in which the tree meets sunlight and flame and gives off light outward. In Saju terms, it means Eating God (食神) and Hurting Officer (傷官) float side by side in the heavenly stems. The talent these stars give is the power to bring what is in your head out into a visible form. In planning, explaining, and making something and showing it yourself, you tend to be a step ahead of others.
The passage worth noting is the picture of Eating God Controls Killings (食神制殺), in which the Byeong fire Eating God of the hour stem melts the Sin metal (申金) Seven Killings (偏官) of the day branch. Seven Killings means pressure, discipline and a difficult opponent. Faced with such pressure, you are closer to someone who makes a way with skill and ideas than one who sinks down11. Someone whose head actually clears when deadlines pile up or a difficult client appears: so I would like to call it a problem-solving talent.
The Hurting Officer of the month stem sharpens the edge of your speech and writing. You have the sense to ask, in front of established ways, "Why does it have to be done that way?", and this is the root of originality. But to superiors it can feel like a thorn, which connects to the passage on conflict later on.
On top of this, the Travel Star (驛馬) and the Earth Star (地殺) add movement, and the Canopy Star (華蓋) gives the concentration to dig deep into one field alone. As a strong (身強) Day Master you also have ample energy, so rather than waiting for others to set the stage, you have the power to start on your own first. In sum, your talent is the power to build a structure and show it. Design, expression and problem-solving are bound into one body.
For this chart to turn talent into results, three things are needed: the power to connect to the Wealth stars (財星), depth that fills the Resource stars (印星), and patience to control your speed.
First, the Useful God (用神) is Earth (土). Earth is the Wealth star, and within the chart it is Eating and Hurting Produce Wealth (食傷生財), the road by which talent flows into money and reality. It is the shape of flames becoming ash and enriching the soil. You need the habit of not stopping at coming up with good ideas but putting a price on them, meeting customers and finishing through to delivery. A state in which the work is excellent but does not become income is the most common trap of this structure.
Second, among the elements visible on the surface there is no Water (水). For you, water corresponds to the Resource stars, that is, learning and qualifications, official backing and rest. There is hidden water in the branches, but to bring it out and use it on the surface you have to fill it consciously. If you rely on self-study and instinct, the bottom easily shows at some point. Once a year, spend time on a structured course, a qualification or mentoring. It is watering a dry tree.
Third is the Severance (絶) stage of the day branch. The middle-age position is one that breaks off once and sprouts again, so rather than going straight down one road, a flow in which you change direction sharply once midway may come naturally. So do not think that one turn is the end; it is better to practice moving the skills you have built onto a new board.
Lastly, the Officialdom (建祿) of the hour branch is a position where strength becomes firm in later life. Even if results come slowly early on, there is no reason to hurry. This chart is closer to a fruit that ripens late. Remember that the rate of someone who has held out ten years in one field is clearly different.
Looking at Korea's real-world tracks, the first priority is the self-employed and start-up type. It is a structure in which Indirect Wealth (偏財) in Sul earth (戌土), Direct Wealth (正財) in Chuk earth (丑土) and the Eating and Hurting stars connect, so strength goes to the road of opening your own game with your own skills and ideas. Second priority is the freelancer and creator type, a road led by Eating God and Hurting Officer. The civil-service and state-exam type may be at a disadvantage in a contest of sitting long, because the Resource stars are weak, and the large-corporation career-mobility type is possible given the Travel Star and Seven Killings but not, I think, your main line. Even if you belong to an organization, departments with wide discretion such as planning, new business or overseas work suit you.
The specific fields are these.
Taken together, you are less the organizational type who carries out orders and more the start-up and freelance type who starts small and grows it yourself. Running things alone or in a small team structure is more comfortable than partnershipM3, and that is how you can keep your own pace.
Your Noble sits as the Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) in the month branch, that is, the house of society. For Gap wood, the Heavenly Noble is the Ox and the Sheep. Among the seniors or bosses you first meet after entering society, there is a high chance of someone who recognizes you. In character they are weighty and realistic, the type who may say little but, once they trust you, backs you to the end. But the Sheep forms a clash (沖) with the Chuk (丑) of your month branch, so even with a deep bond there may be a moment of collision. Since they are a Noble, I advise not drifting away there but working it out through conversation.
In the hour branch there is the Felicity Noble (福星貴人). This position means juniors, students, team members and, later on, companions. It is a structure in which the people you taught or the team you built together come back as a great blessing toward later life. Being generous to juniors from now on is the surest investment.
Your luck with mentors should be seen separately from the organizational hierarchy. There is no Noble in the year and day pillars, and the Resource stars are weak on the surface, so the line in which an academic network or a direct supervisor systematically guides you may not be as thick as expected. Rather, diagonal mentors outside the official line12, such as a senior in another department, a supervisor from a former workplace or someone met at an industry gathering, open the way at the decisive moment. The Rat or the Dragon is a bond that fills the lacking water energy through Sin-Ja-Jin (申子辰), so they are good for advice on study and qualifications.
The place you meet a Noble is more often a private setting than a formal interview room. Show your skill first at gatherings, study groups and work sites. Your output serves as a letter of introduction more than your words.
In your chart, the Sin (申) of the day branch and the In (寅) of the hour branch already face each other in a clash (沖). So by zodiac sign, colleagues or bosses born in the year of the Tiger or the Monkey are counterparts to be especially careful with. It easily becomes a relationship in which opinions clash from the first meeting and each tries to take the lead. There is an upside too. If you recognize each other's skill, you can become rivals who spur each other on fastest.
The Snake is the sign that completes the In-Sa-Sin (寅巳申) Three Punishments (三刑). The work seems to fit well, but contracts or where responsibility lies easily get twisted. The Sheep is the sign that forms the Chuk-Mi (丑未) clash and the Chuk-Sul-Mi (丑戌未) Three Punishments, so the deeper the relationship, the more each side tends to get edgy. The Pig is the Sin-Hae (申亥) harm (害), so misunderstandings can arise that seem friendly on the surface but go wrong behind your back. The Horse is the Chuk-O (丑午) harm and the Rooster the Sul-Yu (戌酉) harm, so hurt feelings easily build up in close relationships. On the other hand, the Rat forms a Six Combination (六合) with Chuk (丑) and is a friendly sign.
By type, the person to be most careful with is the authoritarian boss who presses down through hierarchy. The moment the Hurting Officer of your month stem charges in with words is when you clash most with such a person. Even if you are right, rebutting head-on in a meeting easily leads to retaliation in later evaluations. At such times, convey your opinion one-on-one beforehand, and in public settings put it in the form of a question. The habit of leaving a record in documents and messages is also a shield.
In relationships with seniors and juniors too, you need to practice letting them save face. It is safer not to go deep into setups that divide people into sides, such as unions or factions within a company. Please keep a position a step apart where you are judged only by your skill.
By Luck Pillars (大運), the flow is as follows. Gi Myo (己卯) in your twenties is a luck of Direct Wealth and Rob Wealth, a period when a salary comes but you compete over money and opportunities. It is more beneficial to use it to build skills and a portfolio than for promotion.
Gyeong Jin (庚辰) in your thirties is the first big window. Gyeong metal is Seven Killings and Jin earth is Indirect Wealth, so responsibility and position come in together with real wealth. Jin (辰) meets Sin (申) and draws in water energy, partly filling the lacking Resource stars as well. It is a good time to take on a team leader or person-in-charge role or to try going independent, and with the Jin-Sul (辰戌) clash with the year branch Sul (戌), movement and changes of environment are likely to follow.
Sin Sa (辛巳) in your forties is a period when Direct Officer (正官) comes in, the best time to gain an official title and honor. But there are years in which Sa (巳) completes the In-Sa-Sin Three Punishments, so in exchange for gaining a title, your body and relationships are worn down to some extent. Read contracts carefully and keep up regular checkups.
Im O (壬午) in your fifties is a period when Indirect Resource comes, suited to study, qualifications and passing things on. O (午) is in the Void (空亡), so there may be a feeling that things are not as graspable as you expected; rather than spreading out widely, look after the substance. Gye Mi (癸未) in your sixties brings Direct Resource, Direct Wealth and the energy of a Noble together.
As for the near years, 2027 is a good year to test a revenue model, 2028 is a Samjae year for maintenance, and 2030, Gyeong Sul (庚戌), is the year Samjae leaves and things turn auspicious. I recommend preparing with 2030 as the target for any big start-up or job change.
The stretch to watch most is 2027 to 2029. 2027, Jeong Mi (丁未), is a year in which Mi (未) completes the Chuk-Sul-Mi Three Punishments and clashes with the month branch. For a Korean office worker, this easily appears as reorganization, department transfers or the breakup of a team. Friction with people over taking leave or returning from it is also common.
2028, Mu Sin (戊申), is a year when Samjae comes in and the Twelve Life Stage is Severance (絶). As the Sin of the day branch overlaps, the clash with the In of the hour branch is activated again. It is a year in which the seats of both work and home easily shake at once. At this time, missing a promotion, a disadvantage in evaluations or, at worst, your name coming up in a season of recommended resignations may occur. 2029, Gi Yu (己酉), is the middle of Samjae; Direct Officer comes, but the energy is still in decline. There may be a hollow feeling that rewards do not follow as much as you expected.
The most important attitude in this stretch is to hold out without expanding. Specifically, these are the things.
These three years are not finished time but time for maintenance. Organize your portfolio, fill the Resource stars with qualifications or learning, and firm up relationships with your diagonal mentors. The moment the flow turns auspicious in 2030, Gyeong Sul, the preparation built up now is likely to bear fruit fastest.
In the first Luck Pillar, Mu earth (戊土) enters the heavenly stem. For a Gap wood (甲木) Day Master (日干), Mu earth is Indirect Wealth (偏財). It is ground and material you can handle, so the energy of the Useful God (用神) Earth (土), which the chart needs most, shows its face in the earliest period. The branch In wood (寅木) is the same character as the In wood of the hour pillar, so the strength of Friend (比肩) doubles. In wood is also the position of Officialdom (建祿), where Gap wood puts down its roots most firmly, so in this period your stamina, stubbornness and convictions tend to firm up earlier than your peers'. It is also interesting that Mu earth is hidden inside In wood. There is a chance that interest in practical matters, money and things sprouts early.
The point to watch is the In-Sin clash (寅申沖), as In wood strikes the Sin metal (申金) of the day branch. The day branch is the innermost place in the chart, symbolizing yourself and your future household, so this clash tends to show up as moving house or changing schools, a change of environment13, or inner conflict. In wood and Sul earth (戌土) also tend to gather into fire energy. If more heat builds up in a chart that already has a lot of fire, it can spread into impatience and irritability.
In this period, activities that use the energy through the body are medicine. Physical sports such as running, ball games and hiking suit you. Also, the experience of digging into one field to the end deepens your roots. The habit of finishing one thing rather than starting many at once is good.
For reference, ages 1 to 9 are the time before the first Luck Pillar, so the Jeong fire (丁火) and Chuk earth (丑土) of the month pillar form the background. It was very likely the energy of a warm and calm household.
Mindset: Roots deep, branches slowly.
The second Luck Pillar is one of the most welcome flows in this chart. The Gi earth (己土) of the heavenly stem is Direct Wealth (正財) for Gap wood and binds to the Day Master in the Gap-Gi combination (甲己合). Gi earth has firm roots in the Chuk earth of the month branch and the Sul earth of the year branch, so this combination is likely to work in the direction of drawing in the energy of the Useful God earth. It is a picture of wealth, bonds and practical results coming close to the Day Master. In a man's chart, Direct Wealth is also the spouse star, so in this period a deep relationship or starting a household easily rises as a theme.
The branch Myo wood (卯木) is Rob Wealth (劫財) for Gap wood and at the same time Emperor (帝旺), the position where energy is at its most vigorous. Passion and drive peak, but wood energy becomes excessive. Myo wood binds with the year branch Sul earth in the Myo-Sul combination (卯戌合), and this union can lean toward the nature of fire, adding heat to the already plentiful Fire (火). With the Sin metal of the day branch it forms the awkward Resentment (怨嗔) relationship, so small misunderstandings with people close to you can pile up.
What to watch out for is the competition and leaking money that Rob Wealth brings. Please avoid as much as possible mixing money with friends or business partners, acting as guarantor and impulsive investment. The habit of setting aside a fixed share every time income arrives is the safety device of this period.
What to lean on, conversely, is the stability that the combination gives. It is a good time to form long-term relationships with trustworthy people and to build a steady income structure, whether a salary or a business. In the sense of replenishing water, it is also good to look after drinking enough fluids and resting.
Mindset: Before sharing what you gain, keep it first.
In the third Luck Pillar, Gyeong metal (庚金) comes in. For Gap wood it is Seven Killings (偏官), the axe that trims a strong Day Master and the weight of responsibility that society hands you. It is Gyeong metal rooted in Sin metal, so it carries strength, and it collides with the two Gap wood trees of the year stem and day stem in the Gap-Gyeong clash (甲庚沖). Pressure and tests come, but since the Day Master is strong, this pressure is likely to be used instead to carve the tree into useful timber14. Heavier positions at work, independence and promotion, and taking on big responsibilities become the themes.
The branch Jin earth (辰土) is the position of Indirect Wealth, and it is reassuring that the Useful God earth comes in again. But Jin earth causes the Jin-Sul clash (辰戌沖) with the year branch Sul earth. Areas that correspond to your roots, such as the family you come from, your hometown or long-standing bonds, may be shaken. Jin earth and Chuk earth also have the Break (破) relationship of breaking each other, so a base that seemed stable may be asked once to reorganize. On the other hand, Jin earth tends to join with the Sin metal of the day branch and call in water energy. It is a welcome scene in which the Water (水) missing from the chart gets some room to breathe.
Within this Luck Pillar falls the Samjae (三災) of 2028 to 2030. If the birth year is taken as 1994, this corresponds to your mid-thirtiesM4. Please do not hurry job changes, expansion or big contracts, and consider timing them after 2030.
What to lean on is discipline and system. In an environment with a frame, such as an organization or a professional qualification, pressure turns into strength. Excessive schedules and drinking sessions easily come back as fatigue in the liver and muscles, so be careful.
Mindset: The time of being trimmed is the time of becoming useful.
In the fourth Luck Pillar, Sin metal (辛金) enters the heavenly stem and becomes Direct Officer (正官). If Seven Killings trimmed you roughly, Direct Officer sets up order neatly. It binds with the Byeong fire (丙火) of the hour pillar in the Byeong-Sin combination (丙辛合), which tends to lean toward water energy, so you can also expect the effect of the missing water being filled indirectly. Honor and position, reputation and official responsibility become the themes, and it is a good period to secure a trusted place in society.
But the branch Sa fire (巳火) is the part that calls for the most care. When Sa fire comes in, the In-Sa-Sin (寅巳申) Three Punishments (三刑) are completed together with the In wood of the hour branch and the Sin metal of the day branch. Its typical forms are relationship conflicts in which kindness seems to return as enmity, legal disputes, problems with documents and contracts, and unexpected injuries or surgery. Sa fire is the Sickness (病) position for Gap wood, so you may feel your vigor bend once. With the Chuk earth of the month branch it tends to gather into metal energy, and if the Officer stars become too strong you end up driving yourself.
What is needed here is defensive discipline in daily life. Always check documents twice before signing, avoid guarantees and verbal promises, and do not put off regular health checkups. Your constitution makes the liver, gallbladder, tendons and joints prone to weakening, so keeping up stretching and sleep is good. It is safer to settle people problems through procedure and records rather than confronting them with emotion.
What to lean on is reputation. The impression of being honest and steady becomes the greatest asset in this period.
Mindset: Unhurried honesty is the fastest road.
The heavenly stem Im water (壬水) of the fifth Luck Pillar is Indirect Resource (偏印) for Gap wood. It is energy like a shower pouring down on a tree that was drying out. With the month stem Jeong fire it tends to connect into wood energy through the Jeong-Im combination (丁壬合), and with the hour stem Byeong fire it collides in the Byeong-Im clash (丙壬沖). Learning, qualifications, research and inner transitions rise as themes, while the hour pillar that symbolizes the latter half of life is shaken, so changes of direction in work and in matters of children easily occur. There is also the shape of Overturned Meal (倒食), in which Im water suppresses the Eating God (食神) of Byeong fire and expressiveness shrinks, so you should not let what you want to say pile up inside.
The branch O fire (午火) is the position of Hurting Officer (傷官), with Jeong fire hidden in it. When O fire comes into a chart that already has In wood and Sul earth, the In-O-Sul (寅午戌) Three Harmony completes a Fire frame (火局). Fire rises greatly and has the merit of draining the Day Master's energy refreshingly, but in a chart with no water, the dry heat (燥熱) becomes severe. O fire is also the Void (空亡) of this chart, so as the empty place is filled, both expectation and disappointment may grow. For Gap wood it is the Death (死) position, so physical strength comes down slowly.
You should pay attention to the chest and eyes, blood pressure and insomnia. Reduce work and deliberately make time to rest by the water or in the woods. Your words easily become sharp, so bring out important words only after letting them sit for a day.
What to lean on is expertise and teaching. If you turn long-accumulated experience into writing, lectures or training juniors, the fire energy is used warmly.
Mindset: Do not try to put out the fire; keep it in a brazier.
In the sixth Luck Pillar, the heavenly stem Gye water (癸水) is Direct Resource (正印). It is a gentle energy of care like a stream wetting young stems, bringing peace of mind, scholarship, study and the place of a respected elder. But it forms the Jeong-Gye clash (丁癸沖) with the month stem Jeong fire, so emotional ups and downs like fire and water colliding, or a tug-of-war between work and health, may occur.
The branch Mi earth (未土) is the position of Direct Wealth, and the Useful God earth comes in in the form of real estate, assets and a stable base. But in this period, structures that call for caution overlap. Mi earth meets the month branch Chuk earth and causes the Chuk-Mi clash (丑未沖), and together with the year branch Sul earth forms the Chuk-Sul-Mi (丑戌未) Three Punishments. On top of that, Mi earth together with O fire is the Void of this chart. It means property disputes, misunderstandings within the family, and discomfort in the digestive organs, spleen, stomach and joints may suddenly come up. For Gap wood, Mi earth is the Tomb (墓) position, so energy is stored inward. It is a flow suited to putting things in order rather than overextending.
The wisest prescription is putting property and health in order. Settle inheritance, gifts and real estate matters in documents in advance. Prefer assets with stable cash flow over big investments, eat regular meals and keep warm food close. If there are long-held feelings within the family, I advise reaching out first in this period.
What to lean on is the learning and reflection that Direct Resource gives. Reading, keeping records and hobby study protect the mind.
Mindset: The hand that gathers slowly, the hand that lets go lightly.
The seventh Luck Pillar is a period of Fu Yin (伏吟), in which Gap Sin, identical to the day pillar, comes again. The heavenly stem Gap wood is Friend, so the same energy as yourself stands beside you, and the branch Sin metal is Seven Killings, so the Sin metal of the day branch overlaps once more. Fu Yin is often read as a time when the same themes repeat and past matters come back to mind. Bonds or problems folded away long ago, or health stories, may take the stage once more.
In this chart, the Sin metal of the day branch is the Severance (絶) position. The position where energy is said to be most cut off among the Twelve Life Stages (十二運星) overlaps, so please do not take the decline in physical strength and changes of environment lightly. The In-Sin clash with the hour branch In wood is also touched again, so moving, hospitalization and changes of residence easily occur. Since the chart holds the In-Sa-Sin Three Punishments structure, care is needed for falls, fractures and minor ailments of the respiratory organs and large intestine.
But Severance is an end and also a place where a new beginning sprouts. If you lower your speed and reorganize your life simply rather than forcing yourself to hold out, this period can instead be light and free. Friend comes to your side, so old friends, siblings and colleagues become a great strength. Do not try to bear everything alone; share your daily routine with someone you trust.
I recommend fixing the floors and stairs in your home, keeping up regular checkups, and making warm water and light walks part of daily life. An hour of walking in the morning sun is medicine. If there is homework of the heart left, settle it in words in this period.
Mindset: On the road that came back, greet once more.
The last Luck Pillar is Eul wood (乙木) and Yu metal (酉金). Eul wood is Rob Wealth for Gap wood, the energy of a companion who stays flexibly beside you like a wildflower blooming in a crack in the rock. Yu metal is Direct Officer, the order and rules and the frame that holds up the body, but meeting the year branch Sul earth and the day branch Sin metal it forms the Sin-Yu-Sul (申酉戌) directional combination (方合) of metal. As metal energy gathers greatly, the force pressing on the Day Master grows stronger, so fatigue and tension in the body build up more easily than before. With the month branch Chuk earth too, it tends to gather into metal energy.
But Yu metal is also the Conception (胎) position for Gap wood. It is the threshold where energy sprouts again, so it can be read as a symbol of revival and cycle. If you live lightly while minding the health of the respiratory organs and lungs, skin and bones, a peaceful old age is likely to open. Under the influence of Rob Wealth, you may come to divide property with people close to you, so settling it in advance gives peace of mind.
What suits this period is putting things in order and passing them on. Handing the experience, things and memories you have accumulated to the next generation fits the flow of the chart well. Time spent continuing warm conversations beside people is the best tonic.
By season, the dryness of autumn and winter easily burdens the body, so look carefully after humidity and warmth. Just as dry leaves return to the ground and become compost for the next spring, putting things in order in this period is not loneliness but part of a cycle.
Mindset: The more lightly you let go, the longer it remains.
The Luck Pillars of this chart start powerfully from the Officialdom of In wood and the Emperor of Myo wood, gradually sink, and then sprout again in the Conception of Yu metal, drawing a curve. The brightest period is the Gi Myo Luck Pillar, your twenties15. The Useful God earth combines with the Day Master as Direct Wealth and energy is at its most vigorous, so it is the best time to sow the seeds of bonds and wealth. The period that needs the most careful attention is the Sin Sa Luck Pillar, your forties. The In-Sa-Sin Three Punishments are completed, so documents, health and people problems call for the most caution, and it overlaps with the time when work is heaviest. After that, the Gye Mi and Gap Sin Luck Pillars also overlap with positions of Three Punishments, clash and Severance, so the habit of looking after the body is important, but by then the pressure of work lessens and it can be handled well enough through putting things in order and rest. I recommend reading the 2028–2030 Samjae met within the Gyeong Jin Luck Pillar as a stretch for building substance rather than expanding. The missing water energy is filled bit by bit through the combination of Jin earth, the Byeong-Sin combination, and the Luck Pillars of Im water and Gye water. So after middle age, a flow is expected in which the heat cools once and room opens up. Luck Pillars are only the weather; what clothes to wear and which road to walk is your choice.
The Day Master (日干) Gap wood (甲木) is a great tree that stretches straight. With as many as three shares of Wood (木) in the chart, the roots are deep and the trunk is on the sturdy side. So even when shaken you do not snap easily, and you tend to look composed on the outside. But water (水) is not visible on the surface of the chart. It is like a forest that has had no rain for a long time, so in proportion to your sturdiness, the inside dries out easily. This is the first key to reading your inner weather.
The Jeong fire (丁火) of the month pillar and the Byeong fire (丙火) of the hour pillar are Hurting Officer (傷官) and Eating God (食神). Like flames burning above a tree, thoughts and expression often boil up inside. You are someone with a lot you want to say, a lot you want to make and a lot you want to examine. When the fire burns well it lights things up brightly, but when the firewood runs low you may suddenly feel hollow. If you have ever felt, after being deeply absorbed, that one day all your drive seemed to go out, it is likely because of this structure.
The Sin metal (申金) of the day branch sits in Severance (絶) among the Twelve Life Stages. It is often read as inauspicious, but I see it as "a place that empties once and starts again." It means that even if a moment comes around middle age when your sense of stability is shaken, it may be not an end but a signal to change direction. With the Cap & Sash (冠帶) of young adulthood and the Officialdom (建祿) of later life holding auspicious positions, the flow of life as a whole is one in which the floor grows firmer toward the latter half.
To protect your sense of stability, it is better to deliberately make time to empty out. If you set aside 30 minutes a day in which you produce nothing, moisture circulates in the dry forest. The better things are going, the more you should set your rest time first.
In this chart, the star that opens the door to spirituality is the Canopy Star (華蓋殺) of the year pillar. The Canopy Star is a star like a study where a lamp is kept burning alone, and it speaks of a temperament drawn to religion, philosophy and art16. With Eating God and Hurting Officer here as well, you are closer to an intellectual, inquiring spirituality that opens its heart only after examining "why is it so" and being convinced, rather than a faith that follows blindly.
So rather than a devotional type that accepts doctrine one-way, traditions that read, discuss and interpret scripture tend to suit you. Zen (禪) and doctrinal study in Buddhism, Confucian self-cultivation (修身), or in Christianity, contemplation and theological inquiry fit. Conversely, in communities that demand strong hierarchy and absolute obedience, the energy of Hurting Officer pushes back and it may be hard to stay long.
There is a structure in which the day branch and the hour branch strike each other (the In-Sin clash, 寅申沖), so there is also a chance that the form of your faith changes once in the middle of life. It is good not to see this only as wavering but to accept it as a node of growth. It is also common to leave the path you first encountered and come back in a different way.
One more thing: the Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) of the month pillar means the bond of meeting a good teacher or senior in hard times. On the spiritual path too, meeting one person, a trustworthy guide, rather than books can become a great turning point. Rather than entering one tradition right away, try a few lightly and choose the place where your heart stays long.
Gap wood is a tree that grows while moving, so you recharge better by resting while using your body than by lying still. Among the five elements Water (水) is empty, so hobbies close to water are especially good. Spending time by the water, such as swimming, kayaking, valley trekking or fishing, has the effect of dew falling on a dry forest.
The clash between the day branch and the hour branch is also the energy of the Travel Star (驛馬). Activities of walking and setting off suit you better than staying in one place for long. Weekend day trips, cycling, hiking and walking in new neighborhoods are good. Hobbies that walk only the same road can quickly become boring, so the trick is to change the course often.
On the side of using your head, the power of Eating God helps. Hobbies that use the hands and senses together, such as cooking, brewing coffee and steeping tea, suit you. Eating God is the star that governs the pleasure of eating and making, so activities in which you handle ingredients and see the result in front of you settle the mind. Pottery, gardening and growing potted plants, which bring out the energy of the Useful God (用神) Earth (土), are also good choices. Handling soil gives this chart the most direct balance.
What is better avoided is screen-centered hobbies that run late into the night. The fire energy is already sufficient, and adding stimulation makes sleep shallow and increases dryness the next day. When choosing a hobby, use "Does my body feel light afterward, or has only my head heated up?" as the standard.
The most prominent talent in this chart is speech and writingM5. Hurting Officer gives sharp observation and witty expression, and Eating God gives the power to keep letting it out steadily. When the two stars are together, originality tends to emerge in language work such as writing, lecturing, planning, copywriting and essays. The power to ask "but why?" of what others pass over as obvious becomes the seed of a work.
The spark of Hurting Officer shines when it is used to break existing frames17. Talent opens up in work that mixes genres or twists forms18, in satire or criticism, and in creating new formats. Fields where experiment is allowed suit you better than orthodox fields with strict rules.
The Byeong fire of the hour pillar is close to a bright sun, showing an aptitude for expression that explains and conveys in front of the public, that is, lectures, presentations, video and performance19. Even if you are shy at first, you may be the type who comes alive on stage once you have done it a few times20. In music, writing your own lyrics or riding a rhythm suits you; in the visual arts, drawing with bold lines or photography.
But Hurting Officer easily gets an edge, so if a work stays only at sharpness, it wears people out. If you mix in the energy of earth (土), that is, warm concreteness and a feel for everyday life, the finish improves. I recommend the habit of writing the first draft without hesitation and revising calmly the next day. Think of it as writing with the flame and refining with the earth.
The growth this chart wants most over a lifetime is "adding roots and water to the power to reach out." Wood is strong and water is empty, so the drive is sufficient, but it is a structure in which the power of the Resource stars (印星), which fill you through learning and rest, is weak. So the ability to stop, learn and digest, rather than to start things, becomes a lifelong task.
The Useful God earth (土) is the Wealth star (財星), that is, the power to firm up reality. The more you grow in the direction of turning ideas into concrete results and a stable base, the more at ease the chart becomes. Training such as writing your thoughts in a notebook, putting dates on plans and connecting them to small income or results helps greatly. Rather than spreading out big all at once, a way of firming things up little by little, like piling up soil, suits you.
The flow of the Luck Pillars (大運) backs this up too. Your twenties and thirties bring earth through the Mu In (戊寅) and Gi Myo (己卯) lucks, opening chances to firm up a real base, and after passing Gyeong Jin (庚辰) and Sin Sa (辛巳), water energy comes in with the Im O (壬午) luck in your fifties and the Gye Mi (癸未) luck in your sixties. In these periods study, reflection and deep rest become the center of life, and spiritual and mental depth is likely to open in the latter half.
The coming Samjae (三災) stretch of 2028 to 2030 is not a time to be frightened of but a good period to slow down and put things in order. Postpone big expansions and spend your time on health checks, tidying relationships and learning. If you get through this period well, the stability after 2030 will be firmer. Think of now as the time to put down roots.
The most distinct tension is the clash (沖) between the Sin metal (申) of the day branch and the In wood (寅) of the hour branch. For Gap wood, Sin metal is the energy of Seven Killings (偏官) coming at you like an axe, and In wood is your own root. When they collide, "what I want to do" and "the pressure of what I must do" face off inside one person. A pattern may repeat in which your drive runs ahead, you push yourself hard, and afterward you feel hollow.
The Severance (絶) in the day branch belongs to the same context. When a relationship or work is going at its best, a sense of disconnection, "Is this right?", tends to rise out of nowhere. This is not weakness but a sign of a keen sense for new starts. But if you follow that impulse and suddenly overturn the board, regret may remain.
The Sul (戌) of the year branch and the Chuk (丑) of the month branch can create the energy of punishment (刑) between them, so deep-rooted stubbornness or long-held hurt feelings may harden inside. Heaven Net (天羅) hints that there are moments when the mind feels stifled as if caught in a net, and the sharp words of Hurting Officer may often be aimed first at people close to you.
There are three directions for healing. First, make big decisions not when emotions are high but after sleeping on them. Second, when uncomfortable feelings arise, write them down before pouring them out in words. Third, build the habit of opening your heart to one trustworthy person. The bond of the Heavenly Noble helps at such times. The moment you speak, one layer of the net comes loose.
In this chart, practice that mixes in movement lasts longer than still meditation. It is a structure with a lot of fire and wood, so many people find their thoughts become more active when they sit still. Ways of settling the mind while using the body, such as walking meditation, tai chi, flowing yoga sequences and stretching with breathing, are good. Do not try to sit still for 30 minutes from the start; begin with five minutes of breathing and gradually increase.
Nature is the best place, and within it, places near water are ideal. A morning walk along a river or lake, or the sound of rain heard by the window on a rainy day, fills the empty energy of Water (水). If you live in a city, try making a shower, a foot bath or a cup of warm tea into a ritual. Small water habits are a bigger comfort to a dry forest than you might think.
The balance between solitary practice and groups is also important. Usually time alone sorts out your mind, but because of your Travel Star and Eating God temperament, if you isolate yourself too much your thoughts go round in circles instead. Doing it together in a small group or class about once a week makes it easier to keep going.
Sleep and meals are also the core of self-care. Since fire energy is strong, cut down on late-night stimulation, spicy food and excess caffeine, and look after meals with earth energy, such as grains, root vegetables and warm soups. In the evening, turn off screens early, and if you build the habit of briefly summing up the day in writing, your writing talent and your rest are both filled. A day that opens the body in the morning and adds moisture in the evening is the best fit for this chart.
If this chart were read as a book, it would be a story of growth in which a great tree passes through the barren ground of childhood, slowly puts down roots, is shaken hard once and then goes looking for deeper water. The Day Master (日干) is Gap wood (甲木). It is a great tree that grows straight, and with as many as three Woods (木) gathered in the chart, the strength to stand on its own is clear. With the Byeong fire (丙火) of the hour stem and the Jeong fire (丁火) of the month stem placed over the Chuk earth (丑土) of the month branch, you easily come across as warm and able to express yourself.
In the middle of this book, though, there is a big scene. It is the In-Sin clash (寅申沖), in which the Sin metal (申金) of the day branch and the In wood (寅木) of the hour branch strike each other. It is the image of an axe and a tree meeting in one place, so moments may come now and then when the direction you have set your mind on and reality diverge. But an axe both fells a tree and trims it into something useful. In this chart Sin metal is Seven Killings (偏官), so it is both the pressure that drives you and the hand that grows you into timber.
The empty Water (水) is a hidden foreshadowing in this book. With too little water to wet your roots, you may often have felt you were holding out alone on dry ground. So the latter half of the story flows into "the process of meeting water." The Useful God (用神) is Earth (土). Soil that holds scattering strength, that is, the frame of reality and a trustworthy foundation, is your key. This book is not a tragedy but the story of a person brimming with strength looking for a vessel to hold it.
Among the four periods, the light is brightest in later life (hour branch) and young adulthood (month branch). The In wood of later life is Officialdom (建祿). For Gap wood, In wood is its own place and the seat of Pay (祿), so the center of body and mind tends to grow firmer with age. The Felicity Noble (福星貴人) is there as well, so old age is likely to bring generosity and ease rather than loneliness. The Cap & Sash (冠帶) of young adulthood is the energy of the time when you put on your first cap and step into society. With the Heavenly Noble (天乙貴人) in the month branch Chuk earth, help from elders, teachers and superiors tends to follow in this period.
The Nurture (養) of childhood is an auspicious position. It is the energy of growing up under care, as in a mother's arms, so the foundation of your childhood may have been warmer than it appeared. But the year branch Sul earth (戌土) and the month branch Chuk earth form a punishment (刑) with each other, so the possibility is also open that there was unspoken tension within the family or surroundings.
The most demanding time is middle age (day branch). Severance (絶) is read as the most inauspicious position, but in practice it is closer to a point where the old way is cut off once and you have to start anew. It is the image of a young stem catching the wind before it has gripped the ground. With the In-Sin clash on top of this, a sharp change of direction in work or relationships may occur.
The prescription is simple. In middle age, do not hurry big decisions, and build the habit of carrying on what you have decided for at least three years. Severance is not an end but the place of returning to seed.
The first is independence and making your own way (立身). A chart with strong wood and a sturdy Day Master finds it hard to stay long in someone else's shade. You are someone who wants to stand under your own name. When this value grows healthily it becomes the responsibility of leading others; when it goes too far it becomes stubbornness.
The second is depth, that is, inner recharging. A chart with empty Water (水) easily uses a lot of energy outward but lacks time to fill the inside. So life as a whole leans more and more toward "the values of water" such as study, reflection, rest and lasting relationships. The Im water (壬水) Luck Pillar arriving in your fifties shows that direction. It is a structure in which a dry tree finally meets rain.
The third is stability, that is, building trust. Because the Useful God is earth, in the end you want a frame you can trust. Things like trustworthy colleagues, sustainable income and a home to return to22. Even if your heart is drawn to freedom and change in your younger days, the place where you feel at ease at the end of it is likely to be on firm ground.
The three values pull with different forces. Independence wants to move forward, depth wants to stop and stay, and stability wants to build up. The process of balancing them becomes the rhythm of life. If you separate seasons for running and seasons for resting even within one year, the three values grow together without fighting each other.
When the chart is read not as a verdict of fortune and misfortune but as a mirror for 回光返照, turning the light back inward to reflect on yourself, the big task you have to work out in this life appears to run in two strands.
The first is handling the clash (沖). The In-Sin clash of the day branch and hour branch is a structure in which "what I want" and "what reality demands" face off within one body. Do not try to get rid of it; try to make them talk to each other. The habit of writing a single line each time a decision wavers helps. In wood is the mind that wants to go forward and Sin metal the mind that wants to refine, and both are part of you. The flow of Eating God and Hurting Officer this year and next makes expression rich, so in proportion you need to be careful of slips of the tongue and hasty declarations. 2028, the Mu Sin (戊申) year, is a year when Samjae (三災) comes in and Sin metal overlaps. I recommend using it as a year to look after body and relationships rather than for a big job change or investment. In 2029 Direct Wealth and Direct Officer come in and order begins to settle, and in 2030 the flow turns auspicious.
The second is filling the empty element (五行) of water yourself. Having no water does not mean you were not born with wisdom or the flow of feeling; it means you have to cultivate them consciously. Books, writing, meditation, walks and rest by the water are all ways.
The Void (空亡) branches O (午) and Mi (未) are not in this natal chart, but they fall on the branches of the Luck Pillars of your fifties and sixties. It can be read as a hint that in the latter half, letting go rather than trying to grasp actually makes you richer. This is the inner study that continues for a long time.
The gifts this chart has given can first be found in the auspicious stars (吉星). The Heavenly Noble in the month branch Chuk earth is a sign that a Noble who gives great help easily appears in young adulthood and in the period of securing a place in society. Do not take bonds with superiors or teachers lightly. The Felicity Noble in the hour branch In wood is a star that supports blessings in later life and stability in food, clothing and shelter. It means there is a blessing that blooms late.
There is also Pay-and-Horse (祿馬). The In wood of the hour branch is the Pay of Gap wood, and the Sin metal of the day branch is the Travel Star (驛馬) counted from the year branch Sul earth. With Pay and Horse both in one chart, it is a structure in which wealth and opportunity arise where there is movement21. But since the two strike each other in a clash, it is important to gather the movement in one direction so it does not scatter. The Canopy Star (華蓋) opens as a talent for deep absorption, as in art, religion and scholarship. With Byeong fire (丙火) and Jeong fire (丁火) in the natal chart, there is light in speech and expression, so turning this temperament into work becomes a path.
When it comes to the Three Wonders (三奇), I have to be honest. This chart has the two energies Byeong and Jeong, but Eul (乙) is missing, so it is not complete Three Wonders. The Heaven Virtue and Taeeul patterns are not confirmed in this chart either. Still, the presence of the Heavenly Noble and the clarity of the Useful God are reliable enough as the backbone of the gift.
The greatest gift is the Luck Pillars of the Useful God earth. The Mu In (戊寅) and Gi Myo (己卯) Luck Pillars of your teens and twenties have earth in the heavenly stems, so they were a time when you could firm up learning and a foundation from early on. If they have already passed or are passing now, what you built in that period is your capital today.
I say this sitting calmly across from you. Laying your flow over the Korean life cycle, it looks like this. The Gi Myo Luck Pillar of your twenties is the time of making your own way (立身), a period of building a foundation with the help of earth. The Gyeong Jin (庚辰) Luck Pillar of your thirties is the time when metal comes in and tests your independence. Even under pressure, remember that it is the hand trimming you into timber. The Sin Sa (辛巳) Luck Pillar of your forties is the time of stability, a period of setting up your position and putting the order of work in place. The Im O (壬午) Luck Pillar of your fifties is the period of turning the light back (回光), when the water you used to borrow finally flows in. The Gye Mi (癸未) Luck Pillar of your sixties is the time of gathering in, a period when water and earth blend and you take in what you have passed through and stay at ease.
In life there will be times when your heart collides and your decisions waver. At such times, do not blame yourself. It is only the sound of two forces meeting. Walk slowly, stay beside trustworthy people, and now and then sit by the water and rest. You are a tree that can grow far longer and far deeper than you think.
Saju does not decide fate; it is a map for living well.
The numbers match the badges in the text above. The upper line is what the reading said; the lower line is the documented fact.
Showing only the hits would make this an advertisement, not evidence. Below are passages where the same reading was plainly wrong. In the text they are not hazed; they are marked with a dotted line.
This is a post-hoc comparison. We picked the passages that fit a career we already know. It does not mean that someone handed these eight characters in 1935 could have said he would put a blues and a bluegrass song on one single.
Passages that miss are marked too. They are collected at the end of section 04 and left legible in the text with a dotted line. The claims that he was a morning person, that he did well in auditions, and that speech and writing were his greatest talent all contradict the record. The text also still contains statements unrelated to his life, such as ones about Korean workplaces or real estate.
Charts with the same structure are common. A strong Gap wood chart with Eating God and Hurting Officer in the heavenly stems is not rare, and most people who have one never became singers.
Health, death, private life and family relationships are not covered. The passages in the text on marriage, family, health, drugs and death carry no match marks. Because the engine did not know the year, it treats 2026–2030 as years to come and describes the Luck Pillars after his forties at length; his public career ended in 1977, so those passages were not compared. Using a real person's chart to discuss illness or death has neither a basis nor any decency.
His birth time comes down in two versions. The birth certificate and the sources that copy it give 04:35 (Astro-Databank Rodden AA). Astro-Databank also records that he told an astrologer in 1972 that he was born at 3:30 AM. This report follows the birth certificate. As section 02 shows, 3:30 gives the same hour pillar, 丙寅, so the difference does not affect the eight characters or the reading.
What can be reproduced is the calculation. The time correction, the stems and branches, the Luck Pillar ages and the conditions under which each symbolic star applies: anyone using the same inputs gets the same results. What comes after that is interpretation.
The text above was not written specially for this page. It is exactly what Orienteller's in-depth reading produced when given one chart. The same engine takes a date, time and place of birth and writes to the same depth.
Before that, it gets the time right. It corrects for daylight saving time, longitude and the equation of time, judges the 節氣 (solar terms) in a separate frame, and tells you how many minutes remain to the nearest double-hour boundary. If your birth time comes down in two versions, you can check first whether both land in the same hour pillar.

Saju is not a tool that tells a fixed future. It is an old language for reading the arrangement of a person's temperament and the grain of the times they move through. Orienteller's work is to translate that language accurately.
